Japan’s former prime minister Shinzo Abe has died after being shot while campaigning for a parliamentary election in the Nara region. A man opened fire on Abe, from behind. Abe was 67 years of age.

- A 41 year old man suspected of carrying out the shooting had been arrested.
- Name of the shooter is Tetsuya Yamagami.
- Yamagami is a former member of the Japanese Maritime Self-Defense Force.
- Suspect used a homemade gun. Because Japan has strict gun laws that make obtaining a firearm extremely difficult
- Doctors tried to save him, but he could not survive as he had a wide gaping hole in the heart.
