1. Legendary Odia musician Prafulla Kar passes away at 83

  • Lyricist, singer and music director Prafulla Kar passed away at the age of 83.
  • Kar was awarded Padma Shri in 2015 for his contribution to the field of arts.
  • He was also the recipient of the Jayadeva Award in the year 2004.
  • Born on 16 February 1939 in Puri, Kar was an eminent musician, singer, lyricist, writer and columnist.

2. Army Commanders’ Conference begins in New Delhi

  • Army Commanders’ Conference, an apex level biannual event has begun in New Delhi and will continue till 22nd of this month.
  • The conference is an institutional platform for conceptual-level deliberations, culminating in making important policy decisions for the Indian Army.

3. Kotak Mahindra Bank launches Kotak FYN

  • Kotak Mahindra Bank (KMBL) has launched the Kotak FYN, its new enterprise portal exclusive for Business Banking and Corporate clients.
  • The bank’s customers can use the portal to carry out all trade & services transactions.
  • By the last quarter of 2022, the Kotak FYN portal will include many other services, including account services, payments and collections.

4. India gets elected to four UN ECOSOC bodies

  • India has been elected to four key bodies of the UN Economic and Social Council, including the Commission on Science and Technology for Development.
  • The Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) is one of the six principal organs of the UN System established by the UN Charter in 1945.
  • It consists of 54 members of the United Nations elected by the General Assembly.

5. Trishakti Corps conducts EX KRIPAN SHAKTI at Siliguri’s Teesta field firing range

  • The Trishakti Corps conducted EX KRIPAN SHAKTI, an Integrated Fire Power exercise at Teesta Field Firing Ranges (TFFR) near Siliguri in West Bengal.
  • The exercise was aimed at orchestrating and synergizing the capabilities of the Indian Army and the Central Armed Police Forces to fight an integrated battle.

6. Prabhat Patnaik selected for Malcolm Adiseshiah Award 2022

  • Renowned Indian economist and political commentator Prabhat Patnaik has been selected for the 2022 Malcom Adiseshiah Award.
  • The award is annually given by the Malcolm and Elizabeth Adiseshiah Trust to an outstanding social scientist selected from nominations received by a specially constituted national jury.

7. Financing for Sustainable Development Report 2022

  • The crippling cost of debt financing for many developing countries has hamstrung their recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic, forced cutbacks in development spending, and constrained their ability to respond to further shocks, according to a new report launched by the United Nations.
  • The pandemic shock plunged 77 million more people into extreme poverty in 2021.

8. Waterways Conclave 2022-Regional Connectivity through Waterways held in Dibrugarh, Assam

  • The Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways along with Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI) is organizing Waterways Conclave 2022 in Dibrugarh, Assam.
  • As many as six memorandums of understanding (MoUs) were signed on the second day of the waterways conclave held at Dibrugarh in Assam.

9. Radio Aksh: India’s 1st Internet Radio For Visually Challenged Launched In Nagpur

  • Nagpur’s 96-year-old institution, The Blind Relief Association Nagpur (TBRAN) and Samdrushti Kshamata Vikas Avam Anusandhan Mandal (Saksham) are the organisations behind this idea.
  • The channel will be available on various internet radio platforms for free.
  • To be run 24×7, Radio Aksh would initially have six hours of content.

10. HDFC Bank to raise Rs 50,000 cr via bonds; re-appoints Renu Karnad as director

  • HDFC Bank said it will raise up to Rs 50,000 crore in the next one year by issuing bonds aimed at financing infrastructure and affordable housing loan requirements of the customers.
  • It also informed that the board has approved to re-appoint Renu Karnad as non-executive director on the board of the bank for a period of five years with effect from September 3, 2022.

11. Cricketer Joe Root steps down from England’s Test captaincy

  • England’s Joe Root today announced his decision to step down from Test captaincy after five years in charge.
  • Root had come under pressure after England slumped to a 4-0 defeat in the last Ashes series and lost 1-0 in West Indies.

  • The Ministry of Panchayati Raj is organising National Conference on Localisation of SDGs on Healthy Village and Socially Secured Village to mark the Iconic Week celebrations in the light of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav.
  • It has conceptualised series of thematic Conferences to commemorate this momentous occasion in the right spirit, taking a “whole-of-society” & “whole-of-government”
