1. Govt re-nominated four Non-official Directors on the Central Board of RBI
- The Central Government has re-nominated Ms Revathy Iyer and Prof. Sachin Chaturvedi as part-time, non-official Directors on the Central Board of Reserve Bank of India for a further period of four years after completion of their present tenure on September 18, 2022, or until further orders, whichever is earlier.
- The Govt has also re-nominated Shri Satish Kashinath Marathe and Shri Swaminathan Gurumurthy for a further period of four years.
2. Har Ghar Tiranga Campaign : India Post sells more than 1 crore national flags in 10 days with its network of 1.5 lakh Post Offices
- The Department of Posts with its omnipresent network of 1.5 lakh Post Offices, has taken “Har Ghar Tiranga” Programme to every citizen of the country.
- Within a short span of 10 days, India Post has sold more than 1 crore National Flags, through Post offices as well as online, to citizens.
- These Flags have been sold by the Department at a very economical price of Rs. 25/- .
- The length to width ratio of the flag has to be 3:2.
3. Union Minister Amit Shah inaugurates National Conference of Rural Cooperative Banks
- Union Minister Amit Shah has inaugurated the National Conference of Rural Cooperative Banks organized by the Ministry of Cooperation and the National Federation of State Cooperative Banks (NAFSCOB) in New Delhi.
- NAFSCOB provides a common forum to members and their affiliates/ shareholders/ owners to project their achievements, focus their concerns and promote their interests.
4. MoU signed between NHIDCL and NSDC for collaboration in skill development initiatives
- A MoU was signed between MD, NHIDCL (National Highways Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited) and COO & Officiating CEO NSDC (National Skill Development Corporation) on 08.08.2022.
- COO = Chief Operating Officer.
- The MoU provides a formal basis of interaction between NHIDCL and NSDC, and will play a significant role in realizing the aims and objectives of the Prime Minister’s skill development program.
5. Managing Director of Drug firm Pfizer, S Sridhar resigns
- Drug firm Pfizer said its Managing Director S Sridhar has resigned from the company.
- Over the past 14 years, Sridhar has led a number of key leadership positions in Pfizer, including serving as the Chief Financial Officer for a period of eight years.
- Sridhar also serves as the President of the Organisation of Pharmaceuticals Producers of India (OPPI).
6. RBI cancels the licence of Rupee Co-operative Bank Ltd, Pune
- RBI has cancelled the licence of “Rupee Co-operative Bank Ltd, Pune”.
- Consequent to the cancellation of its licence, the bank is prohibited from conducting the business of ‘banking’ which includes, acceptance of deposits and repayment of deposits as defined in Section 5(b) read with Section 56 of the Banking Regulation Act, 1949 with effect from September 2022.
7. Justice Uday Umesh Lalit appointed as 49th Chief Justice of the country
- President Droupadi Murmu has appointed Justice as the 49th Chief Justice of India, CJI.
- He will take over the charge on 27th of this month.
- The present CJI Justice N V Ramana will retire on 26th August.
- Justice Uday Umesh Lalit was appointed as Judge of the Supreme Court of India in August 2014.
8. CA Bhavani Devi bags gold at Commonwealth Fencing women’s Championships 2022
- Bhavani Devi, who became the first Indian fencer to qualify for the Olympics, won a gold medal at the Commonwealth Fencing Championship 2022.
- She defeated Australia’s Veronika Vasileva 15-10 in the finals of senior women’s sabre individual category.
- She had also won a gold at the same event back in 2018, when the tournament took place in Canberra, Australia.
9. RBI tightens digital lending norms to prevent charging of exorbitant rates
- RBI, to prevent charging of exorbitant interest rates by certain entities and also check unethical loan recovery practices.
- Under the new norms, all loan disbursal and repayments are required to be executed only between the bank accounts of the borrower and the regulated entities (like banks and NBFCs) without any pass-through/ pool account of the Lending Service Providers (LSP).

10. US President Joe Biden signs ratification of US support for Finland and Sweden to enter the NATO
- US President Joe Biden has signed documents endorsing Finland and Sweden’s accession to NATO alliance.
- Sweden and Finland applied for NATO membership in response to Russia’s military actions in Ukraine.
- Moscow has repeatedly warned both countries against joining the alliance.

11. JD(U) leader Nitish Kumar sworn-in as Chief Minister of Bihar and RJD leader Tejashwi Prasad Yadav as Deputy Chief Minister
- Janata Dal (United) leader Nitish Kumar was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Bihar for a record eighth time.
- Mr Kumar was administered the oath of office by Governor Phagu Chauhan at a simple ceremony at Raj Bhavan in Patna.
- RJD leader Tejashwi Prasad Yadav was also sworn in as the Deputy Chief Minister for the second time.

12. ICAR develops indigenous vaccine for Lumpy Skin Disease in cattle
- In a major breakthrough, two institutes of agri research body ICAR have developed an indigenous vaccine for Lumpy Skin Disease in cattle which has spread across many states in the last few months.
- The Centre plans to commercialise this vaccine, developed by the two institutes of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) at the earliest in order to control the disease.
