1. Minister of State for Culture & External Affairs Meenakshi Lekhi participated in the 7th BRICS Culture Ministers’ Meeting
- Discussion was held for advancement and expansion of cultural activities amongst BRICS countries under the theme “Establishing a Cultural Partnership Featuring Inclusiveness and Mutual Learning among BRICS”.
- The meeting on 24 May 2022 was hosted by the People’s Republic of China through video conference with participation from all BRICS Member Nations.
2. Health Secretary appointed as chairperson of Committee B at 75th World Health Assembly
- Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan has been appointed as the chairperson of the Committee B at the 75th World Health Assembly (WHA).
- Each year, the World Health Assembly has a long and complex list of health challenges and responses to review and the Assembly functions through two committees.

3. President Kovind to inaugurate first-ever two-day national conference of woman legislators in Thiruvananthapuram
- The President will inaugurate the first-ever two-day national conference of woman legislators at the Legislature Complex in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala.
- The programme is being organized as part of the ‘Azadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav’ to coincide with the 75th Anniversary of Independence.

4. UAE becomes first Gulf state to record case of monkeypox
- The United Arab Emirates has become the first Gulf state to record a case of monkeypox.
- Outbreaks of the virus have been found in Europe, Australia and America.
- The symptoms often include a fever and rash – but the infection is usually mild.
- Monkeypox is a viral zoonosis (a virus transmitted to humans from animals) with symptoms similar to those seen in the past in small pox.
5. MeitY holds brainstorming session on Digital India BHASHINI with Researchers, Start-ups
- The Ministry of Electronics and IT conducted a brainstorming session with Researchers and Start-ups.
- The session was aimed to shape strategy for Digital India BHASHINI, which is India’s Artificial Intelligence (AI) led language translation platform.

6. RBI Sets Stage For Card-Less Cash Withdrawals Across All ATMs
- “All banks, ATM networks and WLAOs may provide the option of ICCW at their ATMs.
- NPCI has been advised to facilitate Unified Payments Interface (UPI) integration with all banks and ATM networks,”
- Customers will be able to authorise transactions at ATMs through UPI, while the settlement of these transactions at the back-end will happen through the National Financial Switch.
7. Nobel winner Jose Ramos-Horta sworn in as East Timor president
- Former independence fighter and Nobel Peace Prize laureate Jose Ramos-Horta was sworn in as president of East Timor ahead of celebrations marking the 20th anniversary of independence for Asia’s youngest country.

- India’s largest private sector bank, HDFC Bank partnered with Retailio announced the launch of a new range of co-branded credit cards primarily targeted at chemists and pharmacies in the merchant segment.

- The partnership is likely to cover over 1.4 lakh merchants in the first phase of its roll-out.

- Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL), the maharatna steelmaking public sector unit, is celebrating the company’s fifty years of incorporation this year in 2022.

15. Latest SEBI Circular Introduces A New Passive ELSS Scheme category
- The securities market regulator, SEBI came out with a circular on May 23 on ‘Development of Passive Funds’ covering a gamut of issues related to ETFs (exchange traded funds) and index funds.
- Notably, the circular has introduced a new category of mutual fund schemes – Passive ELSS (equity linked savings scheme).
