1. Danish Open swimming: Sajan Prakash wins gold, Vedaant Madhavan bags silver

  • Top Indian swimmer Sajan Prakash won the men’s 200m butterfly gold and Vedaant Madhavan bagged silver medal in the men’s 1500m freestyle event at the Danish Open swimming meet in Copenhagen, Denmark.
  • 16-yr-old, Vedaant Madhavan, who is the son of actor R Madhavan clocked 15.57.86 to finish second in the 10-swimmer final.
  • He had won a bronze medal at the Latvia Open in 2021

2. NITI Aayog plans to launch National Data and Analytics Platform in May to provide govt data in user-friendly format

  • NITI Aayog is planning to launch a National Data and Analytics Platform (NDAP) in May to provide government data in a user-friendly format, to promote data-driven decision making and research.
  • Conceived in 2020, the platform aims to standardise data across govt. sources & provide flexible analytics that make it easy for users to analyse information using multiple datasets.

3. Alliance Air starts direct flight service between Mumbai and Keshod in Gujarat under UDAN Regional Connectivity Scheme

  • Union Minister for Civil Aviation Jyotiraditya Scindia recently flagged off the first flight from Keshod Gujarat to Mumbai and vice-versa under UDAN Regional Connectivity Scheme.
  • Alliance Air has commenced the first flight from Keshod to Mumbai and vice-versa.
  • Scindia has also inaugurated upgraded facilities at Keshod Airport.

4. Indian embassy in Pakistan condoles demise of philanthropist Bilquis Bano Edhi

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi condoled the demise of Bilquis Bano Edhi, Pakistan’s renowned activist and philanthropist, and conveyed his sincere condolences.
  • Bilquis Edhi, the wife of Pakistan’s renowned and revered humanitarian and philanthropist late Abdul Sattar Edhi, passed away.
  • She was 74.

5. Kotak pauses crypto trade with CoinSwitch Kuber

  • The private sector bank KOTAK has discontinued – at least temporarily – handling payments for trades with CoinSwitch Kuber, a large crypto intermediary.
  • Kotak’s stand could deal a blow to the unregulated industry.
  • It follows digital wallet MobiKwik reportedly snapping its links with crypto-related payments since the beginning of April.
  • MobiKwik had emerged as the sole payment option for the bulk of crypto traders

6. Parliament passes bill to include Darlong as sub-tribe of Kuki in Scheduled Tribes list of Tripura

  • Parliament passed a bill for the inclusion of the Darlong community as a sub-tribe of Kuki in the list of Scheduled Tribes of Tripura.
  • Rajya Sabha passed the Constitution (Scheduled Tribes) Order (Amendment) Bill-2022 with a voice vote.
  • Kuki is one of the main tribal communities in Northeast India and the Darlong community in Tripura will become its 18th sub-tribe.

7. 40th edition of Hunar Haat begins in Mumbai

  • The 40th edition of Hunar Haat begins in Mumbai.
  • The 12-day event organized by the Union Ministry of Minority Affairs is aimed at providing exposure and employment opportunities to artisans, craftsmen and traditional culinary experts from across the country.
  • The event is being held in Bandra Kurla Complex in the suburban area of Mumbai.

8. PM Modi unveils a 108-feet statue of Lord Hanuman at Morbi in Gujarat

  • On the occasion of Hanuman Jayanti, Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveiled a 108-feet statue of Lord Hanuman in Morbi, Gujarat via video conferencing.
  • As part of Hanuman ji Chaar Dhaam Project, this statue is the second of the four statues being set up in the four directions across the country.

9. Draft Policy Guidelines on Right of Way (RoW) for Establishment of Telecommunications Infrastructure

  • The Department of Telecommunications has released draft policy guidelines to bring consistency in Right of Way-related procedures across states & spur the deployment of telecom infrastructure ahead of a pan-India roll out of fifth-generation or 5G technology.
  • Telecom debt.has prescribed the methodology for calculation of RoW area, establishment of poles for the small cells etc.

10. AIMA honours Shoojit Sircar with Director Of The Year award for Sardar Udham

  • At an award ceremony held in Delhi, Nitin Gadkari, Minister for Road Transport and Highways, presented the 2021 AIMA Managing India Awards (AIMA) in multiple categories in Delhi.
  • In the films category, Shoojit Sircar was honoured with the Director Of The Year award for Sardar Udham.

11. Veteran television producer, Gol Maal actor Manju Singh passes away

  • Veteran Hindi television presenter and actor Manju Singh passed away recently due to cardiac arrest.
  • Lyricist, singer, and screenwriter Swanand Kirkire took to Twitter to mourn Singh’s death and reminisce about his time working with her for Doordarshan.
