1. World Bank approves $245 million loan to modernise India’s railway logistics infrastructure
- The World Bank has approved a USD 245 million loan to support India’s efforts to modernize rail freight and logistics infrastructure.
- The Rail Logistics project will help India shift more traffic from road to rail, making transport – both freight and passenger – more efficient and reducing millions of tonnes of GHG emissions.
- Indian Railways is the fourth-largest rail network in the world.
2. RBI appoints former SBI official Chalasani in advisory committee of Srei Group
- RBI appointed former SBI official Venkat Nageswar Chalasani as a member in the advisory committee of Srei Infrastructure Finance Limited (SIFL) and Srei Equipment Finance Limited (SEFL).
- He replaces R Subramaniakumar who resigned from the Advisory Committee with effect from June 22, 2022.
3. Senior IPS officer Dinkar Gupta appointed Director General of NIA
- Former Punjab DGP Dinkar Gupta was appointed as the new Director General of the National Investigation Agency (NIA).
- NIA is an anti-terror probe agency formed after the 26/11 attack in Mumbai.
- Gupta will hold the post of NIA chief till March 31, 2024.
- Director General of CRPF Kuldiep Singh was given additional charge of the NIA in May last year after the retirement of Y C Modi.
4. Randeep Guleria gets another 3 months extension as AIIMS director
- Randeep Guleria has got a three months extension for the second time as director of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Delhi.
- Guleria’s term was set to end on March 24 this year.
- Guleria, a noted pulmonologist, has played a key role in India’s covid-19 management and was appointed as AIIMS director in 2017 for a period of five years.
5. Validity of expiring FCRA licences of NGOs extended till September 30,2022
- The Union Home Ministry extended till September 30 the validity of all FCRA registered NGOs.
- The validity of the registration certificates of such entities whose validity was extended till June 30 and whose renewal application is pending will stand extended till September 30, 2022 or till the date of disposal of renewal application, whichever is earlier.
6. AU Small Finance Bank launches industry’s first customisable credit card, LIT
- AU Small Finance Bank announced the launch of AU Bank LIT (Live-It-Today) credit card which allows customers to choose the features they want in their card and also decide the time period they want those features for.
- Instead of buying multiple cards for different categories, such as travel, shopping etc, the customer can opt for the categories of their preference under.
- Sanjay Agarwal is the MD and CEO of AU Small Finance Bank.

7. ONGC Videsh announces oil discovery in Colombia
- ONGC Videsh (OVL), a subsidiary and overseas arm of State-run Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) has made an oil discovery in the recently drilled well, Urraca-IX, in CPO-5 block, Llanos Basin, Colombia.
- OVL had earlier discovered commercial oil in the lower sand play in Mariposa & Indico fields in the block in 2017 and 2018 which are producing 20000 barrels of oil /day.
8. Government of Odisha partners with Ultimate Kho Kho League to own a franchise
- The Odisha government has taken ownership of a team in the soon-to-be-launched Ultimate Kho Kho (UKK) league.
- This will be the second direct sports venture for the Odisha government.
- The government also has ownership of the hockey team Kalinga Lancers, in the Hockey India League in 2013.
9. Delhi airport becomes India’s first to run entirely on hydro and solar energy
- GMR Group-run Delhi Airport has become the first airport in India to run entirely on hydro and solar power from June 1st.
- It is a major step toward achieving the goal of becoming a Net Zero Carbon Emission Airport by 2030.
- Delhi International Airport Limited has signed a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) with a Himachal Pradesh-based hydropower producing company for supply.
10. India reports CAD of 1.2% of GDP in FY22 on widening trade deficit: RBI
- India witnessed a current account deficit of 1.2 percent of GDP in 2021-22 against a surplus of 0.9 percent in FY2020-21 due to a wider trade deficit, the RBI said.
- The Balance of Payments data suggested that goods imports stood at USD 618.6 billion in FY22 as against USD 398.5 billion in the year-ago period, leading to the widening of the trade deficit.
