  • Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman has replaced his father King Salman as prime minister.
  • The decree promoted Prince Mohammed’s brother Prince Khalid from deputy defence minister to defence minister.
  • Prince Mohammed has previously served as deputy prime minister.

2. DRDO conducts successful tests of Very Short Range Air Defence System Missiles

  • The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) carried out two successful test flights of the Very-Short Range Air Defence System (VSHORADS) missile.
  • The missiles were test-fired from a ground-based portable launcher.
  • The tests were carried out from the Integrated Test Range at Chandipur, located off the coast of Odisha.

3. UP govt gives nod to Bundelkhand’s first tiger reserve

  • In a bid to promote tiger conservation in the state, the Uttar Pradesh cabinet gave a green signal for the development of the first tiger reserve in the Bundelkhand region.
  • In a meeting chaired by the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the cabinet approved to notify Ranipur Tiger Reserve under the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972.

4. Uco Bank and Yes Bank tie up with Russian banks for payments

  • Uco Bank and Yes Bank have put in place arrangements with two Russian counterparts as India seeks to step up trade with the sanctioned nation.
  • While Uco Bank, which was the agency responsible for rupee trade with Iran, has tied up with Gazprom Bank, Yes Bank and Petersburg Social Commercial Bank (PSCB) also have an agreement in place.

5. BSE receives SEBI’s final approval to launch EGR on its platform

  • BSE has received the final approval from the capital markets regulator Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) for introducing the Electronic Gold Receipt (EGR) on its platform.
  • India is the second largest consumer of gold globally with an annual gold demand of approximately 800-900 tonnes and holds an important position in the global markets.

6. Aarogya Setu, CoWIN to be used for health issues other than Covid as well

  • Under the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission, the Centre is repurposing Aarogya Setu and CoWIN.
  • Aarogya Setu was launched for handling COVID-19 in a more systematic way.
  • It has been updated to function as a health and wellness app.
  • After being extensively used to facilitate COVID-19 immunisation, CoWIN will be utilised for India’s universal immunisation programme.

  • The government has launched a new mobile app called ‘Sign Learn’ with an aim to make the Indian Sign Language dictionary more accessible to the masses.
  • The app, which is available for both Android and iPhone, was launched by Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment, Pratima Bhoumik.

10. Mahindra Logistics gains on acquiring Rivigo’s B2B express business

  • Mahindra Logistics announced the acquisition of the B2B express business of Gurugram-based logistics firm Rivigo Services, which will help the company accelerate its capabilities in this space.
  • Mahindra Logistics Ltd (MLL) will acquire the express business through a business transfer agreement (BTA), including the customers, team and assets of Rivigo’s B2B express business.

11. Vinayak Godse to take over as new CEO of Data Security Council of India on Oct 1

  • Premier industry body Data Security Council of India (DSCI), setup by NASSCOM, promoted its senior vice president Vinayak Godse and appointed him as the new CEO on September 7.
  • Godse will be taking over from Rama Vedashree who led DSCI for more than 6 years.
  • The decision was taken by a selection committee of the DSCI Board chaired by former DSCI chairman Dr N Balakrishnan.

  • GM Magnus Carlsen (Norway) won the Julius Baer Generation Cup, needing just two games vs. GM Arjun Erigaisi (India).
  • Carlsen’s performance makes him the first player to hit the historic 2900 Tour Rating mark and he has also reached $180,000 in earnings on the Tour.

13. S&P retains FY23 growth forecast at 7.3%; OECD at 6.9%

  • S&P Global Ratings retained India’s economic growth projection at 7.3% in the current fiscal with downside risks and said inflation is likely to remain above the Reserve Bank of India’s upper tolerance threshold of 6% till the end of 2022.
  • The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) too stuck to its projection of 6.9% growth in India’s GDP for FY23.

16. INS Sunayna enters Port Victoria Seychelles to participate in annual training exercise Operation Southern Readiness

  • The INS Sunayna entered Port Victoria Seychelles to participate in the annual training exercise Operation Southern Readiness of Combined Maritime Forces.
  • This marks the maiden participation of an Indian Navy ship in Combined Maritime Forces exercise.
  • The joint training exercise is being attended by representatives from India, the US, Italy, Australia, Canada, and New Zealand.
