1. CCI Approves Jio Cinema OTT Merger With Viacom18 Media
- The approval of the Competition Commission of India (CCI) is required for deals that entail acquisition of shares, assets, control or voting rights if the involved parties have assets in excess of INR 2,000 Cr in India or a turnover in excess of INR 6,000 Cr.
- This is strictly to ensure the prevention of unfair trade practices in the business.

2. India defends its decision to ban rice, wheat exports at WTO
- In May 2022, India restricted export of wheat to enhance domestic availability.
- This month, it also banned export of broken rice and imposed a 20 per cent export duty on non-Basmati rice except for parboiled rice to boost domestic supplies amid a fall in area under paddy crop in the current kharif season.

3. Vitamin Angels India partners with UNICEF India for Poshan Maah 2022 to combat under-nutrition
- Larger scope of the partnership includes the launch of the Poshan Innovation Platform in January 2023 with the aim to combat undernutrition in the country.
- The platform is to develop continuous sandboxing of ideas, mentoring by experts, & seed funding by the private sector.
- A phase-wise approach will be followed to assemble the PIP between September 2022 & December 2026.
- POSHAN Abhiyaan is Government of India’s flagship programme to improve nutritional outcomes for children under 6 years of age, pregnant women and lactating mothers.
4. 30 kN Hybrid Motor Successfully Tested by ISRO at ISRO Propulsion Complex (IPRC)
- VSSC/ISRO successfully tested a hybrid motor at ISRO Propulsion Complex (IPRC), Mahendragiri, supported by Liquid Propulsion Systems Centre (LPSC).
- The motor used Hydroxyl-terminated polybutadiene (HTPB) as fuel and liquid oxygen (LOX) as the oxidizer.
- Unlike solid-solid or liquid-liquid combinations, a hybrid motor uses solid fuel and liquid oxidizer.

5. Dharmendra Pradhan launches SCALE app for skill development in leather industry
- Union Minister for education and skill development Dharmendra Pradhan has launched the Skill Certification Assessment for Leather Employees (SCALE) app which aims to provide a one-stop solution for the skilling, learning, assessment, and employment needs of the leather industry.
- The app was launched at the Central Leather Research Institute (CSIR), Chennai.

- Tomar virtually addressed the Leeds-2022 conference organized by the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) in New Delhi.
- In the session on Food for All-Farm to Fork, the Minister said, the country’s agriculture sector has registered a growth of 3.9 percent despite the Covid pandemic.
7. Comedian Raju Srivastava passes away at the age of 58
- Popular comedian Raju Srivastava, who had been admitted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences in the Capital, about six weeks ago, passed away.
- He was active in the entertainment industry since the late 1980s.
- He appeared in cameo roles in films such as Maine Pyar Kiya, Baazigar, Bombay to Goa and Aamdani Atthanni Kharcha Rupaiya, among others.
- He was also the chairman of Film Development Council Uttar Pradesh.
8. Japan’s MUFG Bank injects ₹3,000 crore in India biz
- Japan’s MUFG Bank provided 30 billion rupees ($380 million) in additional capital to five branches in India to meet growing demand for loans.
- The infusion brings the total capital base of the MUFG branches to 52 billion rupees, excluding surplus capital.
- Indian regulations limit the amount banks can lend to a single borrower to 20% of their capital funds.

9. RBI approves appointment of R Gandhi as non-executive chairman of Yes Bank
- The Reserve Bank has approved the appointment of its former deputy governor Rama Subramaniam Gandhi as non-executive part time chairman of Yes Bank for 3 years.
- He also had a three-year secondment to the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) and also held the charge of Director of the Institute for Development and Research in Banking Technology (IDRBT), Hyderabad.

10. RBI governor launches three key digital payment initiatives at Global Fintech Fest 2022
- Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Governor Shaktikanta Das, in the presence of Nandan Nilekani, Chairman Infosys and Advisor to NPCI; and Biswamohan Mahapatra, Chairman National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), launched three key initiatives during the Global Fintech Fest 2022 – RuPay Credit Card on UPI, UPI LITE, and Bharat BillPay Cross-Border Bill Payments.
11. Maharashtra’s Daulatabad Fort to be renamed as ‘Devgiri’ Fort
- The Maharashtra government will rename the Daulatabad fort located near Aurangabad city to its old name ‘Devgiri’, state Tourism Minister Mangal Prabhat Lodha has said.
- The fort was renamed Daulatabad by Mohammed Tughlaq in the 14th Century who understood its importance as a base for military operations in southern India.

12. Indian Air Force set to retire Abhinandan Varthaman’s MiG-21 squadron by Sept end
- Indian Air Force (IAF) is all set to retire its Srinagar-based Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-21 squadron ‘Sword Arms’ that Wing Commander (Wg Cdr) Abhinandan Varthaman was a part of when he had knocked down Pakistan-based F-16 combat aircraft a day after the February 2019 Balakot strike.
- ‘Sword Arms’ is one of its four remaining squadrons of ageing MiG-21 fighter jets.
