1.  Anil Baijal, Delhi L-G, submits resignation to President Sh. Kovind

  • Delhi lieutenant governor (L-G) Anil Baijal resigned citing personal reasons.
  • He has submitted the resignation to President Ram Nath Kovind.
  • Baijal, who took over office on December 31, 2016, after the sudden resignation of Najeeb Jung, has served a long tenure of more than five years and four months.
  • Baijal was appointed the home secretary in the Atal Bihari Vajpayee government.

2.  UCO Bank appoints Sujoy Dutta as CFO

  • UCO Bank has designated Sujoy Dutta as the new chief financial officer with immediate effect.
  • Dutta holds a bachelor diploma in commerce from Calcutta College and he’s a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountant of India (ICAI).

3.  Ministry of Heavy Industries signs MoU with NRDC for enhancement of Capital Goods Scheme

  • The Ministry of Heavy Industries has signed an MoU with National Research Development Corporation for undertaking various activities for smooth implementation of the Scheme for enhancement of competitiveness in the Indian capital goods sector.
  • The vision of this MoU is to make India a global hub for the manufacturing of capital goods.

4.  IndiGo appoints Pieter Elbers as CEO; Ronojoy Dutta to retire on Sept 30

  • The Board of Directors of InterGlobe Aviation Limited appointed Pieter Elbers as Chief Executive Officer.
  • He will join IndiGo on or before 1 Oct 2022.
  • He succeeds Ronojoy Dutta who has decided to retire on 30 September 2022.
  • Elbers has served as the President and CEO of KLM Royal Dutch since 2014 and is also a member of the Executive Committee of the Air France-KLM Group.

5.  India overtakes Germany to become 4th largest vehicle market

  • India has once again overtaken Germany to become the fourth largest automotive market.
  • According to the latest numbers sourced from OICA, the Organisation Internationale des Constructeurs d’Automobiles – the international trade association formed of 39 national automotive industry trade associations.
  • India saw 3,759,398 vehicles sold in 2021, compared to 2,973,319 vehicles in Germany.

6.  India contributed USD 800,000 to promote Hindi at UN

  • India has contributed USD 800,000 to the United Nations as part of the initiative to enhance public outreach of the organisation in Hindi.
  • Country’s Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations, R Ravindra handed over a cheque for the UN project launched by India in 2018 to disseminate information about the UN to the Hindi-speaking population across the world.

8.  Rajnath Singh launches India-made warships, INS Surat and INS Udaygiri, in Mumbai

  • In a landmark event in indigenous warship building, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has launched two frontline warships of the Indian Navy at Mazgaon Docks Limited (MDL) in Mumbai.

9.  PM Modi inaugurates India’s First 5G Test Bed worth around Rs 220 cr

  • Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi inaugurated India’s First 5G testbed to enable startups and industry players to test and validate their products locally and reduce dependence on foreign facilities.

10.  India, Jamaica sign MoU for cooperation in diplomatic training

11.  SJVN to develop hydel 490 MW Arun-4 power project worth Rs. 4,900 crore in Nepal

  • State-owned SJVN Ltd will develop another hydro power project Arun-4 worth Rs 4,900 crore in Nepal.

  • A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the development of the 490 MW Arun-4 hydro electric project in Nepal has been signed in Lumbini of Nepal in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Prime Minister of Nepal Sher Bahadur Deuba.

12.  NIELIT Centre Inaugurated At Leh By Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw

  • Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw, Union Cabinet Minister of Electronics & Information Technology, Communications and Railways virtually inaugurated National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology (NIELIT) Centre Leh, Extension Centre Kargil and IT Enabled Incubation Centre for Handicraft and Handloom Sector.

13.  Adani Group becomes India’s 2nd largest cement maker with $10.5 billion acquisition of Ambuja-ACC

  • Billionaire Gautam Adani has clinched a $10.5 billion deal that grants his conglomerate a 63.19 per cent stake in Swiss cement major Holcim Ltd’s India operations, Ambuja Cements Ltd and its subsidiary ACC.
  • With this, the Adani Group became the second largest cement producer in the country after the Aditya Birla Group owned UltraTech Cement.

14.  Capgemini to acquire Chappuis Halder & Cie to expand BFSI capability

  • Capgemini has entered into a share purchase agreement to acquire Chappuis Halder & Cie (Chappuis Halder), a global strategy and management consulting firm specializing in the financial services industry.
  • Headquartered in Luxembourg, Chappuis Halder is a nearly 150-people consulting firm, with main offices in North America (New York and Montreal), Europe (Paris and Geneva).
