1. 10 more Indian wetlands sites get Ramsar tag, number rises to 64
- The 10 new sites — six in Tamil Nadu and one each in Goa, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh and Odisha.
- The sites are Koothankulam Bird Sanctuary, Gulf of Mannar Marine Biosphere Reserve, Vembannur Wetland Complex, Vellode Bird Sanctuary, Vedanthangal Bird Sanctuary and Udhayamarthandapuram Bird Sanctuary, all in Tamil Nadu.
- Satkosia Gorge in Odisha, Nanda Lake in Goa, Ranganathittu Bird Sanctuary in Karnataka, and Sirpur Wetland in Madhya Pradesh.
- Ramsar wetlands now comprise around 10% of the total wetland area in the country.

2. Coromandel Intl buys 45% equity in Senegal’s rock phosphate miner BMCC
- Coromandel International, India’s leading phosphatic fertiliser player, has formalised the acquisition of 45 per cent equity share in Baobab Mining and Chemicals Corporation (BMCC), a rock phosphate mining company based in Senegal.
- 10 lakh tonnes of Diammonium Phosphate (DAP) and Nitrogen-Phosphorus-Potassium (NPK) will be manufactured.
- The mining will be done in Senegal and production of DAP will be done in India.

3. Commonwealth Games: Indian Judoka Tulika Maan claims Silver; Tejaswin Shankar bags bronze in Men’s high jump
- Indian Judoka Tulika Maan claimed Silver medal in women’s 78 kg category after suffering a defeat against Scotland’s Sarah Adlington at the ongoing Commonwealth Games 2022 in Birmingham.
- This is India’s third medal in Judo at this Commonwealth Games.
- Indian weightlifter Gurdeep Singh bagged the bronze medal in the men’s 109-plus kg final with a combined weight of 390 kg.
4. India and US to hold mega military exercise in Uttarakhand’s Auli in October
- India and the US will conduct a fortnight-long mega military exercise in Uttarakhand’s Auli in October this year.
- The 18th edition of exercise “Yudh Abhyas” is scheduled to take place from October 14 to 31.
- The exercise is aimed at enhancing understanding, cooperation and interoperability between the two armies.
- In June 2016, the US designated India a “Major Defence Partner”.
- The last edition of the exercise took place in October last year in Alaska, USA.
5. Vodafone Idea names Ravinder Takkar as Chairman, Himanshu Kapania to step down
- Ravinder Takkar, the managing director (MD) and chief executive officer (CEO) of telecom operator Vodafone Idea Limited (Vi), will replace Himanshu Kapania as the telco’s new chairman.
- Last month, Vi had announced that its chief financial officer Akshaya Moondra would replace Takkar as the firm’s new CEO.

6. Bihar college astronomy lab on Unesco heritage list
- Unesco has added a 106-year-old astronomical observatory at Langat Singh College in Bihar’s Muzaffarpur on its list of important endangered heritage observatories of the world—raising hopes of reviving the neglected edifice that has little to show of its glorious past.
- Built in 1916, the 123-year old college is now affiliated to Bhim Rao Ambedkar Bihar University.

7. IISc signs MoU with Indian Navy for collaborative research
- The Indian Institute of Science (IISc) and the Indian Navy have signed an MoU to collaborate on aviation research and development, and to ramp up self-reliance efforts for the Navy in line with the goals of ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’.
- The MoU, signed, provides a formal basis for the Navy to interact with relevant faculty members at IISc and will promote joint research.

8. NASA releases first pieces of the multispectral maps of Mars
- Scientists released the first pieces of the multispectral maps made by the Compact Reconnaissance Imaging Spectrometer for Mars (CRISM), according to the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).
- NASA’s Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter (MRO) has been mapping minerals on the red planet for the last 16 years with the help of CRISM.

- 275 Persons with Disabilities (PwD) – employees of eight central oil and gas public enterprises -are participating in the 4th ONGC Para Games, being organized by Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC).

10. RBI’s financial inclusion index improved to 56.4 from 53.9 in the previous year
- The Reserve Bank of India’s composite financial inclusion index (FI-Index) capturing the extent of financial inclusion across the country rose to 56.4 in March 2022, showing growth across parameters.
- The index stood at 53.9 in March last year.
- It was at 43.4 for the period ending March 2017, showing rapid improvement in reach of financial services over the past five years.

- Suresh N. Patel was sworn in as the Central Vigilance Commissioner.
- He made and subscribed the oath of his office before President Droupadi Murmu at a ceremony held at Rashtrapati Bhavan.

13. Rs 9.98 lakh crore sanctioned to 16.67 crore loan accounts under Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana in 3 years
- As per the extant guidelines, any individual who is otherwise eligible to take loan and has a business plan for non-farm income generating activities in sectors such as manufacturing, trading, services and activities allied to agriculture and whose credit need is up to Rs.10 lakh is eligible to avail credit under the Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana (PMMY).

- PMMY is a scheme, launched by the Hon’ble Prime Minister on April 8, 2015 for providing loans upto 10 lakh to the non-corporate, non-farm small/micro enterprises.
- These loans are classified as MUDRA loans under PMMY.
- These loans are given by Commercial Banks, RRBs, Small Finance Banks, Cooperative Banks, MFIs and NBFCs.

- Asia’s wealthiest woman Yang Huiyan lost more than half of her wealth following China’s property crisis.

- The Ministry of MSME celebrated the landmark of 1 crore registrations on its Udyam Portal today.
- Following the adoption of the revised definition of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) on 26th June, 2020, which is based on investment in plant & machinery or equipment; and turnover, the Udyam Registration Portal was launched on 1st July, 2020.
16. CCI okays acquisition of 50.1% stake in Sanmina SCI India by Reliance Strategic Business Ventures
- The Competition Commission of India (CCI) granted its approval for the acquisition of a 50.1% stake of Sanmina-SCI India (SCIPL) by Reliance Strategic Business Ventures (RSBVL).
- RIL is a subsidiary of Reliance Industries.
- RSBVL’s principal activities are trading goods, holding strategic investment interests in businesses, and providing business support services.
17. Muslim Women’s Rights Day 2022 | August 1
- Muslim Women’s Rights Day is observed every year on the first of August to celebrate the enforcement of the law against the ‘Triple Talaq’ rule among Muslims.
- The Central Government of India on 01 August 2019, enacted a law against the Triple Talaq according to which Instant or Triple Talaq was declared a criminal offense.
- The new law was welcomed by all the women in India.
