1.  Govt to soon launch nationwide campaign ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ to inspire people to hoist national flag

  • The Central government will soon launch a nationwide campaign Har Ghar Tiranga to inspire countrymen to hoist the national flag at their homes to mark the 75th Independence Day.
  • The initiative has been taken under the aegis of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav, for which the Ministry of Culture is the nodal ministry.
  • It aims at encouraging Indians everywhere to hoist the national flag.

2.  Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa signs his resignation letter

  • Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has signed his resignation letter, and the Speaker of Parliament will publicly announce it to the nation.
  • According to Sri Lanka newspaper reports the resignation was signed and handed over to a senior government official who will hand it over to Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena.
  • Ranil Wickremesinghe is the current Prime Minister.
  • Sri Jayawardanapura Kote is legislative and Colombo is the executive and judicial capital

3.  World Masters Athletics Championships: 94-year-old Bhagwani Devi from India wins gold medal in 100 m sprint in Finland

  • In Athletics, Bhagwani Devi, a 94-year-old sprinter from India, won the gold medal in the 100 m sprint at the World Masters Athletics Championships held in Tampere, Finland.
  • She won the gold with a timing of 24.74 seconds.
  • Bhagwani also bagged a bronze medal in shot put.
  • World Masters Athletics Championships was held in Tampere from June 29 – July 10.

4.  RBI fines Ola Financial Services Rs 1.67 cr for not following directions

  • The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has fined Ola Financial Services Rs 1.67 crore for not complying with its directions on prepaid payment instruments.
  • The company is a unit of the ride-hailing platform.
  • Ola Financial Services was found to be non-compliant with the directions issued by RBI on Know Your Customer (KYC) requirements.

6.  New co-dopants identified can create better performing and more stable solar cells

  • Scientists have identified co-dopants that can increase the photovoltaic performance of transparent metal oxides such as ZnO, In2O3 and SnO2 thereby creating potential for more efficient, better performing and more stable solar cells.
  • Perovskites are a leading candidate for eventually replacing silicon as the material of choice for solar panels.

7.  Renowned archaeologist Padmashree Enamul Haque passes away

  • Eminent archaeologist, historian and former Director-General of the Bangladesh National Museum Dr. Enamul Haque passed away in Dhaka yesterday.
  • He was 85.
  • Enamul Haque was conferred with Padma Shri for the year 2020 for his work on Bengal’s Iconography and terracotta art.
  • He was instrumental in setting up the Bangladesh National Museum.

8.  Parameswaran Iyer takes charge as the CEO of NITI Aayog

  • Former drinking water and sanitation secretary Parameswaran Iyer, who led the Centre’s flagship Swachh Bharat Mission, took charge as chief executive officer (CEO) of Niti Aayog.
  • His appointment for the role was cleared by the Cabinet Appointments Committee on June 24.
  • He replaced Amitabh Kant, who demitted office on June 30.
  • He has over 25 years of experience.

9.  IRDAI sets up two task forces on issues of reinsurance support

  • A nine-member panel has been constituted to sort out the issues between non-life insurers and reinsurers under the chairmanship of Bhargav Dasgupta, MD and CEO of ICICI Lombard General.
  • Headed by Naveen Tahilyani, CEO and MD, Tata AIA Life Insurance, the second task force, comprising seven members, will look at the life insurance segment and re-insurers.

10.  Jonny Bairstow and Marizanne Kapp claim ICC Player of the Month Awards for June

  • The International Cricket Council announced the winners of the ICC Player of the Month awards for June 2022 as England’s all-conquering Jonny Bairstow and South Africa’s batting force Marizanne Kapp.
  • Baristow scored the second fastest century ever registered by an English batter in the longest format against New Zealand.
  • Kapp scored a national record of 150 against England.

11.  Rohit Sharma notches up World Record, becomes first captain to record 13 successive T20I wins

  • With a World Record at stake, Rohit ensured that there was no slip-up as he became the first skipper in the history of the game to register 13 successive wins in the shortest format.
  • Hitman has achieved as captain, India have gone on to beat teams like New Zealand, West Indies, Sri Lanka and now England.
