1. NDDB’s subsidiary for manure management – launched by Parshottam Rupala

  • Union Minister of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying Mr Parshottam Rupala formally launched the NDDB MRIDA Limited, a wholly-owned subsidiary company of National Dairy Development Board (NDDB), to carry forward manure management initiatives across the nation.

2. The 2nd Indian Indermit Gill appointed as Chief Economist of World Bank

  • The World Bank has appointed Indian national Indermit Gill as its Chief Economist and Senior Vice President for Development Economics.
  • Gill will succeed American economist Carmen Reinhart in the role and his appointment will be effective September 1, 2022.
  • Gill is currently Vice President for Equitable Growth, Finance, and Institutions.

3.  For Palestine refugees India contributes USD 2.5 million to UNRWA

  • Director of the West Asia and North Africa Division of the Indian Ministry of External Affairs, Sunil Kumar presented the cheque of USD 2.5 million to the UNRWA Director of Partnerships of the Department of External Relations, Karim Amer in a signing ceremony at UNRWA headquarters in East Jerusalem.

4. Ashishkumar Chauhan quits as BSE CEO

  • The BSE has appointed an executive management committee (EMC) comprising chief regulatory officer Neeraj Kulshrestha, chief financial officer Nayan Mehta, chief information officer Kersi Tavadia, chief business officer Sameer Patil and chief of trading operations Girish Joshi to run the exchange till the appointment of Chauhan’s successor.
  • He was named the new CEO of NSE Ltd., recently.

5. Mastercard set to replace Paytm as title sponsor for all BCCI matches in India

  • Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI)’s long-standing title sponsor for international cricket at home – Paytm is backing out from the deal and will be replaced by Mastercard.
  • Paytm held the rights till the end of 2023.
  • The tripartite deal is similar to how Byju’s took over BCCI jersey rights from Oppo.

6. Music composer AR Rahman unveils anthem ‘Vanakkam Chennai’ for 44th International Chess Olympiad

  • Grammy and Oscar-winning music composer AR Rahman has come up with the ‘Vanakkam Chennai’ (Welcome Anthem) for the upcoming International Chess Olympiad, 2022.
  • This year, the Fédération Internationale des Échecs will organise the 44th International Chess Olympiad in Chennai, the capital of Tamil Nadu.

7. TRAI tests 5G readiness in Bhopal, Delhi Airport, Kandla Port, Bengaluru Metro and Kandla port

  • Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) initiated pilots of 5G readiness across various locations in India.
  • TRAI used 5G small cells in street furniture in Bhopal Smart City, GMR International Airport New Delhi, Deendayal Port Kandla & Namma Metro Bengaluru.
  • Telecom companies Bharti Airtel, Reliance Jio, Vodafoneldea, and BSNL are participating in these pilots.

8. India, Six Others Vote Against human rights groups

  • India along with six others has voted against a draft resolution presented by the US that recommended six human rights groups, which have been blocked for years in the United Nations’ NGO Committee, be granted special consultative status at the UN Economic and Social Council.
  • The Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) is a 54-member group.

9. Madurai to Varanasi 3rd Bharat Gaurav tourist train Launched

  • Continuing the theme-based tourism service, the third Bharat Gaurav train to be operated by a private player was launched from Madurai to Varanasi on 23 July, covering several religious and tourist destinations.
  • The 14-coach train with pantry, AC, and sleeper facilities will be operated by Travel Times Private Limited, a private service provider for tourists.

10. Altigreen partners with ISI Kolkata for improving energy efficiency of electric vehicles

  • Bangalore-based electric vehicle (EV) manufacturing company Altigreen has joined hands with the Centre for Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning (CAIML) of Indian Statistical Institute (ISI) Kolkata for improving the energy efficiency of EVs using machine learning techniques.

11. SAMARTH in collaboration with NTPC organizes workshop on Biomass use in thermal power plants

  • National Mission on the use of Biomass in Thermal Power Plants (SAMARTH) collaborated with NTPC and organized a one-day workshop in Chandigarh, on ex-Situ utilization of agricultural residue for co-firing in thermal power plants.
  • The aim of the one-day workshop was to promote and facilitate ex-situ utilization of agri-residue.

12. 1.16 lakh km of roads, mostly rural, added to the road network in 201 ..

  • India has added nearly 1.16 lakh kilometres to its road network in 2018-19 to take the total length to nearly 63.32 lakh km, with a major focus on the development of rural roads.
  • India has also increased the length of the surfaced road network by 1.64 lakh km during 2018-19.

13. A migratory monarch butterfly is now endangered.

  • The migratory monarch butterfly (Danaus plexippus), known for its spectacular annual journey of up to 4,000 kilometres across the Americas, has entered the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species as Endangered, threatened by habitat destruction and climate change.

14. Assam CM launches scheme for welfare of native weavers

  • Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has launched ‘Swanirbhar Naari’, a scheme to empower indigenous weavers in Assam’s Guwahati.
  • Under the ‘Swanirbhar Naari’ scheme, the state government will procure handloom items directly from the indigenous weavers via a web portal.

15. Youth in India 2022 report says over-30s to outnumber ‘young’ by 2036

  • The ‘Youth in India 2022’ report released by the ministry of statistics and programme implementation.
  • The Proportion of youth to the total population of the country had increased from 26.6% in 1991 to 27.9% in 2016 and then declined, and would reach 22.7% by 2036.
  • The population pyramid of India will undergo a shift with the number of the elderly steadily rising.
