1. RBI approves re-appointment of Murali M. Natrajan as Managing Director & CEO of DCB Bank
- Reserve Bank of India (RBI) approved the re-appointment of Murali M Natrajan as the Managing Director and CEO of the DCB bank for a further period of two years from April 29, 2022 to April 28, 2024.
- Last year, DCB Bank had acquired a minority equity stake of approximately 9 percent in Bengaluru-based non banking financial company Techfino Capital Private Limited (TCPL).
2. ADB projects India’s economy to grow by 7.5 per cent in FY23
- Asian Development Bank projected a seven per cent collective growth for South Asian economies in 2022 with the sub region’s largest economy India growing by 7.5 per cent in the current fiscal year before picking up to eight per cent the next year.
- Last week, rating agency ICRA slashed its growth forecast for FY23 to 7.2 percent from 8 percent predicted earlier.
3. Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying launches ‘One Health’ pilot project in Uttarakhand
- The Department of Animal Husbandry & Dairying (DAHD), Government of India has initiated the launch of a pilot project in the state of Uttarakhand to implement the One Health Framework by One Health Support Unit.
- The key objective of the Unit is to develop a national One Health roadmap based on the learnings of the pilot project implementation.
4. Andhra Pradesh Gets A New Map, Doubles Districts To 26
- Andhra Pradesh got a new administrative map, with the creation of 13 new districts, in a massive overhaul that the state government said will improve governance and delivery of services.
- The new districts are: (i) Parvathipuram Manyam, (ii) Alluri Seetharamaraju, (iii) Anakapalli, (iv) Kakinada, (v) Konaseema, (vi) Eluru, (vii) NTR, (viii) Palanadu, (ix) Bapatla, (x) Nandyala, (xi) Sri Satya Sai, (xii) Annamayya and (xiii) Tirupati.
5. Chhattisgarh tops states with lowest unemployment rate in country
- Chhattisgarh has been ranked first among states with the lowest unemployment rate in the country.
- According to the latest data released by the Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy (CMIE), Chhattisgarh has registered an unemployment rate of 0.6 per cent this March, which is the lowest so far.
- As per the data, Haryana has the highest unemployment rate.
6. 75th Santosh Trophy in Malappuram from April 16
- The 75th National Football Championship for Santosh Trophy will kick off on April 16 with a match between traditional powerhouses West Bengal and Punjab at the Kottappadi Stadium in Malappuram, Kerala.
- All the matches in the tournament are set to be held at two venues in Malappuram – Manjeri Payyanad Stadium and Kottappadi Stadium.
- The final will be held on May 2 at the Manjeri Payyanad.
7. ‘The Maverick Effect’: Book by Harish Mehta sheds light on the making of NASSCOM
- “The Maverick Effect”, tells the untold story of how in the 1970s and 80s a ‘band of dreamers’ joined hands to create NASSCOM and pave the way for the IT revolution in India.
- The book, touted to be an authoritative biography of the National Association of Software and Service Companies (NASSCOM), the apex body of software and IT service companies, is written by Harish Mehta.
- Harish Mehta, the co-founder and first elected Chairperson of NASSCOM.
8. Stand-Up India Scheme completes 6 years, loans over ₹30,160 Cr sanctioned to over 1,33,995 accounts
- The Stand Up India scheme was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 5th April 2016.
- The scheme was launched to encourage entrepreneurship at the grassroots level especially for promoting economic empowerment and employment generation among SC, ST and women entrepreneurs.
- In 2019 – 20, the Stand Up India scheme was extended till 2025.
9. Sebi constitutes committee to strengthen governance of market infrastructure institutions
- The Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) constituted an ad-hoc committee for reviewing and making recommendations for further strengthening of governance norms at Market Infrastructure Institutions (MIIs).
- The six-member committee will be chaired by G Mahalingam, former whole-time member of SEBI.
10. Tata Power commissions solar plant, India’s largest single-axis tracker system
- Tata Power arm Tata Power Renewables has commissioned a 300 MW solar plant in Dholera, Gujarat with the country’s largest single-axis solar tracker system.
- The project will generate 774 MUs annually.
- Along with this, it will reduce approximately 704340 MT/year of carbon emission.
- The installation entails 873012 numbers of Monocrystalline PV Modules.
11. India’s GDP to Grow 7.4% in 2022-23: FICCI Economic Outlook Survey
- The country’s gross domestic product (GDP) is expected to grow 7.4 per cent in the current financial year 2022-23, according to the FICCI Economic Outlook Survey.
- It forecasts the growth for agriculture and allied activities at 3.3 per cent, while for industry and services sectors at 5.9 per cent and 8.5 per cent, respectively, during the fiscal year.
12. Aarefa Johari awarded Chameli Devi Jain Award for Outstanding Woman Mediaperson 2021
- Mumbai-based journalist Aarefa Johari was picked as the winner of the Chameli Devi Jain Award for an Outstanding Woman Mediaperson 2021.
- Instituted in 1982, the annual Chameli Devi Jain Award is a prestigious recognition for women mediapersons in India who have reported on themes such as social development, politics, equity, gender justice, health, and war & conflict, etc.
13. New scheme to set up ‘Hobby Hubs’ in Delhi government schools in works
- A project to set up ‘Hobby Hubs’ in government schools in Delhi with after-school dance, music, arts and crafts activities during this new academic session is in the works.
- For the 2022 – 2023 academic session, this project will only be implemented in single shift government schools.
