1. Government appoints Rajesh Kumar Srivastava as interim chairman of ONGC
- Rajesh Kumar Srivastava, who is the senior-most director on the ONGC board, has been given additional charge of chairman and managing director after current acting head Alka Mittal superannuated.
2. Gautam Adani becomes world’s third-richest person, first Asian to do so
- Gautam Adani became the first Asian to reach the top 3 richest list on Bloomberg Billionaire’s Index.
- At a total wealth of $137 billion, Adani surpassed Louis Vuitton chief Bernard Arnault to become the third richest person in the world.
- Elon Musk retained the top spot with his net-worth touching $251.4 billion, followed by Jeff Bezos ($153.4 Billion).
3. National Nutrition Week 2022: 1st to 7th September
- Each year, India celebrates National Nutrition Week (NNW) from September 1 to September 7.
- Since 1982, the Indian government has been conducting National Nutrition Week to educate citizens about nutrition and urge them to lead healthy and sustainable lifestyles.
- The theme for this year is ‘Celebrate a World of Flavors’.
- NNW was first observed in March 1975 by the American Dietetic Association.
4. Mikhail Gorbachev, reformer who changed Russia and the world, dies at 91
- Mikhail Gorbachev, the former Soviet leader who brought the Cold War to a peaceful end, has died aged 91.
- Mr Gorbachev took power in 1985 and introduced reforms, as well as opening up the Soviet Union to the world.
- But he was unable to prevent the slow collapse of the union.
- He was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1990.
5. WCD celebrating the 5th Rashtriya Poshan Maah 2022 across the nation from Sep 1 to 30th September
- The Ministry of Women and Child Development is celebrating the 5th Rashtriya Poshan Maah 2022 from 1st to 30th September 2022.
- This year, the objective is to trigger Poshan Maah through Gram Panchayats as Poshan Panchayats with key focus on “Mahila aur Swasthya ” and “Bacha aur Shiksha ”.
- In the 5th Rashtriya Poshan Maah the aim is to convert Jan Andolan into Jan Bhagidari.
6. Cabinet approves signing an MoU between India & Govt of Nepal on biodiversity conservation
- The Union Cabinet has approved the proposal of the Environment, Forest, and Climate Change Ministry for signing an MoU with the Government of Nepal on biodiversity conservation.
- It is aimed at strengthening and enhancing coordination and cooperation in the field of forests, wildlife, environment, biodiversity conservation, and climate change.
7. NHPC ties up with PTC India for sale of power from upcoming Nepal projects
- State-run NHPC has signed an MoU with power trading major PTC India Ltd for sale of power from upcoming the West Seti and Seti River-6 hydro power projects in Nepal.
- PTC shall purchase the contracted capacity from NHPC from the date of commercial operation of the projects for onward sale to the state utilities, discoms and bulk customers in India and neighbouring countries.
8. Indian Railways set up ‘Meghdoot’ machines at Mumbai stations
- Indian Railways have set up ‘Meghdoot’ machines at Dadar, Thane and other stations of Mumbai Division.
- Maithri Aquatech’s MEGHDOOT – AWG(Atmospheric Water Generator) uses innovative technology to convert water vapour in the air into fresh and clean drinking water.
- Meghdoot machines are research-driven and it does not need source water.
9. IndiGo joins WEF’s sustainable initiative
- The country’s largest carrier IndiGo has joined a sustainable initiative spearheaded by the World Economic Forum (WEF).
- The airline has become a signatory to the Clear Skies for Tomorrow, India Coalition campaign.
- It will help in achieving a significant scale for SAF (Sustainable Aviation Fuel).
- Clean Skies for Tomorrow was launched in January 2019.
10. ICICI Bank partners with NPCI to launch RuPay credit cards called “ICICI Bank Coral RuPay Credit Card”
- ICICI Bank announced its partnership with National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) to launch a range of credit cards on RuPay, the indigenous payments network.
- To begin with, the ICICI Bank RuPay Credit Card is available in the Coral variant of the Bank’s Gemstone series, which will be followed by Ruby and Sapphire variants soon.

- Model Divita Rai from Karnataka was named the winner of LIVA Miss Diva Universe 2022 According to a press release, Rai will represent India at the global pageant of Miss Universe.
- Telangana’s Pragnya Ayyagari was crowned LIVA Miss Diva Supranational 2022 and she will be India’s face at the international Miss Supranational pageant.

13. Railways tops CVC list for ignoring advice to punish corrupt officers
- The Railways Ministry has topped the list of government departments that did not adhere to Central Vigilance Commission’s (CVC) advice against corrupt officials and concluded cases as per its own disciplinary procedures, according to the CVC’s latest annual report.
- Annual report for 2021 found 55 such instances across government departments, 11 of them in Railways.

- He was also chairman of the Commission for Agricultural Costs & Prices (CACP) in the first Atal Bihari Vajpayee-led NDA government, authored the report of the High Level Committee on Long Term Grain Policy.
15. RBI launches September 2022 round of inflation expectations survey of households
- The survey aims at capturing subjective assessments on price movements and inflation, based on their individual consumption baskets, across 19 cities, viz, Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Chandigarh, Chennai, Delhi, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Jammu, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, Nagpur, Patna, Raipur, Ranchi and Thiruvananthapuram.
- M/s Hansa Research Group Pvt. Ltd., Mumbai has been engaged to conduct the survey.
16. Nagesh Singh appointed India’s next ambassador to Kingdom of Thailand
- Nagesh Singh, presently Joint Secretary in the Ministry of External Affairs, has been appointed as India’s next ambassador to Thailand.
- Singh will be replacing ambassador Suchitra Durai and is expected to take up the assignment shortly.

18. Amlan Borgohain breaks 100m national record at All India Railway C’ships
- Amlan Borgohain, who holds the 200m national record, has now added the 100m record to his name.
- The 24-year-old from Assam clocked 10.25s (wind speed +1.8, legal) to break the six-year-old national record of Amiya Kumar Mallick (10.26s) at the 87th all-India inter-Railway athletics championships in Rae Bareli, Uttar Pradesh.
19. World’s largest religious monument to open in India—with the help of Ford heir
- Set to be inaugurated in 2024, Temple of Vedic Planetarium in West Bengal’s Mayapur will replace Cambodia’s 12th-century built Angkor Wat complex as the world’s largest religious structure.
