1. Rajesh Gera appointed Director General, NIC
- Rajesh Gera has been appointed as the Director General, National Informatics Centre (NIC).
- The NIC, under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), was established in 1976 with the objective to provide technology-driven solutions to central and state governments.
2. Singer KK, passes away at Kolkata
- Singer Krishnakumar Kunnath, better known as KK, passed away.
- The singer fell ill while performing at an event in Kolkata.
- One of the most versatile singers of the Indian film industry, KK has recorded songs in several languages, including Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Bengali.
3. Govt extends PMEGP scheme for five years, till 2026
- The government on Monday approved the continuation of the Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP) for five years from 2021-22 to 2025-26.
- The outlay approved for the continuation of the scheme during the 15th Finance Commission cycle is Rs 13,554.42 crore.
- Since its inception in 2008-09, about 7.8 lakh micro enterprises have been assisted.
4. Canada introduces new legislation to ‘freeze’ handgun ownership
- Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has announced new legislation that his government says will usher in “some of the strongest gun control measures” in decades, including a “freeze” on the buying and selling of handguns in the country.
- A mandatory buyback program for “assault-style weapons” will go into effect later this year if the bill passes.
5. Twin Tropical Cyclones – ‘Asani And Karim’
- Cyclones Asani & Karim, titled after the northern and southern hemispheres, are twin cyclones that formed last month at almost uniform longitude and are now sliding away.
- Karim (was given by the South African country Seychelles) is classified as a category II hurricane.
- Asani, named by Sri Lanka.
- Asani means “wrath” in Sinhalese, a Severe Cyclonic Storm over the Bay of Bengal.
6. Greenko commences construction of world’s largest integrated renewable energy storage project in AP
- Greenko Group, a Hyderabad-based clean energy firm, has initiated the construction of the world’s largest integrated RE storage project with Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy, performing the first concrete pour ceremony for the facility at Kurnool district.
- The project is scheduled to get commissioned by the last quarter of 2023.

- Anna Qabale Duba from Marsabit County in Kenya has been announced as the winner of the Aster Guardians Global Nursing Award in an award ceremony held at Atlantis The Palm, Dubai.
- The winner was announced by Dr. Azad Moopen, & the award was presented by H.H. Sheikh Ahmed Bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of Dubai Civil Aviation Authority, Chairman & Chief Executive of Emirates.
8. India to Host Meeting of ASEAN Foreign Ministers in June
- The position of the ASEAN on engaging Myanmar at multilateral forums has been that it should be at the non-political level.
- India prepares to host a meeting of the foreign ministers of the 10-nation grouping next month.
- India is unlikely to invite the Myanmarese foreign minister for the meeting (Due to the political instability in Myanmar).
- ASEAN is India’s fourth largest trading partner.

- Former Albanian President Bujar Nishani, who was often criticized for his center-right political affiliation from the leftist coalition, died following a serious health problem.

- Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik launched the Olympic Values Education Programme (OVEP), which is a pilot project aiming at disseminating principles-based curriculum to aid children’s active, healthy and responsible citizens.
- Odisha is the first state in the country to launch OVEP.

13. Money spider, ant-mimicking spider discovered at Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary
- Money spiders, commonly found in European meadows, have been reported for the first time in the country from the Muthanga range of the Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary.
- Researchers of Christ College, Irinjalakuda,Thrissur, have discovered the spider that belongs to the family of dwarf spiders under the genus
- It has been given the name Prosoponoide biflectogynus.
14. Gautam Adani, Karuna Nundy on TIME’s 100 Most Influential People of 2022 List
- Gautam Adani, India’s billionaire industrialist and socialist advocate Karuna Nundy have been named among the 100 Most Influential People of 2022 by prestigious TIME magazine.
- Also on the list is Khurram Parvez, chairperson of the Asian Federation Against Involuntary Disappearances, currently jailed in Kashmir.
15. Verstappen wins Spanish Grand Prix
- Formula One world champion Max Verstappen won the Spanish Grand Prix in a Red Bull one-two to take over at the top from Ferrari’s luckless Charles Leclerc, who retired with an engine failure while leading.
- Sergio Perez took second for a Red Bull 1-2 at the Montmelo circuit.
- Britain’s George Russell came third and Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz was fourth.
16. Kerala to launch India’s first state-owned OTT platform
- In a first in the country, Kerala will launch a state-owned over-the-top (OTT) platform, CSpace, on November 1, offering film lovers an array of movies, short films and documentaries of their choice.
- CSpace is an initiative of Kerala State Film Development Corporation (KSFDC) on behalf of the state government.
