1. Assam-Meghalaya sign pact to end border dispute in 6 contested areas
- Assam and Meghalaya decided to end their five-decade-old border dispute in six of the 12 contested locations that often raised tensions between the two states.
- The agreement was signed in the presence of Union Home minister Amit Shah by Chief Ministers of Assam and Meghalaya Himanta Biswa Sarma and Conrad Sangma respectively.
2. Banks Report Frauds Worth Rs 34,000 Crore In April-December 2021: RBI
- A total of 27 scheduled commercial banks and financial institutions have reported 96 cases of fraud, involving a total amount of Rs 34,097 crore in the nine months ended December.
- While Punjab National Bank recorded the highest value of frauds worth Rs 4,820 crore, Bank of India recorded the highest number of frauds at 13, according to data from the Reserve Bank of India.

3. Grandmaster Arjun Erigaisi wins Delhi International Open Chess tournament
- Arjun Erigaisi came up with another inspired effort to annex the 19th Delhi International Open Chess tournament that concluded at the Tivoli Gardens in New Delhi.

4. Sri Lanka-India ink MoUs for defence, economic, education, religious cooperation
- Tightening the defence, economic, education, religious and cultural ties, multiple agreements were inked on the first day of Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar’s visit to Sri Lanka.
- On the security front, an MoU was signed to establish a Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) with a grant of $6 million from India.
5. Varnika ink manufacturing facility established by RBI in Mysuru, Karnataka
- Reserve Bank of India Governor Shaktikanta Das dedicated to the nation the Varnika ink manufacturing facility in Mysore, Karnataka.
- Varnika has been set up by Bharatiya Reserve Bank Note Mudran (BRBNMPL), a wholly owned subsidiary of RBI.
- BRBNMPL has set up Varnika with an annual ink manufacturing capacity of 1,500 MT to enhance the security of banknotes.
6. Second P-81 aircraft squadron commissioned into Indian Navy
- Indian Naval Air Squadron 316, the second squadron of P-8I maritime reconnaissance aircraft – which were also deployed during the peak of India – China dispute in Ladakh region in 2020 – was commissioned into the Indian Navy.
- The ceremony took place at INS Hansa, Goa.
- The squadron, christened as ‘The Condors’.
7. SIDBI, Meghalaya Govt to develop MSME ecosystem
- The Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI) has joined hands with the Meghalaya government to develop an ecosystem for small and medium businesses.
- SIDBI has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Meghalaya Infrastructure Development and Finance Corporation Ltd (MiDFC) to develop the MSME ecosystem in the state.
8. ONDC to help small retailers serve customers with modern ways of delivery: Piyush Goyal
- The Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC) will ensure that small retailers get an equal opportunity to engage with big firms, protect their businesses and serve customers with modern ways of delivery system, Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal said.
- ONDC received its certificate of incorporation as a private sector non-profit company on December 31, 2021.
9. NITI Aayog and FAO Launch Book Titled Indian Agriculture towards 2030
- Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare (MoA&FW) Shri Narendra Singh Tomar today released a book titled Indian Agriculture towards 2030: Pathways for Enhancing Farmers’ Income, Nutritional Security and Sustainable Food and Farm Systems, at an event organized by NITI Aayog and the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations.

- Robert Abela has been sworn in for his second tenure as Malta’s prime minister.
