1. Indian Railways will be the largest Railway in world to have 100 per cent electrification by 2030
  • Railway Minister Piyush Goyal said that Indian Railways will be the largest Railway in the world to have 100% electrification replacing diesel.
  • He expressed hope that it will be the world’s first Green Railways running on 100 per cent clean energy by 2030.
  • Indian Railways is 4th largest rail network in the world by size.

3. NITI Aayog’s Atal Innovation Mission launches app development module for school students
  • The Atal Innovation Mission of NITI Aayog launched a free online app development course.
  • Named, ‘ATL App Development Module’, the online course aims to make mobile application-developers of school students under Atal Tinkering Lab initiative of AIM.
  • It has been jointly developed by AIM and Indian start-up Plezmo.

5. Maharashtra govt, SBI to set up stress fund for stuck slum rehabilitation projects
  • The govt of Maharashtra along with the State Bank of India is setting up a stress fund to restart stuck slum rehabilitation projects in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region & other urban areas of the state.
  • Slum Rehabilitation Authority (SRA) is the nodal agency.
  • Government to infuse Rs 700 crore to Rs 1000 crore for revival.

6. India’s 2018 Tiger Census sets a new Guinness World Record
  • India’s 2018 tiger census has entered Guinness Book of World Record for being the largest camera trip wildlife survey, yet.
  • The fourth edition of the tiger census, in 2018-19 was the ‘most comprehensive’ to date, in terms of both resource and data amassed.
  • India now has an estimated 2967 tigers as per the latest census.

7.. Chhattisgarh organises India’s first e-Lok Adalat
  • Under e-Lok Adalat, held in Chhattisgarh, virtual hearings were conducted through video conferencing.
  • In the wake of pandemic, the High Court and Chhattisgarh State Legal Services Authority decided to organize e-Lok Adalat for resolving the pending cases.
  • This is the first ‘State-Level’ e-Lok Adalat of India.

8. Indian battalion wins UNIFIL environment award
  • UNIFIL = United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon.
  • An Indian battalion stationed with the UNIFIL, has won an environment award for a project, that aims to decrease waste generation, reuse plastic, build greenhouses and compost pits.
  • UNIFIL is a UN-NATO peacekeeping mission headquartered in Lebanon

9. His Holiness Dalai Lama’s biography to release in 2020
  • The 352-page book, “His Holiness the Fourteenth Dalai Lama: An Illustrated Biography”, in making for nearly 5 years, has been written by one of Dalai Lama’s closest aides & advisor of over 40 years -Tenzin Geyche Tethong.
  • It is to be released in October.
  • Dalai Lama was awarded the Noble Peace Prize in 1989.

10. SEBI rejigs advisory committee on mutual funds
  • SEBI revamped its committee that advises the capital markets regulator on matters related to regulation & development of mutual fund industry.
  • The 20-member advisory committee is headed Usha Thorat.
  • Earlier, it was 15-member panel headed by Janaki Ballabh.
  • Usha Thorat is a former Deputy Governor of RBI.

11. Mushtaque Ahmad resigns as HI chief, Ningombam nominated new President
  • Hockey India named Gyanendro Ningombam as the officiating president at the Emergent Executive Board meeting after Mushtaque Ahmad resigned.
  • Ahmad had been in his role as president of the national sports body since 2018.
  • He was earlier the secretary-general.

12. ISRO Prepares To Launch Brazil’s Amazonia-1 Satellite
  • The Indian Space Research Organisation is gearing up to lift off Brazil’s Amazonia-1 satellite onboard the Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV).
  • Amazonia-1 will be the first satellite for Earth Observation that is designed, assembled and tested in Brazil.
  • It is to help in observing & monitoring deforestation in Amazon.
