1. Rajiv Kumar appointed as next Chief Election Commissioner, to take charge on May 15
- The Union Ministry of Law and Justice announced Rajiv Kumar, the current Election Commissioner, will take over as the next Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) from May 15.
- Kumar will take charge from CEC Sushil Chandra, who is due to retire.
- In pursuance of clause (2) of Article 324 of the Constitution, the President made the appointment.
- Union Law Minister- Kiren Rijiju.
2. Campbell Wilson appointed CEO and MD of Air India
- Campbell Wilson has been appointed as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) & Managing Director (MD) of Air India, Tata Sons announced.
- Wilson was previously the CEO of Scoot, a Singaporean low-cost airline and a wholly-owned subsidiary of Singapore Airlines.

3. Thomas And Uber Cup 2022: India Men Stun Malaysia To Enter Semis, Assure Of At Least Bronze Medal
- The Indian men’s badminton team scripted a memorable 3-2 win over Malaysia to enter the semifinals of Thomas Cup for the first time in 43 years but the women’s side bowed out after losing 0-3 to Thailand in the Uber Cup in Bangkok, Thailand
- India is thus assured of at least a bronze at the Thomas Cup.
- The country has not won a medal at the event since 1979.
4. Ranil Wickremesinghe Appointed Sri Lanka PM for the 5th Time
- Ranil Wickremesinghe took oath as Sri Lanka’s new prime minister marking the fifth time the 73-year-old became PM of the country.
- This comes after former PM Mahinda Rajapaksa resigned from the post on 9 May amid the worst economic crisis facing the country since 1948.

- The Board of Directors of the Bank has approved the appointment of Shri T. N. Manoharan, Independent Director (DIN: 01186248) as Part-time Chairman (PTC) of IDBI Bank, for a period of 3 years with effect from May 09, 2022.
7. Bengaluru-based Bellatrix Aerospace tests green satellite propulsion
- Bengaluru-based Bellatrix Aerospace has tested an eco-friendly propulsion system for satellites that cuts a new path from the hydrazine-dependent fuel systems and offers a potential 20% jump in fuel efficiency for space satellites.
- Bellatrix Aerospace, is an Indian private aerospace manufacturer and small satellite company, headquartered in Bangalore, India.
8. Gurusamy Krishnamoorthy to receive the Member of the Royal Order of British Empire (MBE) recognition
- Guruswamy Krishnamoorthy, CEO of Penlon, a world-class British medical technology firm, is likely to receive the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (Civil Division) Award 2022 – Honorary Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) recognition from the Queen at Buckingham Palace, London, UK.

9. RailTel launches PM-WANI scheme based access of its Wi-Fi services across 100 Indian Railways’ stations
- RailTel launched the Prime Minister Wi-Fi Access Network Interface (PM-WANI) scheme based on access to its fast & free public WiFi services across 100 Indian Railways stations having 2,384 WiFi hotspots.
- PM-WANI based access will facilitate the ease of use through one time KYC to avoid OTP based authentication, every time one tries to use WANI based Public Wi-Fi service.
10. Shri Bhagwant Khuba to attend Intersolar Europe 2022
- Union Minister of State for Ministry of New and Renewable Energy Shri Bhagwant Khuba is attending Intersolar Europe 2022 to be held from 11th May to 13th May 2022 in Munich, Germany.
- The Minister delivered the keynote address at the investment promotion event “India’s Solar Energy Market” on 12th May 2022 in Munich.
- The event is being organized by the Indo-German Energy Forum (IGEF).
11. WEF to focus on emerging technologies to help small, marginal farmers
- The World Economic Forum (WEF), in partnership with the Government’s think-tank Niti Aayog, is focusing on putting emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT), blockchain and drones, to better use to ensure they benefit farmers, particularly small and marginal.
12. South Korea becomes first Asian member of NATO cyber research centre
- South Korea’s intelligence agency has joined a cyber defense group under the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), becoming its first Asian member country.
- The think-tank was established in 2008 by NATO members, on the initiative of Estonia, in response to the country suffering crippling cyberattacks allegedly committed by Russia.
13. LS Speaker Om Birla launches Kalam website to encourage vernacular literature
- Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla has formally launched the Kalam website, a literary initiative of the Prabha Khaitan Foundation to support and encourage vernacular literature.
- The aim of Kalam is to popularize Hindi literature and provide a platform for veteran and young authors and poets to talk about their writings and love for vernacular literature.
14. Vice President releases book titled “The Struggle for Police Reforms in India” written by former IPS Officer Prakash Singh
- Vice President (VP) of India, M Venkaiah Naidu, released a book titled “The Struggle for Police Reforms in India: Ruler’s Police to People’s Police” authored by a former IPS officer, Prakash Singh in New Delhi.
- He has stressed on the need to upgrade the skills of policemen to effectively tackle cybercrimes, economic offences and online frauds.
