1. Lt Gen Manoj Pande appointed as Army Chief, first engineer to be COAS
- Lt Gen Manoj Pande has been appointed as India’s Army Chief. He is the first engineer to be promoted to the top post.
- Pande replaces General Manoj Mukund Naravane, who had taken charge of the office on 31 December 2021 and is set to retire in April 2022.
- Gen Pande was commissioned in the Bombay Sappers in December 1982.
- Pande took charge as the Vice Chief of the Indian Army, succeeding Lt Gen C P Mohanty.
2. PM Modi to inaugurate 1st ever Semicon India-2022 Conference on 29th April
- Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the first ever Semicon India-2022 Conference on 29th of this month in Bengaluru.
- Semicon India-2022 Conference will be organised by Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology from 29th of April to 1st of May around the theme of – Design and Manufacture in India, for the World: Making India a Semiconductor Nation.
3. Senior Asian Wrestling Championship begins in Mongolia
- The senior Asian Wrestling Championship will begin in Mongolia.
- 30 Indian wrestlers, including Olympic medallists Ravi Dahiya and Bajrang Punia, will participate in the event.
- A total of 20 wrestlers from the men’s team across the Freestyle and Greco-Roman categories and 10 from the women’s team are participating in the event.
4. PM Modi to launch multiple development projects at Banas Dairy Sankul in Diyodar; To also lay foundation stone of GCTM
- Prime Minister Narendra Modi will dedicate to the nation and lay the foundation stone of multiple development projects at Banas Dairy Sankul in Diyodar, Banaskantha, Gujarat.
- Mr Modi will also lay the foundation stone of WHO Global Centre for Traditional Medicine (GCTM) in Jamnagar.

- Paytm owner One97 Communications has become an official digital payments partner for the prime ministers’ museum in the national capital.
- ‘Pradhanmantri Sangrahalaya’ (prime ministers’ museum), which is a tribute to every prime minister in the country since independence.
7. Willis Towers Watson gains full ownership of WTW India, appoints Vivek Nath as head of India unit
- Nasdaq-listed Willis Towers Watson (WTW), a global advisory, broking and solutions company, has received insurance regulator IRDAI’s approval for a transaction leading to its acquisition of the remaining 51 per cent shareholding in Willis Towers Watson India Insurance Brokers Private Limited (WTW India).
- Vivek Nath has been appointed as WTW’s Head of India.
8. Tropical Storm Megi: Landslides and floods kill 167 in Philippines
- Megi was the first cyclone this year to hit the Philippines, an archipelago of more than 7,600 islands that sees an average of 20 tropical storms a year.
- The death toll from the landslides and flooding spawned by tropical storm Megi has risen to 167, with 110 still missing.
- Megi dumped rains in the central and southern Philippine regions before and after it hit land.
9. Russian warship Moskva sinks after ‘Ukraine’s Neptune missile strike’
- Russia’s flagship Black Sea fleet named ‘Moskva’, a guided-missile cruiser, sunk after what a Ukrainian official claimed was a cruise missile attack off the coast of Odesa.
- The Neptune cruise missile is a Ukrainian-manufactured anti-ship missile, fired from shore to ship.
- This cruise missile that hit the Russian fleet was developed by Ukraine & entered service in 2020.
10. Karnataka appoints Robin Uthappa as brand ambassador for Brain Health Initiative
- The Health Department has appointed cricketer Robin Uthappa as the ambassador for brain health and mental health to create awareness on these issues.
- The brain health initiative in Karnataka is being undertaken in collaboration with the Ministry of Health, NITI Aayog and Nimhans.
11. Israel Becomes The First Country To Successfully Shoot Down Drones With ‘Iron Beam’ Laser Interceptors
- Israel’s new laser missile-defense system has successfully intercepted mortars, rockets and anti-tank missiles in recent tests.
- The Israeli-made laser system, known as the “Iron Beam”, is designed to complement a series of aerial defense systems, including the costliest rocket-intercepting Iron Dome.
12. India Pulses and Grains Association appoints Bimal Kothari as Chairman
- India Pulses and Grains Association (IPGA), the apex body for India’s pulses trade and industry, has appointed Bimal Kothari as the new Chairman with immediate effect.
- He has been the Vice-Chairman of IPGA since 2011 when the trade body was formed.
- Kothari takes over as the third chairman of the association after Pravin Dongre and Jitu Bheda.
