1. India finished fourth in Commonwealth Games 2022 with 61 medals in total
- It has been a remarkable final day for the Indian contingent at the Commonwealth Games. It has won four gold medals, one silver and one bronze.
- With the final day heroics, India finished fourth in the medals tally with 61 medals comprising 22 gold, 16 silver and 23 bronze.
- PV Sindhu and Lakshya Sen clinched the women’s and men’s singles titles in badminton to give India.
2. India, US begin joint Special Forces exercise start in Himachal Pradesh’s Bakloh
- The 13th Edition of the Indo-US Joint Special Forces exercise “Ex Vajra Prahar 2022” commenced at the Special Forces Training School at Bakloh of Himachal Pradesh.
- The Vajra Prahar series of joint exercises aims to share best practices and experiences in areas such as joint mission planning and operational tactics as also to improve interoperability between the Special Force.
- The 12th edition was conducted at Joint Base Lewis Mcchord, Washington (USA) in October.
3. Sri Lanka’s Prabath Jayasuriya and England’s Emma Lamb are ICC players of the month for July 2022
- Sri Lankan spin sensation Prabath Jayasuriya and England’s emerging all-rounder Emma Lamb were voted ICC player of the month for July 2022.
- Jayasuriya made his debut in the Test series against Australia and has picked up 29 wickets from three games with one four-wicket haul and as many as four five-wicket hauls.
4. Sanjay Agarwal takes charge as assistant director general of ICRISAT
- Sanjay Agarwal took charge as the Assistant Director General of the International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT).
- He is currently the Chair of the Government of India’s Committee on Minimum Support Price.

5. 1.37 crore candidates benefited from Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana
- The government says one crore 36 lakh candidates have benefited from the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY) since its inception till June this year.
- It said under the central component, the government released over 8,590 crore rupees, of which more than 7,877 crore were utilized.

6. RBI Imposed Rs 32 Lakh penalty on Indian Bank and Rs 82 Lakh on Jupiter Capital
- The Reserve Bank of India on August 5 imposed a monetary penalty of Rs 32 l on state-run Indian Bank for non-compliance of norms related to classification of frauds.
- It has imposed a penalty of ₹82 lakh on Bengaluru-based Jupiter Capital Private Ltd, for breach of norms on submission of credit information.
- The regulator’s statutory inspection report revealed that the bank failed to comply with guidance related to fraud classification, to the extent it furnished a flash report to RBI in certain instances with Delay.

7. RBI’s move to bring credit information companies into ombudsman scheme expected to quicken redressals
- In order to make the RB-IOS more broad-based, it has been decided to include Credit Information Companies (CICs) under the RB-IOS framework.
- This will provide a cost-free alternative redress mechanism for grievances against CICs.
- The Banking Ombudsman Scheme (BOS) is introduced under Section 35 A of the Banking Regulation Act, 1949 by RBI with effect from 1995.
8. IRDAI proposes a 30% cap on the expenses of management for Indian general insurance companies.
- India’s insurance regulator has proposed a single limit of management expenses at 30% of the gross written premiums for general and health insurers in a given year across segments.
- The segment-wise caps were introduced in an April 2016 notification.
- That allowed insurers to book expenses based on gross premium turnover for different segments such as fire, marine, motor, etc.

- After resuming the chair as director of CSIR, Sh. Kalaiselvi will now lead the consortium of 38 research institutes in the country.
- Kalaiselvi is the successor of former CSIR director Shekhar Mande, whose tenure ended in April this year.

10. Small Satellite Launch Vehicle put them in elliptical, not circular orbit, says ISRO
- SSLV-D1 placed the satellites into 356 km x 76 km elliptical orbit instead of 356 km circular orbit.
- Satellites are no longer usable.
- Issue is reasonably identified.
- Failure of a logic to identify a sensor failure and go for a salvage action caused the deviation.

- Grandmaster and five-time World Champion Viswanathan Anand has been elected as the deputy president of FIDE, the international chess body.
- Russian and incumbent president Arkady Dvorkovich was successfully re-elected as FIDE President.
- Dvorkovic received 167 votes in his favour while opponent Andrii Baryshpolets got 16.
- Dvorkovich was 1st elected as FIDE President in Oct 2018, succeeding Kirsan Ilyumzhinov.

- A 51:49 joint venture between Centrum Group and payments company Bharatpe, Unity SFB started operations in November 2021.

14. Indian Army conducts 5-day exercise to test satellites
- The exercise named “Skylight” was conducted from July 25 to July 29.
- In a five-day-long satellite communication exercise, the Indian Army has tested all of its space-based assets to ensure their operational readiness.
- The Army is utilising the services of a number of satellites belonging to the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO).
15. RBI expands scope of Standalone primary dealers (SPDs), allows them to offer more FX facilities
- The Reserve Bank of India expanded the scope of activities of primary dealers, allowing them to participate in more foreign exchange-related business activities.
- Standalone primary dealers will now be able to offer all foreign exchange market-making facilities that only category-I authorised dealers are permitted to undertake.
16. South Korea launches its first lunar orbiter, known as Danuri
- South Korea launched its first lunar orbiter, which is expected to reach the Moon by mid-December.
- Nicknamed Danuri, meaning “enjoy the Moon”, the Pathfinder Lunar Orbiter was launched on a Falcon 9 rocket from Cape Canaveral in Florida by Elon Musk’s aerospace company SpaceX.
