1. RBI allows NBFCs time till September 30 to comply with new NPA norms
- The Reserve Bank of India has extended the timeline by six months for NBFCs to adhere to the new NPA recognition norms.
- Earlier the regulator had set March 31 deadline for non-bank lenders to upgrade NPAs only after all arrears and principal dues are paid.
- NBFCs will have time till September 30, 2022 to put in place the necessary systems to implement this provision.
2. Veteran singer-composer Bappi Lahiri dies in Mumbai at 69
- Veteran singer-composer Bappi Lahiri died in a Mumbai hospital following multiple health issues.
- He was 69.
- Bappi Lahiri was suffering from Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) and recurrent chest infection.
- Fondly known as Bappi da, he was as much known for his hit numbers as he was for his fascination for gold.
3. India, Australia and Singapore conduct international workshop on marine plastic debris
- The Government of India, in partnership with the Government of Australia and the Government of Singapore, conducted an international workshop on combating marine pollution focusing on marine plastic debris.
- The workshop held virtually, bought together with the world’s leading experts, scientists, government officials with policy expertise, and representatives from industry.
4. Centre bans 54 Chinese apps including those belonging to Alibaba and Tencent
- The Indian government, which banned 224 Chinese apps in three rounds in 2020, has now issued fresh orders to ban around 54 Chinese apps.
- Many of the apps belong to large companies such as Alibaba and Tencent and have resurfaced in new avatars.
- The union government has issued fresh orders to ban over 54 Chinese apps, terming them a threat to privacy and security of Indians.
5. Jio Platforms to invest US$200 million in Glance
- Jio Platforms, the subsidiary of Reliance Industries (RIL), is investing $200 million in Glance, an AI-driven lock-screen platform from InMobi, in a series D funding round.
- Glance has also entered into a business partnership arrangement with Reliance Retail Ventures Limited, which will provide Glance’s ‘lock-screen platform’ on JioPhone Next smartphones.
6. India, Australia ink letter of intent on new and renewable energy technology
- India and Australia have inked a letter of intent for working together towards reducing the cost of new and renewable energy technologies and scaling up their deployment to reduce emission globally.
- The letter of intent (LoI) was signed at the 4th India – Australia Energy Dialogue, as per a power ministry statement.
7. KVB, UNANU Technologies tie-up for digital freight finance
- Karur Vysya Bank (KVB) has joined hands with the Chennai-based UNANU Technologies for digital freight finance to fund transport contractors.
- It uses the end-to-end logistics technology platform.
- UNANU has built the Freight Financing System within their suite of software platforms.
8. Ministry of Corporate Affairs introduces detailed CSR disclosure framework
- Putting the online compliance in order, the Union ministry of corporate affairs has put in place a detailed disclosure framework for CSR spending by companies.
- According to the new compliance roadmap, the companies will now be required to fill Form CSR-2 (Report on Corporate Social Responsibility).

11. Dabur becomes first Indian plastic waste neutral’ FMCG company in India
- Dabur India, India’s largest Ayurveda company has become a complete plastic waste neutral firm in the country after collecting, processing and recycling around 27,000 metric tonnes of post-consumer plastic waste during FY21-22.
- With this, Dabur has become the first Indian consumer goods company to achieve this landmark.
12. Centre reduces agri-cess for Crude Palm Oil from 7.5 percent to five percent to provide further relief to consumers
- With a view to provide further relief to consumers and to keep in check any further rise in the prices of domestic edible oils, the Centre has reduced the agri-cess for Crude Palm Oil from 5 percent to 5 percent.
- The current basic rate of import duty of zero percent on Crude Palm Oil, Crude Soyabean oil, and Crude Sunflower Oil upto 30th of September this year.
13. Jaisalmer Desert Festival begins in Rajasthan

14. Centre’s GDP deflator forecast for FY23 is 3-3.5%
- Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said that the Centre’s gross domestic product (GDP) deflator projection for 2022-23 is 3 to 3.5 per cent.
- This means that the government’s own real GDP growth projection for the coming fiscal year is in the range of 7.6-8.1 per cent, given that the Union Budget assumes a nominal GDP growth rate of 11.1 per cent for FY23.
