1. West Indies All-Rounder Kieron Pollard Announces Retirement From International Cricket

  • Pollard played 123 ODIs after making his debut in the 2007 World Cup, scoring 2706 runs at an average of 26.01 with three centuries, and took 55 wickets along the way too.
  • In 101 T20Is, he scored 1569 runs while striking at 135.14 with a high score of 75 not out.
  • Pollard has played the second-most men’s international games (224) without playing a Test after David Miller.

2. PM Modi inaugurated projects worth Rs 22,000 cr in Dahod and Panchmahal,Gujarat

  • Projects which the PM inaugurated were alone worth over Rs 1,400 crore.
  • Among these, Modi inaugurated Dahod District Southern Area Regional Water Supply Scheme, constructed at Narmada River Basin, which is worth around Rs 840 crore.
  • Foundation stone for manufacturing of 9000 HP Electric Locomotives at the Production Unit in Dahod was also laid. Project cost is Rs.20000 cr.

3. India’s first pure green hydrogen plant commissioned in Jorhat

  • Oil India Limited (OIL) has taken the first significant step towards Green Hydrogen Economy in India with the commissioning of India’s First 99.999% pure Green Hydrogen pilot plant, with an installed capacity of 10 kg per day at its Jorhat Pump Station in Assam.
  • The plant was commissioned in a record time of 3 months.

4. Leading Physicist Ajay Kumar Sood Appointed As Principal Scientific Advisor To Government Of India

  • Ajay Kumar Sood, a member of the Science, Technology and Innovation Advisory Council to the Prime Minister, has been appointed to the post for a period of three years to succeed renowned biologist K VijayRaghavan.
  • Sood was till recently an honorary professor in the Department of Physics at the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, India.
  • A. P. J. Abdul Kalam was the first Principal Scientific Advisor from 1999-2001.

5. Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi inaugurated Global Ayush Investment & Innovation Summit 2022 at Gandhinagar, Gujarat

  • The three day Ayush global summit will witness a dialogue with entrepreneurs, industry, startups and other stakeholders to encourage them to increase investment for innovation in Ayush as the sector continues to showcase colossal room for growth.
  • A new category named ‘Ayush Aahar’ was announced which will greatly facilitate the producers of herbal nutritional supplements.
  • India will soon introduce a special Ayush visa category.

6. ‘Smart Cities, Smart Urbanization’, Conference opens in Surat, with 100 Smart Cities joining from across the country

  • The 3-day “Smart Cities, Smart Urbanization” conference had a grand opening in Surat today.
  • The event is being organised by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA), Government of India with Surat Smart City Corporation Development Ltd.
  • Shri Hardeep Singh Puri, Union Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs was the chief guest at the event.

7. Patrick Achi reappointed as Prime Minister of Cote d’Ivoire

  • Cote d’Ivoire’s President Alassane Ouattara has reappointed Prime Minister Patrick Achi, who resigned at the same time as his government a week earlier.
  • Achi, 66, was appointed prime minister in March 2021.
  • He was the third prime minister in the West African state in the last three years after Amadou Gon Coulibaly and Hamed Bakayoko.

8. Integrated & hi-tech online portals,CROP and PQMS, to strengthen Indian Agriculture

  • Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Narendra Singh Tomar launched these two portals, one for the Computerized Registration of pesticide (CROP) and the other for the Plant Quarantine Management System (PQMS).
  • The new portals will benefit farmers, exporters as well as industrialists.

9. Covishield Maker Serum Institute Of India’s Founder Cyrus Poonawalla Is World’s Richest Healthcare Billionaire

  • Cyrus Poonawalla, the founder of Indian Covid vaccine Covishield’s maker Serum Institute of India (SII), is the world’s richest billionaire in the healthcare sector this year.
  • This is according to the Hurun Global Healthcare Rich List of 2022.
  • The second richest healthcare billionaire globally is HCA healthcare owner Thomas Frist Jr and family.

10. IAF successfully test fires BrahMos missile from a Su30 MkI aircraft on Eastern seaboard

  • IAF has tested live firing of BrahMos missile from a Su30 MkI aircraft on the Eastern seaboard.
  • The missile achieved a direct hit on the target, which was a decommissioned Indian Navy ship.
  • According to the IAF, the mission was undertaken in close coordination with the navy.

11. IMF slashes India’s GDP growth forecast to 8.2% for FY23

  • The International Monetary Fund, in its latest World Economic Outlook report has slashed its forecast for India’s FY23 GDP growth to 8.2 percent from earlier 9 per cent, reflecting in part weaker domestic demand—as higher oil prices are expected to weigh on private consumption and investment—and a drag from lower net exports.

12. IFSCA executes MoU with National Insurance Academy (NIA)

  • The International Financial Services Centres Authority (IFSCA), with an objective of capacity building and providing skilled talent pool in the insurance sector in International Financial Services Centres (IFSCs), has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the National Insurance Academy (NIA).

13. BRO to build world’s highest tunnel at 16,580 feet to connect Himachal to Ladakh through Shinku La Pass

  • The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) will construct the world’s highest tunnel at Shinku La Pass, which will connect Himachal
  • Pradesh to Zanskar Valley in Ladakh.
  • The tunnel will be constructed at a height of 16,580 feet.
  • The construction of the tunnel will start by July this year.
  • It will be completed by 2025.

14. Lieutenant General Manoj Kumar Katiyar appointed as next Director General of Military Operations

  • Lieutenant General Manoj Kumar Katiyar has been appointed as the next Director General of Military Operations.
  • He would take charge of the new office on May 1st.
  • An alumnus of the National Defence Academy, Lieutenant General Katiyar was commissioned in the 23rd Battalion of the Rajput Regiment in June 1986.

15. Indian-American Shanti Sethi appointed Kamala Harris’s defence advisor

  • Trailblazing Indian-American US Navy veteran Shanti Sethi has joined Vice President Kamala Harris’s office as her executive secretary and defence adviser.
  • Shanti Sethi, the first Indian-American commander of a major US Navy combat ship, recently joined Vice President Harris’s office.
