1. No Smoking Day 2022

• No Smoking Day is observed every year on the second Wednesday of March.
• Observed to raise awareness about the harmful health effects of tobacco via smoking and to encourage people all over the world to quit smoking.
• This year (2022), it falls on 9 March.
• Theme for the year 2022 is ‘quitting smoking doesn’t have to be stressful.’

2. T Raja Kumar appointed president of the FATF, global money laundering watchdog

• Singapore’s T Raja Kumar has been appointed as the president of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF).
• FATF is the global money laundering and terrorism financing watchdog.
• His appointment, which begins on Jul 1, is for a fixed two-year term.
• He was selected to succeed Dr. Marcus Pleyer of Germany during the FATF plenary.
• Singapore has been a member of the organisation since 1992.

3. President of India Sh. Ram Nath Kovind To Confer Prestigious Nari Shakti Puraskars To 29 Outstanding Individuals

• As many as 29 outstanding personalities will be conferred with the prestigious Nari Shakti Puraskar for the years 2020 and 2021 on the occasion of International Women’s Day.
• In all, 28 awards (14 each for the year 2020 and 2021) will be presented to 29 individuals in recognition of their exceptional work in rendering distinguished services towards the empowerment of women.

4. Airtel, Axis Bank partner for financial services; launch co-branded credit card

• Bharti Airtel and Axis Bank announced a collaboration for offering financial services, starting with a co-branded credit card for subscribers of the telecom services company.
• Under the partnership, the companies will provide pre-approved instant loans, ‘buy now pay later’ offerings, and other services.

• Defence Minister Rajnath Singh virtually inaugurated the four-day Indo-Pacific Military Health Exchange (IPMHE) conference co-hosted by Armed Forces Medical Services (AFMS) and US Indo-Pacific Command (USINDOPACOM).

6. Ninth edition of India-Sri Lanka Naval Exercise SLINEX begins in Visakhapatnam

• The ninth edition of India-Sri Lanka Naval Exercise, SLINEX, is scheduled at

7. MSME Ministry launches ‘SAMARTH’ to promote women entrepreneurship

• The Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) has launched SAMARTH.
• It is a special entrepreneurship promotion drive for women.
• Under SAMARTH, 20 percent seats in free skill development programmes, organised under skill development schemes of the ministry, will be allocated for aspiring and existing women entrepreneurs.
• This will benefit more than 7,500 women in 2022-23.

8. Govt launches Donate-a-Pension programme

• Union Labour and Employment Minister Bhupender Yadav launched the ‘Donate-a-Pension’ program under Pradhan Mantri Shram.
• It is an initiative under the (PM-SYM) pension scheme where citizens can donate the premium contribution of their immediate support staff such as domestic workers, drivers, helpers etc.

9. DD India inks MoU with YuppTV; widens its global outreach

• Indian public broadcaster Prasar Bharti has inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the over-the-top (OTT) platform YuppTV to enhance the global reach of DD India channel.
• DD India says it aims to put forth India’s perspective on various international developments on global platforms and to showcase India’s culture and values to the world.

10. Microsoft to set up India’s largest datacenter region in Hyderabad

• Microsoft said that it plans to establish its largest India data centre region in Hyderabad.
• As the tech firm looks to tap into a growing digital market where more businesses are adopting new-age tech capabilities like the cloud and AI to drive their growth.
• Telangana government will be investing over ₹15,000 crore for the development of the project.
• The data centre is expected to be operational by 2025.

11. US-Based Firm Mavenir Receives “Trusted Source” Approval From the Government

• The National Security Council Secretariat (NSCS), the trusted telecom cell, has granted the US-based telecom software provider Mavenir a “trusted source” approval.
• The report comes in from sources that suggest that the Pardeep Kohli-headed firm that predominantly offers open radio access networks (OpenRAN) to telecom carriers has received the approval.

• Life Insurance Corporation (LIC) is understood to have hired former Reliance-Nippon Life Insurance executive Sunil Agarwal as its new chief financial officer.

13. Average increment in India likely to increase to 9.1% in 2022: Survey

• Indian companies are expected to dole out an average increment of 9.1 percent in 2022, higher than the pre-Covid-19 increment in 2019, as companies are focusing on retention of talent through rewards.
• Moreover, the 2022 projected increment is higher than the pre-Covid-19 increment in 2019 by 50 basis points (bps).

14. India Added Record-Breaking 10-Gigawatt Solar Energy Capacity In 2021

• In 2021, India installed a record 10 gigawatt of solar capacity, registering a 212 percent year-on-year rise according to Mercom India Research.
• In the firm’s latest report, it revealed that in 2020, India saw 3.2GW of the solar capacity of installations.
• By the end of December 2021, the cumulative solar installed capacity was around 49GW.
