1. Indian diplomat appointed as UN Chief’s envoy on technology
- UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has appointed senior Indian diplomat Amandeep Singh Gill as his envoy on technology to coordinate programmes for international digital cooperation.
- Amandeep Singh Gill has been India’s permanent representative to the Conference on Disarmament in Geneva from 2016-to 2018.
2. An initiative to ban online rummy, Tamil Nadu CM forms panel to frame statute of it
- Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin has instituted a four-member committee to assist the state government in preparing an ordinance to ban online rummy game.
- The team is led by retired Madras High Court Justice Chanduru.
3. UNGA adopts resolution on multilingualism, mentions Hindi language for first time
- In a significant initiative, the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) has adopted an India-sponsored resolution on multilingualism that mentions the Hindi language for the first time.
- Hindi @ UN’ project was launched in 2018 with an objective to enhance the public outreach of the United Nations in the Hindi language.
- The resolution also mentions Bangla and Urdu for the first time.
4. Finance and Corporate Affairs Minister Nirmala Sitharaman launches EASE 5.0 ‘Common reforms agenda’ for PSBs
- Nirmala Sitharaman launched 5th edition of Enhanced Access and Service Excellence-EASE 5.0, which spells out the common reforms agenda for PSBs under EASENext program.
- EASE 5.0 will focus on digital customer experience, and integrated & inclusive banking.
- The initiatives will be across diverse themes – business growth, profitability, risk, customer service, operations, etc.
5. RBI doubles home loan limits of co-op banks
- The limits for tier-I and tier-II UCBs have been revised from Rs 30 lakh to Rs 60 lakh and Rs 70 lakh to Rs 1.40 crore, respectively.
- These limits were last revised for UCBs in 2011 and for RCBs in 2009.
- The RBI allowed urban cooperative banks to provide doorstep banking services to meet the needs of customers, especially senior citizens and differently abled persons.
6. RBI cancels The Mudhol Co-operative Bank’s banking license on inadequate capital position
- The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) cancelled the banking licence of Karnataka-based The Mudhol Co-operative Bank citing inadequate capital situation.
- The bank is prohibited from conducting the business of ‘banking’ which includes, among other things, acceptance of deposits and repayment of deposits.
7. India brings forth first homegrown covid-19 vaccine anocovax for animals
- The country’s first homegrown COVID-19 vaccine Anocovax for animals, developed by Haryana-based ICAR-National Research Centre on Equines (NRC), was launched by Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh.
- Anocovax is an inactivated SARS-CoV-2 Delta (COVID-19) vaccine for animals.
- The immunity induced by Anocovax neutralizes both Delta and Omicron variants of SARS-CoV-2.
8. DD Director-General Mayank Kumar Agrawal given additional charge of Prasar Bharati CEO
- Doordarshan and Doordarshan News Director-General Mayank Kumar Agrawal has been given the additional charge of Prasar Bharati Chief Executive Officer (CEO).
- Shashi Shekhar Vempati who was appointed as CEO of the public broadcaster in June 2017, on the recommendation of a three-member committee headed by the then Vice-President completed his tenure of years.
9. Chandigarh: PGI’s Resource Centre For Tobacco Control Awarded By WHO
- Recognising its efforts in advancing tobacco control, the WHO has awarded the Resource Centre for Tobacco Control (e-RCTC) of the Department of Community Medicine and School of Public Health at the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) in Chandigarh with the Regional Director Special Recognition Award.
10. OECD slashes India’s GDP growth forecast to 6.9% in FY23
- India’s real GDP is projected to grow by 6.9% in fiscal year FY 2022-23 and 6.2% in FY 2023-24, as the country’s economy loses momentum due to high inflation, and rising global energy and food prices.
- Says the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) in its latest report.
11. National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) sets new Guinness World Record, lays 75-km long highway in 105 hrs
- Union Minister Nitin Gadkari has announced that a new Guinness World Record was created by NHAI in laying 75 km of bituminous concrete in a single lane on NH53 in 105 hours and 33 minutes.
- The project was implemented by NHAI and Raj Path Infracon Pvt Ltd.

12. Minister of Education launches Polyversity- World’s Largest Educational Metaverse & Bharat Blockchain Network
- IDS launched Bharat Blockchain Network (Academic Blockchain Consortium) & Polyversity (Educational Metaverse) in the presence of Dharmendra Pradhan – Minister for Education and Skill and Entrepreneurship, Govt. of India and AICTE officials at an event organised at AICTE Auditorium.
- The event is to upskill or reskill one crore students in emerging technologies.
13. SMBSaathi Utsav: WhatsApp Launches New Initiative To Help Small Businesses
- WhatsApp India has launched SMBSaathi Utsav – an initiative to support small businesses by helping them adopt digital mediums such as the WhatsApp Business App to run their business.
- The initiative of WhatsApp aims to educate and help small businesses unlock the potential of their business through WhatsApp.
