1. IRDAI eases capital requirement for insurers to offer PMJJBY schemes
- In order to facilitate more participation of insurers under PMJJBY, Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI) has reduced the capital required to be held by insurers offering PMJJBY, by almost 50 per cent.
2. Stashfin introduces a credit line card for women

4. Kashmiri RJ receives UNICEF award for work during COVID-19 pandemic
- Radio Jockey (RJ) Umar Nisar, who hails from south Kashmir, has been awarded the ’01 Best Content Award’ and the Immunization Champion award by UNICEF at the annual Radio 4 Child 2022 Awards in Mumbai.
- RJ Umar is the only RJ from Jammu and Kashmir to be selected for this award.
5. PepsiCo to invest Rs 186cr on expanding its largest food plant in India
- PepsiCo India plans to expand its largest greenfield food manufacturing plant in Kosi Kalan, Mathura, Uttar Pradesh.
- The unit produces Lays potato chips.
- The plan entails a cost of Rs. 186 crore, taking the overall investment by the firm in UP to Rs 1,022 crore.

6. CCEA clears sale of govt’s 29.5% stake in Hindustan Zinc valued at ₹38,000 crore
- The development would give a push to the government’s disinvestment drive in the current financial year.

7. Punjab govt launches DSR portal to facilitate farmers
- Punjab chief minister Bhagwant Mann recently launched a portal to facilitate paddy farmers opting for the direct seeding of rice (DSR).
- The initiative will be instrumental in compiling data about each farmer who has opted for this water-saving technology besides ensuring payment of ₹1,500 per acre after verification of genuine beneficiaries.

- The Indian unit of Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi Corp said it has appointed founding member Alvin Tse as its general manager.

- Renowned Santoor maestro Pandit Bhajan Sopori passed away today in Gurugram.
- He was 74. He was suffering from colon cancer.
- He was former Director of Music at All India Radio and looked after Hindustani Classical Music.
- Along with Pandit Shiv Kumar Sharma, he is credited to have brought santoor, a lesser known Kashmiri instrument, into the global limelight.
10. Freedom fighter Anjalai Ponnusamy dies aged 102
- Freedom fighter Anjalai Ponnusamy, who fought for India’s independence from colonial Britain, died, aged 102.
- At the age of 21, Anjalai joined the Rani of Jhansi Regiment – the women’s regiment of the Indian National Army – in the hopes of discarding the yoke of British colonialism from the Indian people.
11. Delhi govt to name colonies & streets after Babasaheb Ambedkar
- Following the Central government’s guideline advising against the usage of the word ‘Harijan’, the Delhi government is set to replace the word ‘Harijan’ from names of colonies & streets and name them after B.R. Ambedkar instead.
- Delhi will be one of the first states in the country to curb the use of the word which many people claim is “offensive and derogatory”.
12. Cabinet allows procurement by cooperatives through GeM portal
- The Union Cabinet has approved a proposal to expand the mandate of Government e-Marketplace (GeM) by allowing procurement by cooperatives.
- Presently, the registration of cooperatives as buyers was not covered within the existing mandate of GeM.
- The decision was taken by the Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
13. Russia tests its latest hypersonic Zircon missile
- The Russian navy has conducted another test of a prospective hypersonic missile, a demonstration of the military’s long-range strike capability amid the fighting in Ukraine.
- The launch was the latest in a series of tests of Zircon, which is set to enter service later this year.
- Zircon is capable of flying at nine times the speed of sound and has a range of 1,000 km.

- The Meghalaya government key initiative of e-proposal system, part of Meghalaya Enterprise Architect has won a coveted UN Award- World Summit on the Information Society Forum (WSIS) prize at Geneva in Switzerland.
