1. PM Modi inaugurates B R Ambedkar School of Economics campus in Bengaluru

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the new campus of Dr B R Ambedkar School of Economics (BASE) University in Bengaluru and also unveiled a statue of the architect of Indian Constitution installed at the campus.
  • At the event, he also unveiled 150 Technology Hubs’ that have been developed by transforming the Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) across Karnataka.

2. To upskill construction workers Govt launches NIPUN scheme

  • The project NIPUN is an initiative of the Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs (MoHUA) under its flagship scheme of the Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana-National Urban Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NULM) to train over 1 lakh construction workers, through fresh skilling and upskilling programmes and provides them with work opportunities in foreign countries also.
  • ‘NIPUN’ i.e. National Initiative for Promoting Upskilling of Nirman workers.

3. Union minister bishweswar tudu inaugurates 20th Folk Fair, 13th Krishi Fair at Puri in Odisha

  • Minister of State for Tribal Affairs and Jal Shakti, Bishweswar Tudu inaugurated the 20th Folk Fair (National tribal / folk song & dance festival) and 13th Krishi Fair 2022 at Saradhabali in Puri, Odisha.
  • The two fairs which aimed at preserving tribal culture and promoting innovation in agriculture respectively will continue for five days and conclude on 24th June.

4. Centre for Brain Research at IISc Bengaluru inaugurated by the PM

  • PM Narendra Modi inaugurated the Centre for Brain Research and laid the foundation stone for Bagchi Parthasarathy Multispeciality Hospital at IISc Bengaluru.
  • The Centre for Brain Research is developed as a one of its kind research facility & focuses on conducting vital research to provide evidence-based public health interventions to manage age-related brain disorders.

5. To advise on premises related matters SEBI forms Building Advisory Committee

  • Capital markets regulator SEBI has formed a Building Advisory Committee, which will advise and assist it in all the premises related matters such as planning, acquisition and furnishing.
  • The seven-member committee will be headed by B K Katyal, former Chief General Manager at RBI.

6. TCS, HDFC Bank, Infosys and LIC join Apple, Google & Amazon as world’s top 100 brands

  • Four Indian companies namely TCS, HDFC Bank, Infosys and LIC were featured in the ‘Most Valuable Global Brands’ by Kantar Brandz 2022
  • TCS was the most valuable brand coming out of India, which sat on the 46th spot of the list.
  • It was second in Asia Pacific Region, second to Samsung.
  • Apple was the most valuable brand in the world, with a brand value of $947 billion.
  • HDFC Bank was the fourth biggest bank in the world in terms of brand value.

7. Pakistan remains in FATF ‘grey list’ for terror financing, money laundering, but nearing exit

  • Pakistan got a reprieve from the Paris based Financial Action Task Force (FATF) international watchdog as it announced that the country could be removed from the “grey list” after a visit by a fact-finding team to verify the measures it has taken to deal with terror financing.
  • FATF noted Pakistan’s claims of actions to curb terror funding.
  • Marcus Pleyer is the President of FATF.

8. China launches third, most ‘advanced aircraft’ carrier named ‘Fujian’

  • China launched its third aircraft carrier, the country’s most advanced as well as the first “fully domestically built” naval vessel, as an aggressive Beijing sought to extend the range of its navy in the strategic Indo-Pacific region.
  • The Fujian is China’s first domestically designed and built catapult aircraft carrier.

9. FIFA unveils host cities for 2026 World Cup

  • FIFA has announced the 16 North American cities that will host the World Cup in 2026.
  • Eleven cities in the U.S., along with three cities in Mexico and two in Canada, will host the 48-team tournament, an expansion from the previous 32-team count.
  • It will be the first time three nations have been appointed to host the World Cup.

10. Govt declares ICICI, HDFC, NPCI’s IT resources as critical information infra

  • Ministry of Electronics and IT (MeitY), in the notification dated June 16, declared the IT resources of ICICI Bank, HDFC Bank and UPI managing entity NPCI as ‘critical information infrastructure’, implying any harm to them can have an impact on national security and any unauthorised person accessing these resources may be jailed for up to 10 years.

11. Well-known photojournalist R Raveendran passes away

  • Well-known photojournalist R Raveendran, who clicked the iconic picture of Delhi University student Rajiv Goswami setting himself on fire during the Mandal Commission agitation that intensified the protests leading to VP Singh government’s resignation,passed away.

12. India’s Anahat Singh wins Asian Junior Squash title in under-15 category

  • Indian player Anahat Singh won the gold medal in the girls Under-15 category at the Asian Juniors Squash Championships in Pattaya, Thailand.
  • The 14-year-old Anahat defeated Kwong Ena of Hong Kong 3-0 in the final to claim the top prize.
  • She is the only Indian girl to win the US Junior Open in any category and the British Junior Open.

13. RBI suspends license of Millath Co-operative Bank due to inadequate capital

  • The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has cancelled the license of Millath Co-operative Bank Ltd., Davangere in Karnataka.
  • The bank does not have adequate capital and earning prospects.
  • As such, it does not comply with the provisions of Section 11(1) and Section 22 (3) (d) read with Section 56 of the Banking Regulation Act, 1949, says RBI.

14. CIDCO gets SBI’s Rs 5,000-crore line of credit for PMAY mega housing scheme

  • The Maharashtra government’s town planning and infrastructure development authority, the City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO), has secured a fund-based Line of Credit (LOC) worth Rs 5,000 crore from the State Bank of India (SBI) for the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) mass housing project in Navi Mumbai.
  • SBI has sanctioned the line of at a very affordable rate of only 6%.

15. Author and Zen Buddhist priest Ruth Ozeki wins Women’s Prize for Fiction

  • Renowned US-Canadian author, film-maker, and Zen Buddhist priest Ruth Ozeki has won the Women’s Prize for Fiction this year for her novel ‘The Book of Form and Emptiness’.
  • Ozeki’s fourth novel, ‘The Book of Form and Emptiness’ tells the story of a thirteen-year-old boy who, after the tragic death of his father, starts to hear the voices of objects speaking to him.

16. New thick-thumbed bat species discovered in bamboo forest in Meghalaya

  • A team of scientists has discovered a new species of thick-thumbed bat from a bamboo forest near Lailad in Ri-Bhoi district in Meghalaya, which is adjoining to Nongkhyllem Wildlife Sanctuary.
  • With this new discovery, the total number of bat species known from India stands at 131 species with Meghalaya harbouring the highest bat diversity with 67 species.
  • The bat species was named after the state as Glischropus meghalayanus.

17. Somali president appoints Hamza Abdi Barre as prime minister

  • Somali president Hassan Sheikh Mohamud appointed Hamza Abdi Barre, a former chairman of the Jubbaland state election commission,as the country’s Prime Minister.
  • Last month Mohamud won the presidency for the second time, having previously served from 2012 to 2017.
  • Capital of Somalia: Mogadishu.
  • Currency: Somali shilling.

18. China takes over as biggest importer of Indian broken rice

  • China emerged as the top buyer of Indian rice during the pandemic, with the neighbouring country importing 16.34 lakh metric tonnes (LMT) or 7.7% of India’s total rice export of 212.10 LMT in financial year 2021-22, according to an analysis of trade data.
  • The analysis shows that out of China’s total rice import from India of 16.34 LMT, nearly 97 per cent was broken rice.
