1. Neeraj Chopra wins Diamond Trophy in Zurich with best throw of 88.44m; first Indian to to achieve the feat

  • Indian javelin star Neeraj Chopra threw a strong 88.44m to become the first Indian to be the Diamond League Champion.
  • He achieved the feat at the annual league’s grand final in Zurich.
  • Chopra defeated Czech Republic’s Jakub Vadljech (86.94m) and Julian Weber (83.73m).
  • He was also the first Indian to qualify for the Diamond Race when he topped the Lausanne Diamond League 2022.

2. Queen Elizabeth II, 96, UK’s longest-reigning monarch passes away

3. President Droupadi Murmu to launch ‘Pradhan Mantri TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan’, target to eliminate TB by 2025

  • Hon’ble President Smt. Droupadi Murmu will virtually launch the Pradhan Mantri TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan on September 9th to reinvigorate the mission of TB elimination from the country by 2025.
  • Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi gave the clarion call to end TB in the country five years ahead of SDG target of 2030 at the Delhi End TB Summit in March 2018.

4. NIESBUD, IIE and ISB come together to offer Entrepreneurial programmes to India’s youth

  • The National Institute for Entrepreneurship and Small Business Development (NIESBUD) and the Indian Institute of Entrepreneurship (IIE), signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Indian School of Business (ISB), to offer world class management education through entrepreneurial programmes targeted towards youth, job seekers and budding entrepreneurs.

5. India & UK conducts Counter Ransomware Exercise for 26 nations

  • India’s National Security Council Secretariat (NSCS) and the UK Government in collaboration with BAE Systems successfully designed & conducted the Cyber Security Exercise for 26 Countries as part of the International Counter Ransomware Initiative- Resilience Working Group which is being led by India under the leadership of National Cyber Security Coordinator (NCSC).
  • The theme of the exercise is based on Energy Sector

6. Three Indian Cities are now in UNESCO Global Network of Learning Cities

  • Warangal, Nilambur, and Thrissur have joined UNESCO Global Network of Learning Cities.
  • An international policy-oriented network, the UNESCO Global Network of Learning Cities is a network of inspiration, know-how and best practices.
  • It is coordinated by the UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning (UIL).
  • As per UNESCO, 77 cities from 44 countries across the globe have joined.

7. Government sets up Kirit Parikh committee to moderate gas prices

  • The government has set up a panel to review the formula that dictates the pricing of gas produced by companies like ONGC and Reliance as it looks to moderate the steep increase that producers would have otherwise got.
  • The committee under former planning commission member Kirit S Parikh will suggest a “fair price to the end consumer”.

8. Bank of India becomes first Public Sector Bank to go live on new Direct Tax Collection System Tin 2.0

  • Bank of India has become the first public sector bank to go live on Income Tax Department’s new Direct Tax Collection System Tin 2.0.
  • With this technological integration of BOI on TIN 2.0 platform, taxpayers will now get a single platform for their tax payment as well as e-filing of tax returns.

9. Cabinet approves Rs 27k-cr scheme for setting up over 14k PM-SHRI schools

  • The Union ministry approved a Rs 27,360-crore scheme for the development of over 14,000 schools across the country as PM Schools for Rising India (PM-SHRI), which is expected to benefit 187 lakh students.
  • Under the scheme, over 14,000 schools, including Kendriya Vidyalayas and Navodaya Vidyalayas as well as schools run by state governments and local bodies, will be strengthened.

10. SBI sells largest AT-1 tranche at lowest rate for any bank so far this year

  • India’s largest lender State Bank of India issued additional tier-1 (AT1) bonds worth a total of Rs 6,872 crore at a cut-off of 7.75 per cent, the lowest rate set for such debt issuances by any bank so far in the current financial year.
  • The bank had notified an amount of Rs 7,000 crore to be raised through a single tranche of AT1 bonds in order to augment capital.

  • Cabinet approves the Memorandum of Understanding signed on mutual recognition of academic qualifications between India and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

12. Railway Ministry unveils ₹4,700 crore plan to revamp New Delhi station, to fund it internally and not via PPP route

  • Indian Railways has unveiled a Rs 4,700 crore plan to redevelop the New Delhi Railway Station.
  • While the Railways had initially planned to pursue the New Delhi station redevelopment through Public Private Partnership (PPP) by offering real estate development rights on approximately 86 hectares, it has now decided to fund the project through state exchequer.

13. India’s first RRTS corridor to have app-based ticketing system without tokens

  • Equipped with many commuter-centric features, National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) would be introducing a first-of-its-kind app-based ticketing system.
  • This will be introduced on its 82 kilometre long Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS (Regional Rapid Transit System) corridor.

  • The National Commission for Women organized its first-ever Consultation for transwomen; ‘Inclusion Amplified, Transwomen in India: Problems & Prospects’ to address the misconceptions leading to stigma attached with the individuals of the community and spark a conversation with regard to their acceptance and participation in the society.

15. Kinetic to launch Luna in electric avatar, expands capacity with new plant

  • Luna, the country’s first eponymous brand that gave wings to urban India in the 1970s, is making a comeback in an electric avatar.
  • Luna joins the other popular two-wheeler brands of the licence era-the Chetak and the Lambretta -which are making a return in the modern electric version, even as they retain part of their retro design.

16. Seat belts mandatory for all passengers in car, violators to be fined: Gadkari announces new rule after Mistry’s death

  • Union minister Nitin Gadkari said that from now on wearing seat belts would be mandatory for all passengers in a car, including those on rear seats, and flouting the rule will attract penalty.
  • The announcement was made only two days after former Tata Sons chairman Cyrus Mistry died in a car accident near Mumbai.

17. President of Mongolia Ukhnaagiin Khurelsukh gifts horse ‘Tejas’ to Defence Minister Rajnath Singh

  • Rajnath Singh, the first Indian Defence Minister to visit Mongolia, was gifted a majestic horse ‘Tejas’ by President Ukhnaagiin Khurelsukh.
  • Seven years after Prime Minister Narendra Modi received a similar gift from the leadership of this country.

18. Navigation performance test conducted at upcoming Mopa International airport in Goa

  • The Goa International Airport Limited (GGIAL), a subsidiary of GMR Airports Limited (GAL), completed RNP (Required Navigation Performance) procedure for both approaches of the newly built runway at the upcoming international airport at Mopa in North Goa.
  • The new airport will be Goa’s second airport in addition to the Dabolim airport in South Goa.
