1. Vodafone Idea (VI) appoints Akshaya Moondra as CEO for 3 years

  • Managing director Ravinder Takkar will be replaced by Akshaya Moondra, Vodafone Idea’s current CFO, as CEO for a period of three years.
  • Following Balesh Sharma’s resignation on August 19, 2019, Sh. Takkar was named MD and CEO for a term of three years.

2. Burhanpur of MP becomes first certified ‘Har Ghar Jal’ district in Country

  • Burhanpur is the only district in the country where all people from each of 254 villages have access to safe drinking water through taps.
  • Only 36.54% of over one lakh households in Burhanpur had potable drinking water through tap connections at the time of the launch of Jal Jeevan Mission on 15th August 2019.
  • Now 1 lakh 1 thousand 905 rural households have connections.
  • Burhanpur also known as the ‘Darwaza of Dakhin’ in Madhya Pradesh.

3. RBI imposes ₹57.75 lakh penalty on Suryoday Small Finance Bank

  • RBI has imposed a monetary penalty of ₹57.75 lakh on Suryoday Small Finance Bank Ltd. (SSFB) for non-compliance with its directions on “frauds classification and reporting by commercial banks and select FIs”.
  • The examination of the Inspection Report (IR) and all related correspondence pertaining to the Statutory Inspection of the bank revealed non-compliance.

4. BEL signs ₹250 crore contract with Ministry of Defence

  • Navratna Defence PSU Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) has signed a contract with the Ministry of Defence, worth around Rs 250 crores, towards the supply of nine Integrated ASW Complex (IAC) MOD ‘C’ Systems.
  • IAC MOD ‘C’ is an Integrated Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) system for all surface ships of the Indian Navy.

5. India’s battery storage potential to be 600 GWh by 2030: Niti report

  • India will have a battery storage potential of 600 gigawatt hour (GWh) by 2030 & demand for electric vehicles, stationary storage & consumer electronics will mainly drive adoption of battery storage, a Niti Aayog report said.
  • It said current deployment of lithium-ion batteries in India is dominated by consumer electronics comprising smartphones, laptops, notebooks & tablets.

6. Bhavani Devi to be part of 1st Khelo India Fencing Women’s League

  • The 1st Khelo India Fencing Women’s League is scheduled to start on July 25 at the Talkatora Indoor Stadium, New Delhi.
  • To be held over three phases, the first of its kind national fencing competition for women will take place until July 29.
  • It will be held across three phases.
  • While Phase 1 and 2 are scheduled in New Delhi, the final phase will take place in Patiala.

7. Asia Cup 2022 to be held in UAE

  • The Asia Cup, which was scheduled to be held in Sri Lanka, has been shifted to the UAE, BCCI president Sourav Ganguly.
  • Asia Cup is slated to be held from August 27 to September 11 and will be played in the T20 format.

8. Mohamed Mezghani reappointed as Secretary General by UTT for the next five years

  • The UITP Executive Board confirmed the reappointment of Mohamed Mezghani as UITP Secretary General for a new five-year term.
  • Mohamed has been the Secretary General of UITP since 2018, when he began his first term in January of that year.

    • UITP (Union Internationale des Transports Publics) is the International Association of Public Transport.

9. ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India in India Book of Records for country’s first steel slag road

  • The record for making the first steel slag road was set by CSIR – Central Road Research Institute and ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India.
  • The 1.2 km road, opened for traffic in May last year, is the country’s first road built using 100% processed steel slag aggregates.
  • Surat has become the first city in the country to get a processed steel slag (industrial waste).

10. Renowned Scientist & ILS Director Dr Ajay Parida died

  • Noted scientist and Director, Institute of Life Sciences (ILS), Bhubaneswar Dr Ajay Parida has died at Guwahati.
  • Parida, a Padma Shri awardee, was 58 years old.
  • The ILS conducted genome sequencing to ascertain Covid variants, essential for proper treatment, under supervision of Dr Parida.

11. Ex UPMRC MD Kumar Keshav takes charge as CEO of Deutsche Bahn India

  • Kumar Keshav has joined a prestigious assignment as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) with Deutsche Bahn Engineering & Consulting India in New Delhi.
  • Deutsche Bahn (DB) is a German company with expertise in the operation and maintenance of railway projects in different countries across the world.
  • MD of Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation(UPMRC): Sushil Kumar.

12. Dinesh Gunawardena appointed Sri Lanka’s new Prime Minister

  • Dinesh Gunawardena was appointed as the new prime minister of Sri Lanka in July 2022.
  • Gunawardena has served as a cabinet minister in previous governments.
  • He has served as the foreign minister, transport minister and minister for urban developments and has held several other roles during his political career which spans over five decades.
  • First PM of Sri Lanka: Rt. Hon. D. S. Senanayake.

13. India Innovation Index 2021: Karnataka tops NITI Aayog innovation list

  • Karnataka, Telangana and Haryana have been ranked as the top three states among 17 major states in Niti Aayog’s third innovation index.
  • States and Union Territories were divided into ’17 Major States’, ’10 North-East and Hill States’, and ‘9 Union Territories and City States’, for effectively comparing their performance.

14. All advertisements telecast on private satellite TV channels are regulated in accordance with Advertising Code: Govt

  • The Information and Broadcasting Minister has said that all advertisements telecast on private satellite TV channels are regulated in accordance with the Advertising Code prescribed under the Cable Television networks Rules, 1994.
  • The Central Consumer Protection Authority has been established under the provisions of Consumer Protection Act, 2019 which looks into misleading advertisements.

15. NITI Aayog to develop Net Zero GHG emissions Roadmap for NTPC

  • Paving the pathway towards greening the power sector of the country, the SoI seeks to formalize a framework of cooperation between the parties to facilitate NTPC to strategies on diversification of its generation mix to eventually reduce its carbon footprint and support India’s endeavour towards achieving net zero by 2070.

16. COP 26 President and NITI Aayog launch initiatives to boost electric mobility and promote battery reuse and recycling market

  • During the visit of COP 26 President Rt Hon’ble Alok Sharma to India in July 2022, NITI Aayog today launched two significant initiatives — E-AMRIT (Accelerated e-Mobility Revolution for India’s Transportation) mobile application to raise awareness on electric mobility and the Report on Advanced Chemistry Cell Battery Reuse and Recycling Market in India.

17. IAPH appoints Ennarasu Karunesan as its representative in India

  • The Tokyo-based International Association of Ports and Harbors (IAPH), the global ports’ forum for industry collaboration and excellence, has appointed Ennarasu Karunesan as its official representative in India.

18. India’s bioeconomy likely to touch $300 billion by 2030, says report

  • The India BioEconomy Report 2022, based on the data on the biotech sector’s contribution to the economy, has been brought out by the Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council (BIRAC).
  • The report said the country’s bioeconomy has reached over USD 80 billion in 2021, registering a 14.1 per cent growth over USD 70.2 billion in 2020.
