1. INS Ajay of Indian Navy decommissioned on 19th september 2022, after 32 years of Illustrious service

  • The ceremony was conducted at Naval Dockyard, Mumbai in the traditional manner, wherein the national flag, naval ensign and the decommissioning pennant of the ship were lowered for the last time at sunset, signifying the end of the ship’s commissioned service
  • INS Ajay was commissioned on January 24, 1990 at Poti, Georgia in the erstwhile USSR.

2. Shri Parshottam Rupala holds bilateral meeting with New Zealand Minister of Trade and Export and Agriculture

  • Union Minister of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Shri Parshottam Rupala held a bilateral meeting with New Zealand Minister of Trade and Export and Agriculture, H.E Mr. Damien O’connor.
  • The two sides discussed the potential bilateral cooperation to strengthen Foot and Mouth Disease capability to advance India’s and New Zealand’s primary sectors.

3. India, Egypt sign MoU to bolster defence cooperation across all sectors of mutual interest

  • Shri Rajnath Singh invited his Egyptian counterpart to the India-Africa Defence Dialogue and Indian Ocean Region (IOR) Defence Ministers’ Conclave, scheduled to be held as part of the 12th DefExpo in Gandhinagar, Gujarat between October 18-22, 2022.
  • The two Ministers also agreed to identify proposals for expanding cooperation between the defence industries of India and Egypt.

5. NCLT approves merger of Exide Life with HDFC Life, holds 4.1% stake HDFC

  • The National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) approved the merger of Exide Life Insurance with HDFC Life Insurance.
  • The Scheme of Amalgamation was approved by the Mumbai bench of NCLT.
  • The Scheme of Amalgamation is subject to the final approval of the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI).

6. HDFC Bank launches ‘Aao Bus Karein’ campaign to promote greener commuting habits

  • Through this campaign, HDFC Bank will run 4 Electric Vehicle AC buses across Mumbai to encourage commuters to leave their cars at home in favour of public transport.
  • The E-buses will run on specific routes to connect commuters to key corporate parks and will ply day-long to ensure ease of mobility and convenience for commuters.
  • HDFC Bank announced a tie-up with Mumbai’s BEST Bus Service to launch this initiative.

7. Bengaluru FC win maiden Durand Cup title, beat Mumbai City FC 3-1 in final

  • A goal each from young N. Sivasakthi and seasoned Alan Costa in the first and second half respectively set up the victory for Bengaluru FC, which beat its Indian Super League (ISL) rival Mumbai City FC 2-1 in the final of the 131st Durand Cup to claim its maiden crown in the historic competition.

9. India among few countries in the world where forest cover is consistently increasing

  • The government has said that the coverage of Protected Areas, which was 4.90 percent of the country’s geographical area in 2014 has now increased to 5.03 percent.
  • This includes an increase in Protected Areas in the country from 740 with an area of over one lakh 61 thousand square kilometers in 2014 to 981 with an area of over one lakh 71 thousand square kilometers at present.

10. USAID and UNICEF launches Doordarshan and YouTube series titled ‘Door Se Namaste’ in New Delhi

  • The US Agency for International Development (USAID) and United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) today launched the Doordarshan and YouTube series titled Door Se Namaste at a function held in New Delhi.
  • Door Se Namaste is a new television series which promotes healthy behaviours in a post-pandemic world.

11. India ranks fourth on Global Crypto Adoption Index, traders switch to overseas exchanges

  • As India’s crypto markets fell from second to fourth spot in the 2022 Global Crypto Adoption Index, crypto analysis firm Chainalysis said in a report.
  • The index tracks countries adopting cryptocurrencies or investing in digital assets.
  • The study finds that India’s crypto adoption at the grassroots level was higher than the US, ranked fifth on the index.

12. Angola’s Joao Lourenco takes oath of office for second term as president

  • The National Electoral Commission announced Joao Lourenco as the President of Angola.
  • Lourenco, 68, was sworn in alongside Esperanca da Costa, the nation’s first female vice president, at Praca de Republica square in the capital, Luanda.
  • President Joao Lourenco is a member of the Popular Movement for the Liberation of Angola (MPLA).

13. SBI acquires 100 percent stake in SBI Global Factors

  • State Bank of India (SBI) said SBI Global Factors Ltd (SBIGFL) has become its 100 percent subsidiary as the country’s biggest lender has acquired about 14 per cent stake from other shareholders.
  • SBI has acquired 13.82 per cent equity of existing shareholders.
