- Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel appointed senior BJP leader Ramapati Shastri as the pro-tem speaker of the state Legislative Assembly.
- Shastri, who is a BJP MLA from Mankapur in Gonda district, will administer the oath to newly elected legislators.
2. Former Chief Justice of India R.C. Lahoti dies at 81
- Former Chief Justice of India Ramesh Chandra Lahoti passed away.
- He was 81 years old.
- Justice Lahoti was appointed as the 35th chief justice of India on June 1, 2004.
- He retired on November 1, 2005.
- Born on November 1, 1940, he joined the Bar in Guna district in 1960 and enrolled as an advocate in 1962.
3. Abel prize for 2022 goes to American mathematician Dennis P. Sullivan
- The Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters has awarded the Abel prize for the year 2022 to American Mathematician Dennis Parnell Sullivan.
- One of Abel prize winner Dennis Parnell Sullivan’s key breakthroughs is in developing a new way of understanding rational homotopy theory, a subfield of algebraic topology.

- Australia’s world number one Ashleigh Barty announced her retirement from tennis aged just 25.
- Barty has been the No.1-ranked WTA player for 114 consecutive weeks and counting.
- Barty is retiring after winning three major singles titles on three different surfaces – the 2019 French Open, the 2021 Wimbledon and, back in January, the Australian Open.

10. NABARD sanctions highest allocation of Rs 4,013cr to Odisha
- The National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) has sanctioned Rs. 4,013 crore to the Odisha government during the financial year 2021-22 under the Rural Infrastructure Development Fund (RIDF).
- This financial allocation is highest in the country under RIDF during the financial year.
11. Kerala Becomes First State To Introduce Carbon-Neutral Farming
- Kerala is set to become the first state in the country to implement carbon-neutral agricultural practices in selected places, for which the government has budgeted 6 crores in the 2022-23 fiscal year.
- Carbon-neutral farming will be introduced at 13 farms under the Agriculture Department and tribal regions in the first phase.

- DBS Bank India has announced the launch of its Green Deposit Programme for corporate clients providing a simple way for companies to support environmentally-friendly projects or avenues.

13. Coal India Plans to Produce 1 Billion-Ton By 2023-24
- Coal India Limited, the largest coal producer in the world has planned to increase all India coal production to the level of 1 BT by 2023-24 and coal production by Coal India Limited to 1 BT by 2024-25 has been prepared.
- As per the draft report of Niti Aayog, the coal demand is expected to remain in the range of 1,192-1,325 million tonnes by 2030.
