1. Pushp Kumar Joshi appointed HPCL Chairman and Managing Director
- Pushp Kumar Joshi, who recently took over as the interim chairman and managing director of Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd (HPCL), has been appointed on the Board of the nation’s third-largest oil refining and fuel marketing company.
- He was picked by Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB) to succeed Mukesh Kumar Surana.
2. Cyclone Asani raging in Bay of Bengal expected to weaken without landfall
- Asani, the severe cyclonic storm in the Bay of Bengal, packing gale force winds up to 120 km per hour, was moving towards coastal Andhra Pradesh and Odisha at a speed of 25 km per hour, but expected to weaken gradually over the next two days.
- The name ‘Asani’ was given by Sri Lanka.

- India’s Avinash Sable broke a 30-year-old record of Bahadur Prasad in 5000m, setting a new national record with a timing of 13:25.65 at the Sound Running Track meet in San Juan Capistrano, USA.
- The 27-year-old from Maharashtra broke the old record of 13:29.70 set by Bahadur Prasad in 1992.
- Sable also holds the national record in the half marathon.

- Indian Grandmaster D Gukesh emerged champion in the 1st Chessable Sunway Formentera Open 2022 chess tournament.

5. Exim Bank enters into an agreement with the SBM (Mauritius) to provide an additional LoC of USD 190 million
- Exim Bank has entered into an agreement with the SBM (Mauritius) Infrastructure Development Company Ltd. (SBMIDCL) to provide a supported Line of Credit of USD 190m.
- The agreement has been entered for the purpose of financing its participation through Redeemable Preference Shares in public sector entities for implementing the ongoing Metro Express & infrastructure Projects.
6. New plant species discovered in Idukki, Kerala
- A new plant species has been discovered in Idukki district by researchers at the postgraduate and research department of Botany at St. Albert’s College in Kochi.
- They fall under the genus Peperomia and the newly discovered plant has been named ‘Peperomia Albertiae’ in recognition of the work carried out by researchers.

- India won its second gold medal in shooting at the ongoing 24th Deaflympics in Caxias do Sul, Brazil, with Abhinav Deshwal claiming the men’s 10m air pistol title.
- Abhinav made the top eight final round after finishing second in the 60-shot qualification round with a score of 575 out of 600.

- Uttar Pradesh government will provide free wi-fi facility at more than 58 thousand places in the villages of the state.
- This internet facility will be available for the people within 50 meters of the Gram Sachivalaya (village secretariat) building which is being built in every Gram Panchayat of the state.
