1. World Cancer Day 2022

• Every year on 4 February World Cancer Day is observed globally.
• The day is celebrated by WHO to aware people of the disease Cancer and how to cure it.
• This year (2022) the theme of the World Cancer Day is “closing the care gap”.

2. Gujarat’s Khijadia & UP’s Bakhira wildlife sanctuary, India’s two new protected sites

• India now has a network of 49 Ramsar sites covering an area of 10.93 hectares, the highest in South Asia.
• Khijadia Wildlife Sanctuary in Gujarat and Bakhira Wildlife Sanctuary in Uttar Pradesh have been recognised as wetlands of international importance under the Ramsar Convention.

3. India flight tests Rafale-Marine for INS Vikrant

• The marine version of the French-made Rafale fighter jet has been successfully flight-tested at a shore-based facility in Goa where conditions similar to that on the indigenously-developed aircraft carrier INS Vikrant were simulated.
• The Rafale-M jet was tested for 12 days last month at Goa’s INS Hansa facility using a 283 metre mock ski-jump facility.

4. Dr. Madan Mohan Tripathi joins as Director General, NIELIT

• Madan Mohan Tripathi has joined as Director General of National Institute of Electronics & Information Technology (NIELIT).
• National Institute of Electronics & Information Technology (NIELIT) is an autonomous body under the Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology (MeitY).

5. Central Vista project: Rs 2,600 crore allocated in Budget for construction of non-residential office buildings

• In Union Budget 2022-23, the Housing and Urban Affairs Ministry has been allocated an amount of Rs 2,600 crore for the construction of non-residential office buildings of the ambitious Central Vista project, including the Parliament as well as the Supreme Court of India.
• The amount is Rs 767.56 crore more than Rs 1,833.43 crore which was given in FY22.

• GA Srinivasa Murthy has been appointed director of Defence Research and Development Laboratory (DRDL) of the DRDO in

7. SBI-NCF-IGNCA sign MoU for Development of Atmanirbhar Bharat Centre for Design at Red Fort, Delhi

• A tripartite Memorandum of Understanding has been signed between State Bank of India, Indira Gandhi Centre for the Arts and National Culture Fund for Development of Atmanirbhar Bharat Centre for Design at L1 Barrack, Red Fort, Delhi.

8. Sea Trials of First Sea Sortie of Fifth Scorpene Submarine ‘Vagir’ commenced

• The fifth submarine of Project 75, Yard 11879, Indian Navy’s Kalvari class commenced her sea trials on 01 Feb 22.
• The submarine was launched in Nov 2020 from the Kanhoji Angre Wet Basin of Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited (MDL).
• The submarine would be named Vagir, after commissioning.

9. Sri Lanka signs $500 million credit line with India to import fuel

• Sri Lanka signed a $500 million credit line with India to import fuel.
• The Export-Import Bank of India (EXIM) will provide the credit line for purchasing petroleum products.
• Sri Lanka is struggling with its worst financial crisis in years with reserves hitting $3.1 billion in December.
• The country has to repay about $4 billion in debt repayments in 2022.

10. NIMHANS to spearhead national tele-counselling

• The National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences (NIMHANS) will spearhead a National Tele-Mental Health Programme across the country as per the Union Budget 2022-23.
• The programme will include a network of 23 tele-mental health centres of excellence, with NIMHANS being the nodal centre and IIITB providing technology support.

11. International Arbitration centre at GIFT City for dispute resolution

• Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced the setting up of an international arbitration centre at the GIFT City in Gujarat.
• It will be setting up for timely resolution of disputes under international jurisprudence.

12. Annual Spituk Gustor Festival 2022 Begins In Ladakh

• Spituk Gustor, the annual celebrations of Ladakhi culture and traditional heritage began on 30 January 2022.
• The main attraction of the festival was the colourful mask dance locally called Chams.
• The dance performed by the monks of the monastery in their best robes depicting different deities.
• Deities are Mahakala (Gonbo), Paldan Lhamo (Shridevi), White Mahakala, Protector Deity.
• The locals believe that after this festival, the harsh winter weather starts getting warmer and pleasant.

13. India’s first geological park to come up at Madhya Pradesh’s Jabalpur

• The first ‘geological’ park of the country will be built in Lamheta in Jabalpur.
• Approval for the park has been granted by Geological Survey of India, under the ministry of mining, Government of India.
• The estimated cost of this project is ₹ 35 crore.
