1. Droupadi Murmu elected 15th President of India

  • Droupadi Murmu became India’s 15th President.
  • She succeeded Ram Nath Kovind and will be the first Adivasi woman to occupy the country’s top constitutional post.
  • She is also the country’s second female President after Sh. Pratibha Patil.
  • She was the first woman Governor of the Jharkhand state and the first female tribal leader to serve as a Governor in any Indian state.

2. Open, Cashfree Payments, PayNearby & Fairexpay Receive RBI Nod approvals Cross-Border Payments

  • The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has announced the exit of its Second Cohort under the Regulatory Sandbox with cross-border payments as the theme.
  • Four entities out of the eight that were part of the ‘Test Phase’ were selected by the reserve bank.
  • All 4 entities completed the ‘Test Phase’ of the second cohort.

3. India, UK sign MoU on Mutual Recognition of Educational Qualifications

  • India and the United Kingdom signed a Memorandum of Understanding on Mutual Recognition of Educational Qualifications including maritime education and a Framework agreement on the health care workforce.
  • The MoU from the India side was signed by the Commerce Secretary of the Government of India, B V R Subrahmanyam.

4. Centre considering extension of PMAY-Urban Mission up to March 2024

  • Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs is implementing Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Urban (PMAY-U)- ‘Housing for All’ Mission, since 25 June, 2015 for giving Central assistance to States/ Union Territories (UTs) to provide all-weather pucca houses to all eligible urban beneficiaries.

5. Himachal Pradesh becomes first state in country to connect all registered commercial vehicles equipped with VLTD with ERSS

  • Himachal Pradesh has become the first state in the country to connect all registered commercial vehicles equipped with Vehicle Location Tracking Device (VLTD) with Emergency Response Support System (ERSS).
  • Now these vehicles can be tracked anywhere in the country through VLTD.

6. World Bank Approved $1 Billion Loan For Ayushman Health Scheme

  • The World Bank has approved a loan of USD one billion to provide support to India’s flagship PM Ayushman Bharat Health Infrastructure Mission (PM-ABHIM).
  • It comprises two complementary loans of USD 500 million each namely for “Transforming India’s Public Health Systems for Pandemic Preparedness Program (PHSPP)” and “India’s Enhanced Health Service Delivery Program (EHSDP).

7. PM Modi unveils Varuna-Indian start-up makes pilot-less drone for Indian Navy

  • India’s first human carrying platform — pilot-less drone made its debut in New Delhi in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
  • The makers of this indigenous pilot-less ‘Varuna’ drone startup Sagar Defence Engineering demonstrated this in his presence.
  • This ‘Varuna’ drone has been designed and developed by a startup and has the capacity to carry one person inside.

8. Henley Passport Index ranks India 87th globally out of 199 countries

  • The Henley Passport Index is a ranking of all the world’s 199 passports according to the number of destinations their holders can access without a prior visa.
  • India, along with Mauritius and Tajikistan, has been ranked 87th, with its passport providing access to 67 countries.
  • Japan has taken the top spot in the Henley Passport Index for 2022, and Afghanistan is the least.

9. Gautam Adani overtakes Bill Gates to become 4th richest in the world

  • Indian businessman Gautam Adani has left behind Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates to become the world’s fourth richest person, according to Forbes’ Real -Time Billionaires List.
  • At $90 billion, fellow countryman Mukesh Ambani ranks 10th on the list.
  • Tesla and SpaceX founder Elon Musk tops the list with $235.8 billion.

10. Pradhan Mantri Vaya Vandana Yojana completes five years

  • Pradhan Mantri Vaya Vandana Yojana has completed in five years on 21st July 2022.
  • The scheme was formally launched on this day in 2017.
  • The scheme is a social security scheme for senior citizens intended to give an assured minimum pension to them based on an assured return on the purchase price or subscription amount.

11. Sheikh Mohammed Sabah Al Salem is now Kuwait’s Prime Minister

  • Kuwait’s Emir Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah issued a decree to appoint Sheikh Mohammed Sabah Al Salem as a new Prime Minister.
  • The appointment of a new PM comes three months after former Prime Minister Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Hamad Al-Sabah submitted his resignation.

12. Egypt’s Seif Ahmed appointed as acting FIH president following Narinder Batra’s resignation

  • Officially accepted the resignation of Dr Narinder Dhruv Batra, Unanimously appointed FIH EB Member and President of the African Hockey Federation Seif Ahmed (Egypt) as Acting President until the next Presidential elections,” the FIH said.
  • FIH = Fédération Internationale de Hockey.
  • The FIH said that a permanent successor to Batra is due to be elected in November.

13. Union Cabinet approves signing of MoU in field of Judicial Cooperation between India and Maldives

  • The Union Cabinet has approved the signing of Memorandum of Understanding in the field of Judicial Cooperation between India and Judicial Service Commission of Maldives.
  • This is the eighth MoU signed between India and other countries in the field of Judicial Cooperation.

    • President: Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.
    • Currency: Maldivian Rufiyaa.

14. NITI Aayog Releases Report on Digital Banks; Proposes a Licensing and Regulatory Regime for India

  • Government think tank NITI Aayog released its report on digital banks, offering a template and roadmap for licensing and regulatory regime for India.
  • The report focuses on avoiding any regulatory or policy arbitrage and offers a level playing field to incumbents as well as competitors.

15. CM Dhami unveils ‘Beyond The Misty Veil, Temple Tales of Uttarakhand’ by retd IAS officer

  • Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has unveiled a book titled “Beyond The Misty Veil, Temple Tales of Uttarakhand” written by retired senior IAS officer, Aradhana Johri.
  • In her book, Johri talks about several shrines in Uttarakhand and says that her book will be regarded as an authentic introduction to the sacred shrines of Uttarakhand.

16. RBI signs its renewed statement of commitment to the FX Global Code

  • The Reserve Bank of India has signed its renewed Statement of Commitment (SoC) to the FX Global Code, which is a compilation of best market practices, applicable to the wholesale foreign exchange market participants covering sell-side, buy-side and financial intermediaries.
