1. J&K to host G20 meetings in 2023; five-member coordination panel constituted
- Jammu and Kashmir will host the 2023 meetings of the G20, an influential group of the world’s major economies.
- The government of the union territory set up a five-member high-level committee for overall coordination.
- India will hold the G-20 presidency from December 1, 2022, and convene the first G20 leaders’ summit in 2023.
- India would be a member of the G20 Troika from December 1, 2021, to November 30, 2024.
2. The digital platform ‘Campus Power’ for students launched by ICICI bank
- ICICI Bank launched a digital platform called ‘Campus Power’ to help students aspiring to pursue higher education in India and abroad.
- The platform caters to the varied needs of the entire student ecosystem comprising students, parents, and institutes.
- The new Campus Power platform assists users to explore financial products matching their needs.
3. India jump two places to 104 in FIFA ranking
- In the overall rankings, Brazil remained on top, three months after taking the top spot from Belgium 2nd.
- Argentina jumped one place to third at the expense of France 4th who paid the price for four winless games in the UEFA Nations League.England, Spain, Italy, Netherlands, Portugal and Denmark complete the top-10.
- The next FIFA world ranking will be out on August 25.
- The Blue Tigers are placed just below New Zealand (103rd).
4. PM Modi inaugurates Vanijya Bhawan and launches NIRYAT portal in Delhi
- Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated “Vanijya Bhawan”, a new premises of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry in Delhi and also launched a new portal — NIRYAT (National Import-Export Record for Yearly Analysis of Trade) which will provide a one-stop platform for stakeholders to get all necessary information related to India’s foreign trade.
5. Citizen’s initiative declares monkeypox outbreak a ‘pandemic’, urges WHO action
- The World Health Network (WHN) – an independent coalition of scientists formed in response to the Covid-19 threat – said it considered the monkeypox outbreak a ‘pandemic’ and urged the World Health Organization (WHO) to make such a formal declaration.
- The WHN pointed to over 3,500 confirmed monkeypox cases in 58 countries and said the outbreak is expanding rapidly.
6. Centre mandates 3-yr health insurance plan for surrogate mothers
- According to the new surrogacy rules, the intending couples will need to purchase a general health insurance cover in favour of a surrogate mother for a period of 36 months from an insurance company or an agent recognized by IRDAI for an amount which is sufficient to cover all expenses for all complications arising out of pregnancy and postpartum delivery complications.
7. Former foreign secretary Shyam Saran elected new president of India International Centre
- Shyam Saran, a former Foreign Secretary and Prime Minister’s Special Envoy for Nuclear Affairs and Climate Change has taken over as the President of India International Centre.
- He succeeds N N Vohra and will take charge on June 23.
- His first book “How India Sees the World” was published in 2017.
- He has recently published his second book “How China Sees India and the World”.
- India International Centre is located in Delhi.
8. Karnataka Bank launches video-based customer identification process for account opening
- Karnataka Bank has launched an online savings bank (SB) account opening facility through ‘Video-based Customer Identification Process (V-CIP)’.
- The facility, enabled in the corporate website of the bank, empowers prospective customers to open an SB account through an online process and complete KYC verification through a video call at their place of convenience.

9. Indian Oil unveils indoor solar cooking stove ‘Surya Nutan’
- Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) has unveiled Surya Nutan, a solar cooking system developed indigenously.
- The three models, priced in the range of Rs 12,000 and Rs 23,000, are kitchen connected and rechargeable.
- Surya Nutan will “minimize radiative and conductive heat losses”.
- It was unveiled in the presence of Union Minister for Petroleum & Natural Gas Hardeep Singh Puri.

10. Cyclist Ronaldo scripts history, becomes first Indian to win silver in Asian championships
- Ronaldo Singh scripted history as he became the first Indian cyclist to win a silver in a continental tournament in the senior category by finishing second in the sprint event on the concluding day of the Asian Track Championship in New Delhi.
- The Indian cycling team finished fifth with 23 medals (2 Gold, 6 Silver, 15 Bronze).
11. Weightlifter Gurunaidu Sanapathi becomes Youth World Champion
- Gurunaidu Sanapathi has become India’s first weightlifter to win a gold at the IWF Youth World Championships in Leon, Mexico.
- The 16-year-old claimed the yellow metal with a total effort of 230kg (104 kg + 126 kg) in the boy’s 55 kg event.
- Besides Sanapathi, compatriot Soumya S. Dalvi bagged the bronze.
12. Odisha’s Shreya Lenka becomes India’s first K-pop star, joins Blackswan
- Shreya Lenka, an 18-year-old girl from Odisha’s Rourkela, has been selected as the fifth member of popular South Korean pop band Blackswan formed by DR Music.
- Lenka, who goes by stage name Sriya, will be joining the original members of the girl group – Youngheun, Fatou, Judy and Leia – along with Gabriela Dalcin (Gabi) from Brazil as the sixth member.
- She was selected after participating in the six-month-long global auditions.

- An Indian government delegation led by Chief Economic Advisor V. Anantha Nageswaran arrived to assess Sri Lanka’s economic conditions and examine whether another tranche of financial package needs to be disbursed to the island nation.

- Issuers are given more time for OTP – based activation, ensuring credit limit is not breached without the cardholder’s consent.

- South Indian Bank has launched a new portal called ‘SIB TF Online’ for its corporate EXIM customers.
- The portal facilitates a platform for trade-related payments to foreign entities remotely.
- The customer can initiate the payment request over SIB TF Online after uploading the relevant supporting documents for the transaction.

16. Indian Navy inks pact with DG Shipping for transition of Indian navy personnel into merchant navy
- A MoU has been signed between the Indian Navy & Directorate General of Shipping to facilitate transition of Indian Navy personnel into the merchant navy.
- Under the provisions of the pact, the DG Shipping has envisioned certification of Indian Navy personnel in accordance with the International STCW (Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers) conventions.
17. Assam becomes the 36th State to implement One Nation One Ration Card scheme
- Assam has become the 36th State to implement the One Nation One Ration Card (ONORC) scheme.
- With this, the ONORC plan is successfully implemented in all 36 states, and Union Territories, making food security portable throughout the country.
- ONORC is a scheme that will nationalise a beneficiary’s ration card by a process called Aadhaar Seeding.
18. Indian women’s Wrestling team wins Under-17 Asian Championship with total of eight gold in Kyrgyzstan
- Indian women’s Wrestling claimed the Under-17 Asian Championship title with a total of eight gold at Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan.
- India lifted the title with a total of 235 points from eight golds, one silver and one bronze.
- Japan had to be content with the runners-up trophy with 143 points and Mongolia finished third with 138 points.

20. GE Steam Power inks USD 165 mn pact to supply 3 nuclear steam turbines to BHEL
- GE Steam Power has signed a USD 165 million contract with BHEL for the supply of three nuclear steam turbines out of six units for NPCIL’s domestic nuclear program – phase 1 being developed at Gorakhpur, Haryana (units – 1 to 4 (GHAVP)) and Kaiga (Kaiga-5&6) Karnataka.
- Today, GE’s steam turbine technology operates in 50 percent of the world’s nuclear power plants.
