1. India elected as Chair of the Association of Asian Election Authorities (AAEA) for 2022-24

  • India has been unanimously elected as the new Chair of the Association of Asian Election Authorities (AAEA) for 2022-2024 at the recently held meeting of the Executive board and General Assembly at Manila, Philippines on May 7, 2022.
  • Commission on Elections, Manila was the current chair of AAEA.

2. Mamata Banerjee honored with Special Bangla Academy Award

  • West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee received the Bangla Academy Award for her “relentless literary pursuit”.
  • The award, introduced this year by Sahitya Academy, was presented to Banerjee for her book “Kabita Bitan”, which pays tribute to the best writers of West Bengal.
  • Mamata Banerjee’s ‘Kabita Bitan’ was launched at the 2020 Kolkata Book Fair.

3. Ajay Kumar Mishra appointed new UP Advocate general

  • Ajay Kumar Mishra has been appointed as the new Advocate General of Uttar Pradesh, a proposal to this effect was cleared by the UP Cabinet.
  • A bench of Justice D K Upadhyaya and Justice Subhash Vidyarthi passed the order after taking suo motu cognisance of the issue.

4. ICICI Bank ties up with Santander for India-UK business ease

  • ICICI Bank, announced a tie-up with Santander bank in Britain in a pact aimed at facilitating the banking requirements of corporates operating across both countries.
  • UK is the sixth-largest investor in India’s economy, with cumulative foreign direct investment (FDI) inflows of USD 31.7 billion and contributing 6 per cent to India’s total FDI inflows.

5. HDFC Bank launches 30 minute ‘Xpress Car Loan’

  • Private sector lender HDFC Bank has launched a 30-minute ‘Xpress Car Loans’ for its existing customers as well as new customers.
  • Buyers can apply for up to Rs 20 lakh and the loan amount will be credited to the dealers’ accounts within 30-minute.
  • The Xpress Loans facility is currently available for four-wheelers and will be soon rolled out to two-wheelers as well.

6. Madhya Pradesh govt launches second phase of Ladli Laxmi scheme to make girls self-reliant

  • In Madhya Pradesh, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has launched Ladli Laxmi scheme-2.0 during a state-level function at Lal Parade Ground in Bhopal.
  • The Chief Minister also dedicated the Ladli e-Samvad app to establish a continuous dialogue with Ladlis.

7. Prominent Crossing in Ayodhya to be Developed & Named After Lata Mangeshkar

  • A prominent crossing in Ayodhya will be developed and named after legendary singer Bharat Ratna late Lata Mangeshkar who passed away on February 6.
  • Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed the Ayodhya administration to identify a prominent crossing in the temple town and send a proposal to the state government in the next 15 days for renaming it after Lata Mangeshkar.

8. Yoon Suk-Yeol Sworn in as the President of South Korean

  • Yoon Suk-yeol was sworn in as South Korean president in a huge ceremony at Seoul’s National Assembly, taking office at a time of high tensions with the nuclear-armed North.

9. PMJJBY, PMSBY And Atal Pension Yojana (APY) Complete 7 Years Of Providing Social Security Net

  • As we celebrate the 7th anniversaries of three social security (Jan Suraksha) schemes, Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana (PMJJBY), Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana (PMSBY) and Atal Pension Yojana (APY), let us focus on how these schemes have provided affordable insurance and security to people (Jan Suraksha), their achievements and salient features.

10. Unemployment rate at 8.7% in October-December 2021, says NSO survey

  • The unemployment rate for persons of 15 years and above in urban areas slipped to 8.7 per cent in October-December 2021 from 10.3 per cent in the year-ago quarter, showed a periodic labour force survey by the National Statistical Office (NSO).
  • Joblessness or unemployment rate (UR) is defined as the percentage of unemployed persons in the labour force.

11. Priyanka Mohite, the First Indian Woman to Scale Five Peaks Above 8,000m

  • Priyanka Mohite from Satara in western Maharashtra has become the first Indian woman to scale five peaks above 8,000 metres after she climbed Mount Kanchenjunga.
  • Priyanka Mohite (30), the recipient of Tenzing Norgay Adventure Award 2020, successfully completed her expedition to Mount Kanchenjunga (8,586 m).

12. Union Minister for Youth Affairs & Sports Shri Anurag Thakur lays foundation stone of Hockey Astroturf at Majra in Sirmour

  • Anurag Thakur, Union Minister for Information & Broadcasting, Youth Affairs and Sports, has laid the foundation stone of a Rs 7.50 crore AstroTurf hockey stadium at Majra in Paonta Sahib in Sirmaur district, Himachal Pradesh.
  • Efforts are afoot to make Himachal a front-runner in the field of sports as there was no dearth of talent.

13. Indian Navy to Acquire Spy Satellite GISAT-2 to Boost Capability in IOR

  • In a move to boost modernization and network-centric warfare and communications programme, the Indian Navy is looking to acquire a dedicated earth imaging satellite — Geo Imaging Satellite-2 (GISAT-2) in this fiscal year.
  • The GISAT-2, is among 21 planned procurements, including some long-term acquisitions according to reports.
