1. International Day for the Eradication of Poverty – 17 October 2022
- The International Day for the Eradication of Poverty 2022 is celebrated on October 17 annually to raise awareness about the global issue of poverty and how it is a violation of human rights and human dignity
- History of the Day:
- The first International Day for the Eradication of Poverty was observed on October 17, 1987, to honour the victims of extreme poverty, violence, and hunger.
- On that day, more than a lakh of people gathered at the Trocadéro in Paris to honour the victims of extreme poverty, violence and hunger.
- It was the same place where the Universal Declaration of Human Rights was signed in 1948.
- Through resolution 47/196 adopted on 22 December 1992, the United Nations General Assembly declared 17 October as the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty.

- The theme of the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty for 2022 is “Dignity for all in practice”.
2. Nuclear-powered INS Arihant carries out successful launch of SLBM
- INDIA’S STRATEGIC Strike Nuclear Submarine INS Arihant on Friday carried out a successful launch of a Submarine Launched Ballistic Missile (SLBM).
- The Ministry of Defence has said that the test is significant for the SSBN programme, which is a crucial element of India’s nuclear deterrence capability.
- Surface-to-Surface Ballistic Missile (SSBN) is a hull classification symbol for nuclear powered ballistic missile carrying submarines.
- About INS Arihant:
- It was launched in 2009 and was commissioned in 2016.
- INS Arihant is a 6000 tonne submarine with a length of 110 metres and a breadth of 11 metres.
- It can carry a dozen canisterised Sagarika missiles on board.
3. Partha Satpathy appointed as next Indian Ambassador to Bosnia and Herzegovina
- Partha Satpathy, presently Ambassador of India to the Republic of Hungary, has been concurrently accredited as the next Ambassador of India to Bosnia and Herzegovina.

- Tamil Nadu has emerged as the only State which has achieved the target for 2022 Q1 and Q2 for Jal Jeevan Mission, with 69.57 lakh households provided with tap connections till date, according to official data.
- Of the 1.25 crore households in Tamil Nadu, 69.57 lakh households have received tap connections till date.

8. NHIDCL signs MoU with IIT Patna for innovation in highways construction
- National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd (NHIDCL), a central public sector enterprise under the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Patna for cooperation in innovative solutions for highways construction.
- It has also signed Memorandum of Understandings (MoUs) with CSIR-CRRI, IIT Roorkee, IIT Kanpur and NSDC during the current year 2022-23 to promote innovation in highways construction.

- Patil also secured a 2024 Paris Olympics quota for the country in the process.
