1. Union Cabinet approves extension of PMAY-Urban till 31st Dec 2024
- The Union Cabinet has approved continuation of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Urban (PMAY-U) – Housing for All Mission up to 31st December 2024.
- Financial assistance is being provided for the completion of already sanctioned over 122 lakh houses till 31st March 2022.
- About PMAY-Urban:
- The scheme is one of the major flagship programmes being implemented by the Central Government’s Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA).
- It was launched on 25th June 2015.
2. PM Narendra Modi dedicates 2G ethanol plant in Panipat on World Biofuel Day
- On the occasion of World Biofuel Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi dedicated the 2nd generation (2G), Ethanol Plant, in Panipat, Haryana.
- The 2G biofuel plant has been set up to strengthen the efforts to boost the production and usage of biofuels in the country.
- The ethanol plant has been developed by Indian Oil Corporation Ltd. (IOCL), at an estimated cost of over ₹900 cr.
- What is ethanol biofuel?
- Ethanol fuel is ethyl alcohol, this type of alcohol found in alcoholic beverages.
- It can be made from biomass which are the materials of various plants.
3. LG Manoj Sinha inaugurates “UMEED Market Place” under AVSAR Scheme of AAI
- In Jammu and Kashmir, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha inaugurated “UMEED Market Place” under AVSAR Scheme of Airport Authority of India at Srinagar International airport yesterday.
- A similar Marketplace was also opened at Jammu Airport and both the outlets will exhibit products of all 20 districts.
4. Microsoft, govt plan to train 2.5 million civil servants in computer skills
- Microsoft and the Indian government will collaborate for a programme to train nearly 250,000 civil servants in using the company’s suite of digital tools.
- The partnership between the tech giant, the Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, and the Capacity Building Commission aims to help civil servants in helping the underprivileged.

5. In a first, SBI formalises policy to finance makers of lab-grown diamonds
- State Bank of India is the first Indian lender to frame a policy to fund makers of lab-grown diamonds which come across as replicas of the natural stones, but are often looked at with suspicion by high-street banks and scoffed at by many traditional diamantaires.

7. Sunil Chhetri, Manisha Kalyan named men’s and women’s AIFF Footballer of the Year

8. Ahmedabad University prof Ramadhar Singh becomes first Indian psychologist on US Heritage Wall of Fame
- The extraordinary contributions to social psychology and management by Ramadhar Singh, currently a Distinguished University Professor at the Amrut Mody School of Management of Ahmedabad University have been marked on the ‘Heritage Wall of Fame’ of the Society for Personality and Social Psychology in the United States.
- He is the only social psychologist to get this honour.
9. India to invite all members of the UN Security Council for a special meeting of the Counter-Terrorism on October 2022
- United Nations Security Council Counter-Terrorism Committee (CTC) has decided to hold a special meeting on this theme,” with the support of its Executive Directorate (CTED), in India on October 29, 2022.
- The most recent special meeting of the CTC outside of United Nations headquarters took place in Madrid, Spain, in July 2015, focusing on foreign terrorist fighters (FTFs).
10. 12th edition of Defence Expo to be held in Gujarat’s Gandhinagar
- The Centre has decided to hold DefExpo 2022, the premier defence exhibition on land, naval and homeland security systems, in Gandhinagar, Gujarat for five days from October 18.
- The theme of the 12th edition of exhibition is ‘Path to Pride’ and it seeks to invoke nationalistic pride and encourages citizens to partake in nation building.
11. Rudi Koertzen, former umpire from South Africa, passes away
- He became an umpire in the year 1981 and officiated in his first game, an ODI, in December 1992.
- He ended his illustrious career by officiating in his last game, a test match between Pakistan and Australia in 2010.
- In total, he officiated in 108 Tests, a record 209 ODIs and 14 T20Is.
- Koertzen was inducted into the ICC’s Elite Panel in 2002 and was a part of it for 8 yrs.

12. Amit Shah launches onboarding of 300 cooperatives on GeM portal
- Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah launched the onboarding of cooperatives on the Government e-Marketplace (GeM) portal.
- Over 300 cooperatives have been onboarded as buyers on the GeM portal to enable them to purchase goods and services at competitive prices, which will help expand their businesses.
- Cooperatives that were onboarded include IFFCO, KRIBHCO Amul etc.
13. 80 Years of Quit India Movement – August 8th
- The Quit India movement was started on August 8, 1942, in the Bombay Session under the direction of Mahatma Gandhi.
- To end British rule in India was the movement’s main goal.
- In his address urging people to leave India, delivered in Bombay, Gandhi used the maxim “do or die.”
- Even though the then-British government attempted to stifle the movement by imprisoning Congressmen.
14. Indian Army and Drone Federation of India Sign MoU for development of UAVs
- Indian Army’s Army Design Bureau (ADB) and Drone Federation of India (DFI) an industry body for the country’s unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) industry, have inked an MoU to make drones to be used in the Indian Army operations.
- Under the MoU, DFI & ADB will collaborate on roadmap planning, research, testing, manufacturing, and adoption of drones, counter-drone, and associated technologies that are to be utilised by the Indian Army in its operations.
