- Reserve Bank of India’s Study report ‘Governance, Efficiency and Soundness of Indian Banks’ says that, Although banks in India have made significant progress in adhering to governance standards over the recent years,
- The current level of compliance is not adequate to mark the existing governance structure as “socially efficient”.
2. Maharashtra govt to take Rs 4000 cr loan from Asian Development Bank to set up medical colleges in 12 districts
- The Maharashtra government will take a loan of 4,000 crore rupees from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) for setting up medical colleges in 12 districts of the state.
- There are 12 districts in the state without a single medical college.
- These districts include Jalgaon, Satara, Alibaug, Sindhudurg, Usmanabad, Parbhani, Amravati, Ratnagiri, Gadhchiroli, Bhandara and Ambernath.

3. Grameen Udyami Project launched in Ranchi for tribal skill development
- National Skill Development Corporation in partnership with Seva Bharti and Yuva Vikas Society on Saturday launched the second phase of Grameen Udyami Project to augment skill training in tribal communities for their inclusive and sustainable growth.
- Under the initiative, the endeavour is to multiskill India’s youth and impart functional skills to them for enabling livelihood.

4. Under-20 World Wrestling Championships: Antim Panghal becomes first Indian woman wrestler to win Gold Medal
- 17-year-old Haryana wrestler Antim Panghal has become the first Indian woman wrestler to win a Gold medal at Under-20 World Wrestling Championship in Sofia, Bulgaria.
- She scored an 8-0 win over Atlyn Shagayeva of Kazakhstan in 53kg category to achieve this feat.
- This gold medal is historic as India has never won any gold medal in women’s wrestling at U20 World Championships.

5. Vistara 2nd in market share with 10%, behind IndiGo’s 59%
- Full service Vistara emerged as the second biggest airline by domestic market share in July with a 10.4% pie of the sky, distantly second to the market leader IndiGo at 58.8%, according to DGCA data.
- SpiceJet had the highest occupancy on domestic flights at 84.7% last month, followed by Vistara at 84.3%.

8. CCI clears proposed merger of Creixent Special Steels and JSW Ispat with JSW Steel
- Fair trade regulator Competition Commission of India (CCI) approved the proposal to merge Creixent Special Steels and JSW Ispat into JSW Steel.

- Separately, the watchdog has cleared the proposed acquisition of Varmora Granito Pvt Ltd and other entities by the Carlyle Group entity Katsura Investments.

- The Shipping Ministry has proposed establishing a national council for structured growth and development of the port sector in the draft Indian Ports Bill.

- In this State and UT, people from all the villages have declared their village as Har Ghar Jal through a resolution passed by the Gram Sabha.

11. Indian, Chinese troops to take part in Vostok-2022 military exercises in Russia
- China said that its troops will take part in the Vostok-2022 military exercises in Russia to be held later this month.
- India, Belarus, Tajikistan, Mongolia, and other countries will also participate in the drills.
- Last year also, India attended Exercise ZAPAD 2021 drills in Russia in which 17 countries including China and Pakistan took part.
- The Vostok-2022 exercises will be held from 30 August – 5 September.

- The tenure of Dr V G Somani as the Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI) has been extended by three months.
- DCGI heads the Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO) which is responsible to ensure the quality of drug supply across the country.
- Dr Somani was appointed DCGI for a term of three years on August 14, 2019.
