1. CWG 2022: Dipika Pallikal-Saurav Ghosal win mixed doubles bronze in squash
- India’s Dipika Pallikal Karthik and Saurav Ghosal won the mixed doubles bronze medal at the Commonwealth Games 2022 in Birmingham, UK.
- They defeated Australian duo Donna Lobban and Cameron Pilley 2-0.
- Saurav Ghosal also clinched India’s first-ever medal (Bronze) in the singles category at the Commonwealth Games.
2. CWG 2022: Nikhat Zareen, Amit Panghal, Nitu Ghanghas, Eldhose Paul, Achanta Sharath, Sreeja Akula bag Gold medals
- Boxers Nikhat Zareen, Amit Panghal and Nitu Ghanghas grabbed Gold medals, while Eldhose Paul bagged yellow metal in triple jump.
- Sagar Ahlawat got Silver in the men’s 92 kg (Super Heavyweight) boxing category.
- He lost by unanimous decision to Delicious Orie of England in the final.
- In Table Tennis, the mixed doubles duo of Achanta Sharath Kamal and Sreeja Akula bagged the gold.
3. Charles Drew, an US Navy Ship arrives in India for repairs for first time ever, major boost to ‘Make in India’ initiative
- Adding a new dimension to the burgeoning Indo-US strategic partnership, US Navy Ship (USNS) Charles Drew arrived at L&T’s Shipyard at Kattupalli, Chennai for undertaking repairs and allied services.
- This is the first ever repair of a US Navy ship in India.
- This will give a huge boost to ‘Make in India’ & ‘Aatmanirbharta’ in the Defence sector.
- Make in India is an initiative launched in 2014 by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
4. Sharath Kamal, Sreeja Akula win gold in table tennis mixed doubles at CWG 2022
- India’s Sharath Kamal and Sreeja Akula defeated Malayasia’s Javen Choong and Karen Lyne 3-1 to win the Commonwealth Games 2022 mixed table tennis gold medal in Birmingham.
- Earlier in the tournament, India’s men’s team comprising the seasoned Sharath, G Sathiyan, Harmeet Desai and Sanil Shetty had won the gold medal after beating Singapore 3-1 in the final.
5. Uttar Pradesh Govt Plans to Double Farmers’ Income under ‘Panchamrut Yojana’
- The Uttar Pradesh government announced that Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s ‘Panchamrut Yojana’ will aid in doubling farmers’ income through the implementation of cost-effective technical measures and the promotion of co-cropping.
- The Panchamrut scheme aims to reduce sugarcane production costs while increasing productivity and land fertility through five techniques.

6. Federal Bank becomes India’s 1st bank to list Payment Gateway on new tax platform
- Kerala-based Federal Bank has become the first bank to list its Payment Gateway platform on the TIN 2.0 platform of the Income Tax Department.
- The TIN 2.0 platform went live on July 1 this year and the “Payment Gateway” has been enabled, providing one more payment option to taxpayers, who can now make their payments with ease, using modes such as Credit/Debit Card, UPI etc.

7. NHA partners with QCI to accredit health solutions integrated with Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission
- The National Health Authority (NHA) has joined hands with the Quality Council of India (QCI) for six months to accredit and rate the Health Management Information System (HMIS) and Laboratory Information Management System (LMIS) solutions that have been integrated with the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM).
- What about ABDM?
- The Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM) aims to develop the backbone necessary to support the integrated digital health infrastructure of the country.
- It will bridge the existing gap amongst different stakeholders of the Healthcare ecosystem through digital highways.
8. West Bengal to get 7 new districts, announces CM Mamata Banerjee
- The six of the seven new districts that were announced are — Sunderban, Ichhemati, Ranaghat, Bishnupur, Jangipur, and Behrampur.
- One district will be named in Basirhat.
- As per Census 2011 figures, almost 4 million people lived in each of West Bengal’s 23 districts on average — among the highest in the country.
- Total number of districts will be now 30.
9. Chevalier award for Kalachuvadu Kannan
- The French government has announced that it would confer the Chevalier de l’Ordre National du Mérite, the Knight of the Order of the Merit, on Kannan Sundaram, publisher of Kalachuvadu, for his contribution to the publishing collaboration between India and France.
- A ceremony to confer the award will be organised in New Delhi at the residence of the French Ambassador.
10. Lumpy skin disease spreading among cattle in Rajasthan
- Lumpy disease is spreading rapidly in Rajasthan and more than eight thousand cattles have died so far.
- More than one lakh 60 thousand cattles have been infected with lumpy skin disease in the state.
- Out of these, about 54 thousand cattles have been recovered.
- The infection has spread in 17 districts of the state.
- What is Lumpy skin disease?
- Lumpy Skin Disease (LSD) disease is caused by a virus called the Capripoxvirus and is related to the goat pox and sheep pox virus family.
- It infects cattle and water buffalo through blood-feeding insects.
- Appearance of circular, firm nodes on the animal’s hide or skin are the physical signs of infection.
11. Jagdeep Dhankhar is now 14th Vice President of India
- West Bengal Governor and National Democratic Alliance (NDA) candidate Jagdeep Dhankhar was elected as India’s 14th Vice-President.
- Dhankhar will take oath of office on August 11.
- He will be appointed the ex-officio Chairman of the Rajya Sabha. Dhankhar received 528 votes defeating the opposition’s candidate, Margaret Alva, who got 182 votes.
12. Jaismine Lamboria wins maiden Commonwealth Games bronze medal
- Indian boxer Jaismine Lamboria secured a bronze medal after losing in the women’s lightweight semi-finals at CWG 2022, in Birmingham.
- She went down fighting in the women’s lightweight (60kg) semi-finals, losing to England’s Gemma Paige Richardson.
13. HDFC raises $1.1 bn ‘social loan’ for financing affordable housing segment
- HDFC has secured the world’s biggest social loan, a $1.1 billion facility to fund affordable residences, underscoring potential for sustainability-linked financing.
- This is India’s largest social financing issuance, the largest social loan globally, the first social External Commercial Borrowings (ECB) loan out of India and the largest ECB loan deal from a Housing Finance Company NBFC in India.
