1. Madras High Court Chief Justice Munishwar Nath Bhandari appointed as SAFEMA chairman

  • Madras High Court Chief Justice (CJ) Munishwar Nath Bhandari, has been appointed as the chairperson of the Appellate Tribunal under the Smugglers and Foreign Exchange Manipulators Act (SFEMA).
  • CJ Bhandari has been appointed to the SAFEMA Tribunal for a term of four years.
  • Justice M Duraiswamy has been appointed as the acting Chief Justice of the Madras High Court.
  • He will be drawing a monthly remuneration of ₹2,50,000.

2. India-Born Devika Bulchandani appointed as Global CEO of Oglivy

  • Advertising, marketing and public relations giant Ogilvy has appointed Devika Bulchandani as its Global Chief Executive Officer.
  • She takes the helm from Andy Main who is stepping down as Global CEO and will serve as a Senior Advisor until the end of the year.
  • About Oglivy:
    • Ogilvy is a New York City-based British advertising, marketing, and public relations agency.

3. Sanjay Kumar Rakesh appointed as managing director of CSC e-Governance SPV

  • Sanjay Kumar Rakesh, Common Service Centre (CSC), a special purpose vehicle (SPV) of the Centre, has been appointed as the Managing Director of the company.
  • The decision to this effect was taken at the 52nd board meeting of CSC held at the Ministry of Electronics and IT.
  • The appointment comes following the resignation of Dinesh Tyagi from the post.

4. Two-time Olympic javelin champion Barbora Spotakova, announces retirement

  • Barbora Spotakova, a two-time Olympic champion and world record holder in the javelin, retired at age 41.
  • Spotakova, the gold medalist in 2008 and 2012, is one of two women to win multiple Olympic javelin titles, along with East German Ruth Fuchs in 1972 and 1976.
  • Fuchs later admitted to using steroids during her career.

5. NITI Aayog, WRI launches e-FAST – India’s first national electric freight platform

  • NITI Aayog, in collaboration with World Resources Institute (WRI), India, launched the country’s first national electric freight platform – e-FAST India (Electric Freight Accelerator for Sustainable Transport – India).
  • The platform also aims to raise awareness on freight electrification bolstered by on-ground demonstration pilots and evidence-based research.

6. WAAREE partners with SBI for financing projects for Consumers and Channel Partners

  • WAAREE, India’s largest Solar Panel manufacturer, has entered into an Agreement with SBI for availing unsecured financing for solar projects through Surya Shakti Solar Finance Scheme and providing working capital for Channel Partners under EDFS (Electronic dealer finance scheme).

7. Indian FMCG company Pintola ropes in Sunil Chhetri as brand ambassador

  • Homegrown superfood brand Pintola has signed Sunil Chhetri, the captain of the Indian Football team, as the face of its nut butter brand in a multi-year.
  • This is going to be Chhetri’s first ever collaboration with a FMCG brand in the country.
  • Launched in 2012, Pintola has become one of the leading nut butters’ brands in the country, offering a wide array of nut butter range.
  • FMCG = Fast-moving consumer goods.

8. Finance ministry to assess PSB performance and credit disbursement

  • According to data from the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), the asset quality of the banking system has improved, with the gross non-performing asset (NPA) ratio falling from 7.4 per cent in March 2021 to a six-year low of 5.9 per cent in March 2022.
  • Additionally, the net bad loan ratio decreased from 2.4 per cent in March 2021 to 1.7 per cent in March 2022.

9. India ranks 132nd out of 191 in UNDP’s human development index

  • India ranked 132nd among 191 countries and territories on the 2021 Human Development Index (HDI), showed a report by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP).
  • In the 2020 report, India had ranked 131st among 189 countries and territories.
  • India’s latest HDI value of 0.633 places the country in the medium human development category.

10. PM addresses inauguration ceremony of ‘Kalam no Carnival’ Book Fair organised by Navbharat Sahitya Mandir in Ahmedabad

  • The Prime Minister added that ‘Kalam no Carnival’ is a huge convention of books in Hindi, English and Gujarati languages.
  • Shri Modi mentioned that when he was the Chief Minister of Gujarat, the state had also started the ‘Vanche Gujarat’ campaign, and today, campaigns like the ‘Kalam no Carnival’ are only taking that resolve of Gujarat forward.

11. Shri Dharmendra Pradhan participates in the India Ideas Summit organised by US-India Business Council

  • Union Minister of Education and Skill Development & Entrepreneurship Shri Dharmendra Pradhan participated in the India Ideas Summit organised by the U.S-India Business Council and the U.S Chamber of Commerce, International Affairs, South Asia.
  • The theme of the event was “Maximising the Next 75 years of U.S. – India Prosperity”.

12. PM inaugurates ‘Kartavya Path’ and unveils the statue of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose at India Gate

  • The jet-black granite statue of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, measures a total of 28 ft. and is placed under the Canopy near India Gate.
  • The grand statue of Netaji, has been carved from a monolithic block of granite weighing 280 MT.
  • After 26,000 man hours of intense artistic endeavor, the granite monolith was chiseled to produce a statue weighing 65 MT.

13. US Embassy says the country issues highest number of student visas to Indians in 2022

  • The United States has issued a record of 82,000 student visas to Indians in 2022, the US Embassy in India said.
  • As per the embassy, Indian students comprise nearly 20 percent of all international students studying in the United States.
  • Apart from the US, Indians have also received the largest share of UK study, work and visit visas in the

14. ESAF Bank launches ‘rainbow account’ for transgender community

  • ESAF Small Finance Bank Ltd launched a ‘Rainbow Savings Account’ exclusively for the transgender community offering a host of features, including high savings rate and advanced debit card facilities.

15. Union Agriculture Minister inaugurates National Conference on Agriculture for Rabi Campaign-2022

  • Union Agriculture Minister, Shri Narendra Singh Tomar inaugurated the National Conference on Agriculture for Rabi Campaign 2022-23 at NASC, Pusa, New Delhi.
  • Addressing the Conference, he highlighted that as per the 4th Advance Estimates (2021-22), the production of food grains in the country is estimated at 3157 lakh tonnes.
