1. Takuya Tsumura appointed as new President & CEO of Honda Cars India

  • Japanese auto major Honda Motor Co. Ltd. has announced the appointment of Takuya Tsumura as the new President & CEO of Honda Cars India Ltd (HCIL) with effect from 1 April 2022.
  • The appointment comes as part of the management changes announced annually by the company.

2. Mahindra Electric collaborates with CSC to promote EV adoption in rural India

  • Mahindra Electric Mobility Ltd (MEML) has partnered with Common Service Centres (CSC), a government organisation that helps provide employment in rural India, to promote adoption of electric vehicles.
  • Through this association with CSC, MEML will offer its range of electric vehicles like the Treo and Alfa to aspiring customers in the rural markets.

3. Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya inaugurates two new Departments, two new Research Centres at IIPS Mumbai

  • Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya has inaugurated two new Departments and two new Research Centres at International Institute for Population Sciences (IIPS) in Deonar, Mumbai.
  • The newly inaugurated departments are ‘Department of Survey Research and Data Analytics’ and the ‘Department of Family and Generations’.
  • The new Centres are called ‘Centre of Demography of Gender’ & ‘Centre for Ageing Studies’.

4. 48th Khajuraho Dance Festival begins in Madhya Pradesh

  • The 48th Khajuraho Dance Festival commenced in Madhya Pradesh.
  • The week-long festival will be held till February 26th.
  • Governor of Madhya Pradesh Mangubhai Patel inaugurated the festival at Khajuraho.
  • ‘Khajuraho Dance Festival’ is being organized in Khajuraho, located in Chhatarpur district of Madhya Pradesh.
  • The festival is being organized on the theme of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav.

5. Union Steel Minister RCP Singh lays foundation stone for coke oven plant in Mangaluru

  • Union Minister for Steel Ram Chandra Prasad Singh laid the foundation stone for the Coke Oven Plant (1,80,000 tonnes per annum) at the blast furnace unit in KIOCL Limited in Panambur.
  • The project, planned at a total cost of Rs 836.90 cr, also includes the setting up of 2.0 L tonnes per annum ductile Iron spun plant.
  • The Coke oven project would be completed within 20 months.

6. Emergency response system Dial 112 debuts in Meghalaya

  • Meghalaya chief secretary RV Suchiang inaugurated the Nationwide Emergency Response System (NERS) / Emergency Response Support System (ERSS) or Dial “112”, at Sadar Police Station Complex.
  • It is an endeavour of the Union home ministry to launch a unified response system with a single number for all kinds of emergencies and distress.

7. Chetan Ghate succeeds Ajit Mishra as director of Institute of Economic Growth

  • The Institute of Economic Growth has appointed Chetan Ghate as the new director succeeding Ajit Mishra.
  • Ghate, who was a member of the Reserve Bank of India’s first monetary policy committee between 2016-2020.
  • He is the winner of the 2014 Mahalanobis Memorial gold medal for the best research economist in the country under the age of 45.

8. Brahmos supersonic cruise missile successfully test-fired from INS Visakhapatnam

  • India successfully test-fired a naval variant of the advanced supersonic BrahMos cruise missile from a stealth guided-missile destroyer of the Indian Navy.
  • The Indian Navy’s warship INS Visakhapatnam carried out a test firing of BrahMos supersonic cruise missile off the western seaboard.

9. MoU Signed between Ministry of Tourism and Alliance Air Aviation Limited

  • The Ministry of Tourism in order to boost tourism throughout the country signed a Memorandum of Understanding with M/s Alliance Air Aviation Limited (AAAL).
  • The MoU was signed with a view to achieve the common purpose of joint domestic promotion and considering the need to synergize the activities of MoT and AAAL in the tourism markets.

10. Union Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways & AYUSH virtually flagged off the Water Taxi for citizens of Mumbai.

  • Union Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways & AYUSH Shri Sarbananda Sonowal today virtually flagged off the ‘Most Awaited’ Water Taxi for citizens of Mumbai, from Belapur Jetty.
  • The Water Taxi services will commence from the Domestic Cruise Terminal (DCT) and will also connect nearby locations at Nerul, Belapur, Elephanta island, and JNPT.

11. Government approves ‘ New India Literacy Programme, a new scheme of Adult Education for FYs 2022-27”

  • Government-approved a new scheme “New India Literacy Programme for the period FYs 2022-2027 to cover all the aspects of Adult Education to align with National Education Policy 2020 and Budget Announcements 2021-22.
  • The National Education Policy 2020 has recommendations for Adult Education and Lifelong Learning.
