1. Max Verstappen Wins after Charles Leclerc crashes out at French Grand Prix

  • Max Verstappen won the French Grand Prix after Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc crashed out while leading the race.
  • Red Bull’s Verstappen finished over 10 seconds ahead of Lewis Hamilton whose Mercedes teammate George Russell overtook the Red Bull of Sergio Perez in the closing laps to claim third.

2. SEZs in new avatar: Units to get slew of tax and other sops

  • The new draft bill proposes a concessional corporate tax rate for units, a revamped indirect tax regime, a dispute settlement mechanism, easier exit and an array of non-fiscal incentives, to draw investors into these customs-bonded zones.

3. Foundation stone laid for Guwahati Bench of Central Administrative Tribunal

  • Chairman of Central Administrative Tribunal, Ms Manjula Das laid the foundation stone of the construction of Court-cum-office building of the Guwahati Bench of Central Administrative Tribunal in Guwahati.

4. Shri Nitin Gadkari inaugurates Savner-Dhapewada-Gondkheri section of National Highway 547-E in Nagpur

  • Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Shri Nitin Gadkari inaugurated the Savner-Dhapewada-Gondkhairi section of National Highway 547-E with a length of 28.88 km and a cost of Rs. 720 crore in Nagpur.

5. Foundation Stone laid for 8th Hi-tech park in Natore under the Indian Line of Credit to Bangladesh.

  • This is the 8th park out of 12 IT/Hi-Tech parks under the Indian Line of Credit (LOC) extended to Bangladesh.
  • The financial assistance worth USD 193 million under Line of Credit is offered by India.
  • The agreement for setting up Hi-Tech parks in 12 districts of Bangladesh, reached in 2015 between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

6. IIT Kanpur’s Startup Incubation and Innovation Centre (SIIC) has launched the NIRMAN Accelerator Program

  • It is supported by the Department of Science and Technology, where 15 start-ups will be selected and given the opportunity to accelerate their product journey from ‘lab to market’.
  • The programme will focus on the manufacturing startups engaged in healthcare and agriculture domains to help them overcome the challenges from their prototype-to-market journey.

7. ADB approves $96 mn loan for safe drinking water project in Himachal Pradesh

  • The Asian Development Bank has approved a USD 96.3 million (about Rs 770 crore) loan to fund safe drinking water and sanitation projects in Himachal Pradesh.
  • The loan has been provided under the Himachal Pradesh Rural Drinking Water Improvement and Livelihood Project.
  • The project meets the objectives of the Jal Jeevan Mission, a national flagship programme of the Government.
  • Jal Jeevan Mission aims to provide piped water to all rural households by 2024.

8. Centre amends Flag Code to allow people to display tricolour 24X7

  • With the Centre launching the “Har Ghar Tiranga” (hoisting of the flag at every home in the country) campaign, it has also made changes in the Flag Code of India 2002 allowing the tricolour to be flown by the public both day and night.
  • ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ will be celebrated from August 13 to 15.
  • It will be celebrated as part of the ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ to commemorate 75 years of Independence.

9. Startups in India rose from 471 in 2016 to 72,993 in 2022

  • The total number of recognized startups in India rose to 72,993 this year from 471 in 2016.
  • The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) has recognized startups which are spread across 56 diversified sectors.
  • The Government launched the Startup India initiative on 16th January 2016.

10. Lok Sabha passes Indian Antarctic Bill, 2022

  • The Bill aims at having India’s own national measures for protecting the Antarctic environment as also the dependent and associated ecosystem.
  • The main aim is to ensure de-militarization of the region along with getting it rid of mining or illegal activities.
  • It also aims that there should not be any nuclear test / explosion in the region.

11. Odisha govt signs MoU with World Bank group to implement Asset Monetisation

  • The Odisha government has signed an MoU with International Finance Corporation (IFC) –a member of the World Bank Group, to support the implementation of the Asset Monetization & Recycling Program (AMRP) for the State.

12. Indian scientists discover New Strategy To Revive Efficacy Of Existing Antibiotics, Counter Multidrug-Resistant Bacteria

  • Scientists at Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research (JNCASR) have come up with a new approach of revitalizing the efficacy of existing antibiotics to counter the rising menace of multidrug-resistant bacteria.
  • They are using obsolete antibiotics in combination with antibiotic adjuvants – ingredients that can weakly perturb bacterial membranes.
