1. RBI CBDC: Digital Rupee pilot to start from November 1; SBI, HDFC, 7 other banks to participate in wholesale launch

  • The regulator has identified nine banks including State Bank of India, Bank of Baroda, Union Bank of India, HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, Kotak Mahindra Bank, YES Bank, IDFC First Bank and HSBC for participation in the pilot.
  • The use case for this pilot is settlement of secondary market transactions in government securities.
  • Use of e₹-W is expected to make the inter-bank market more efficient.
  • What is e₹ (Digital Rupee)?
    • Digital rupee, also known as Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC), is a digital form of currency notes issued by the RBI.
    • It is substantially similar to banknotes, but being digital it is likely to be easier, faster and cheaper.
    • All transactional benefits will be the same as other forms of digital money.

2. Arunachal Pradesh to get Northeast’s first fish museum

  • A fish museum, the first of its kind in the Northeast, would soon be built in Arunachal Pradesh.
  • The museum would be a part of the Integrated Aqua Park (IAP), sanctioned by the Union Ministry of Fisheries.
  • It will have all fish species of the state and serve as a training centre for fisherfolks.

3. HARIT Aaykar initiative by Income Tax Department for increasing greenery and creating micro forests

  • The Income Tax Department has launched the HARIT Aaykar (Hariyali Achievement Resolution by Income Tax) initiative.
  • Under this initiative, the Department resolves to increase the green cover by planting trees and creating micro-forests in and around Income Tax Department’s buildings and other public areas.

4. Centre approves Maharashtra’s first Electronics Manufacturing Cluster at Ranjangaon, near Pune

  • As part of its objective to strengthen the electronics manufacturing ecosystem in India, the Ministry of Electronics and IT has approved the greenfield Electronics Manufacturing Cluster (EMC) with the project cost of Rs 492.85 crores to be set up in Ranjangaon Phase III, near Pune in Maharashtra.
  • In 2014 92% mobile phones used by Indian customers were imported, but now 97% of all mobile phones were domestically manufactured.

5. ‘Steel Man of India’ Jamshed J Irani passes away at 86

  • The former Tata Steel MD (managing director) Dr Jamshed J Irani, known as the ‘Steel Man of India’, passed away.
  • He was 86.
  • He was associated with Tata Steel for more than 40 years.
  • He was conferred an honorary knighthood by Queen Elizabeth II in 1997.
  • In 2007 he received Padma Bhushan for his contribution to industry.

8. Tata Trusts ropes in Cyrus Mistry’s cousin Mehli Mistry as trustee on board

  • Tata Trusts has inducted Cyrus Mistry’s cousin Mehli Mistry as a trustee on board of Sir Ratan Tata Trust and Sir Dorabji Tata Trust.
  • The inclusion takes place even as Tata Trusts announced the retirement of its first professional CEO Srinath Narasimhan, 60, who was appointed in 2020.

9. PM Modi lays foundation stone of transport aircraft manufacturing project at Vadodara

  • The Prime Minister laid the foundation stone of C-295MW transport aircraft manufacturing project at Vadodara, Gujarat.
  • It will be India’s first transport aircraft manufacturing project worth around 22,000 crore rupees.
  • C-295MW transport aircrafts will be manufactured in India by private companies, Airbus Defence and TATA consortium.

10. Shri Dharmendra Pradhan signs MoU with FIFA and AIFF for implementing Football4Schools initiative in India

  • Dharmendra Pradhan, on behalf of the Ministry of Education signed the MoU with FIFA and All India Football Federation for the ‘Football4Schools’ initiative in India.
  • FIFA President, Gianni Infantino, and All India Football Federation President, Shri Kalyan Chaubey signed the MoU on behalf of respective organisations.
  • ‘Football4Schools’ aims to empower 25 million young boys and girls in India through sports-integrated learning.
  • It will also empower and provide coach-educators with the training to deliver sport and life-skills activities

11. ECI to host two-day international conference from October 31 in New Delhi

  • The Election Commission of India (ECI) hosted a two-day international conference beginning on 31st of October in New Delhi on the theme ‘Role, Framework & Capacity of Election Management Bodies’.
  • The conference has been inaugurated by Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar.
  • The concluding session was chaired by Election Commissioner Anup Chandra Pandey.

12. West Bengal govt’s Lakshmir Bhandar bags the SKOCH Award

  • West Bengal has bagged the prestigious SKOCH award in the women and child development category for its popular ‘Lakshmir Bhandar’ scheme.
  • Instituted in 2003, SKOCH Award is given to the best of governance, inclusive growth, excellence in technology and applications, change management, corporate leadership, corporate governance, citizen services delivery, capacity building and others.
  • About the Scheme:
    • The West Bengal government had launched the scheme in August 2021 to provide financial support to a woman head of a family and is in the age group of 25-60 years.
    • Under the scheme Rs 500 per month is being given in respect of the general caste category and around Rs 1,000 per month for those in the SC and ST categories.
