1. Indian Navy to bid farewell to two ships at Naval Dockyard, Mumbai
- The Indian Navy will bid farewell to its two ships INS Nishank and INS Akshay, at Naval Dockyard in Mumbai.
- Both the ships will be decommissioned at Naval Dockyard after 32 years of being at the forefront of safeguarding the maritime interests of the nation.
2. India and Sweden host Industry Transition Dialogue in Stockholm
- India and Sweden hosted the Industry Transition Dialogue in Stockholm, as a part of their joint initiative i.e. Leadership for Industry Transition (LeadIT).
- The LeadIT initiative lays specific focus on hard to abate sectors that are key stakeholders in the global climate action and require specific interventions.
3. Former MD of SBI Ashwani Bhatia takes charge as whole-time member at SEBI
- Ashwani Bhatia took charge as a whole time member (WTM) at market regulator Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI).
- Bhatia was previously the managing director of state-owned State Bank of India (SBI).
- After Bhatia’s joining, Sebi now has three WTMs.
- Sebi’s current chairperson Madhabi Puri Buch.
4. Govt elevates top IPS officer SL Thaosen as SSB chief, Zulfiquar Hasan named new DG BCAS
- Senior IPS officers Zulfiquar Hasan and S L Thaosen have been appointed as the new directors general of the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) and the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) respectively.
- Hasan has been appointed for a tenure up to his superannuation on 31.10.2024.
- Thaosen’s order said he has been appointed as the DG, SSB up to 30.11.2023.
5. During 24th WMCC meeting India, China reviews situation along Line of Actual Control
- The 24th meeting of the Working Mechanism for Consultation and Coordination on India-China Border Affairs (WMCC) was held recently.
- The Indian delegation was led by the Additional Secretary (East Asia) from the Ministry of External Affairs.
- The Director-General of the Boundary and Oceanic Department of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs led the Chinese delegation.
6. NTPC Issued Biodiversity Policy for Conservation & Restoration of Biodiversity
- NTPC Ltd, India’s largest integrated energy producer, has issued a new Biodiversity Policy 2022 to establish a broad vision and guiding principles for biodiversity conservation, restoration, and enhancement.
- This Biodiversity Policy is an essential component of the NTPC Environmental Policy.
- Its goals are consistent with environmental and sustainability policies.
7. Sergio Perez wins Monaco Grand Prix
- Red Bull’s Sergio Perez registered his first Formula One win of the season in the rain-marred Monaco Grand Prix.
- He finished ahead of Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz and teammate Max Verstappen.
- Meanwhile, it was Perez’s third career win which also makes him the most successful Mexican driver in F1.
8. BOB Financial and HPCL launch co-branded contactless RuPay Credit Card
- BOB Financial and Hindustan Petroleum (HPCL) in partnership with National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), have announced the launch of HPCL BoB co-branded contactless RuPay Credit Card.
- The card comes with various features including rewards for spending on utilities, grocery and departmental stores.
- BOB Financial is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Bank of Baroda.
9. The ALH MK III aircraft, built by INAS 325, commissioned by Indian Navy
- Indian Naval Air Squadron (INAS) 325, operating the indigenously built ALH MK III aircraft, was commissioned into the Indian Navy by Lieutenant General Ajai Singh, AVSM, Commander-in-Chief, Andaman & Nicobar at an impressive ceremony held at INS Utkrosh, Port Blair.
- The unit is the second ALH MK III Squadron commissioned into the Indian Navy.
10. India’s economic growth estimated at 8.7% in FY22, Q4 GDP slows to 4.1%
- India’s GDP grew by 4.1% in the fourth quarter of FY22.
- Meanwhile, the overall growth recorded for the financial year 2021-22 is estimated at 8.7% as against the contraction of 6.6% in FY21.
- The estimate of 8.7% for FY22 is the highest in 22 years in terms of back series data.
- The nominal GDP grew by 19.5% in the financial year 2021-22.
- GVA for FY22 came in at 8.1% compared to a contraction of 4.8% in the preceding fiscal.
11. India Core Sector Output Grows 8.4% In April
- The combined Index of Eight Core Industries stood at 143.2 in April 2022, which is an increase of 8.4 per cent (provisional) as compared to the Index of April 2021.
- The production of Coal, Electricity, Refinery Products, Fertilizers, Cement and Natural Gas industries increased in April 2022 over the corresponding period of last year.
12. Retired senior executive of SBI joins NARCL as MD CEO
- Former State Bank of India executive Natarajan Sundar has joined National Assets Reconstruction Company Ltd (NARCL) as managing director and CEO.
- Karnam Sekar, Malvika Sinha named independent directors.
- NARCL Board now has 5 nominees from shareholder banks.
13. J&K National Panthers Party Chief Bhim Singh passes away
- National Panthers Party Chief Professor Bhim Singh passed away at his residence in Jammu after a prolonged illness, officials said.
- He was 80.
- Singh was the founder and Chief Patron of the Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers Party (JKNPP), a political organisation which seeks “ultimate revolution”, based in the Indian union territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
14. Centre to clear GST compensation dues of states, releases Rs. 86,912
- The central government has released Rs 86,912 crore to state governments, clearing all the Goods and Services Tax (GST) compensation due to them.
- The Centre made the full payment despite only about Rs 25,000 crore being available in the GST compensation fund.
- The balance money has been paid from the Centre’s own resources pending collection of cess.
15. Jharkhand to get WHO award for tobacco control
- Recognising its efforts in controlling tobacco consumption, the World Health Organization (WHO) has selected Jharkhand for the World No Tobacco Day (WNTD) Award-2022.
- NTCP was launched in Jharkhand in 2012 when the tobacco prevalence rate in the State was 51.1 per cent, of which 48 per cent were smokeless users, according to the Global Adult Tobacco Survey (GATS)-1 report.
