1. Karnataka Legislative Assembly deputy speaker Vishwanath Mamani passes away at 56

  • Deputy Speaker of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly Vishwanath Chandrashekar Mamani, also known as Anand Mamani, died in a private hospital in Bengaluru.
  • He was 56.
  • Anand Mamani was a three-time legislator from the Savadatti constituency in the Belagavi district.

2. Red Bull Formula One owner Dietrich Mateschitz dies at 78

  • Austrian billionaire Dietrich Mateschitz, the co-founder of energy drink company Red Bull and founder and owner of the Red Bull Formula One racing team, has died.
  • He was 78.
  • The Red Bull Racing team has enjoyed success in Formula 1, winning the constructors’ championship in 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013.

3. 14th World Spice Congress (WPC) to be held in 2023 in Mumbai on the sidelines of the G20 Meet

  • The 14th World Spice Congress will be held from February 16 to 18, 2023 at CIDCO Exhibition and Convention Centre, Navi Mumbai, Maharashtra.
  • The World Spice Congress, which is organized by Spices Board India along with various trade and export forums, will be conducted on the sidelines of India’s G20 presidency.
  • The event looks forward to deliberations on aspects such as production, processing, value addition, quality and safety, trade, and supply chain management of spices in the new normal situation.

4. Hyderabad Haleem wins ‘Most Popular GI’ food award

  • In competition with 17 food items from across India with a Geographical Indication (GI) status — including the Rasogulla, Bikaneri Bhujiya and Ratlami Sev — the Hyderabadi Haleem beat all of them to bag the ‘Most Popular GI’ award in the food category.
  • It was awarded by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Piyush Goyal at the Dr Ambedkar International Centre in New Delhi.

5. Drones to provide $100-b GDP boost, 5 lakh jobs in India, says WEF (World Economic Forum) report

  • Putting drones at the centre of a technology-led transformation of Indian agriculture can help boost the country’s GDP by 1-1.5% and create at least five lakh jobs in the coming years, the WEF said in ‘Using Technology to Improve a Billion Livelihoods’ report.
  • The report was written by the WEF’s Centre for Fourth Industrial Revolution, India, with Adani Group.

    • The World Economic Forum (WEF) is an international non-governmental and lobbying organisation.
    • The Forum is mostly known for its annual meeting, which engages the foremost political, business, cultural and other leaders of society to shape global, regional and industry agendas.

6. Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana significantly reduced patients’ out-of-pocket expenditure: Mansukh Mandaviya

  • Health Minister Dr Mansukh Mandaviya said, Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana has significantly reduced patients’ out-of-pocket expenditure.
  • It has helped in savings of 18 thousand crore rupees for the citizens in the last 8 years.
  • The scheme ensures easy reach of affordable quality medicines to the people in every nook and corner of the country.

7. ICICI Bank reappoints Sandeep Bakhshi as MD, CEO for 3 years

  • ICICI Bank’s board of directors has reappointed Sandeep Bakshi as the managing director (MD) and chief executive officer (CEO) for a period of three years.
  • He was appointed as the bank’s MD and CEO on October 15, 2018.
  • He has served as Wholetime Director and the Chief Operating Officer (COO) of the bank prior to his appointment as MD and CEO.

8. Prime Minister launches the first phase of “Rozgar Mela” to provide jobs to 10 lakh youth in Central Government

  • PM Modi launched the ‘Rozgar Mela’, a recruitment drive for 10 lakh personnel.
  • Earlier in June, the prime minister had asked various government departments and ministries to undertake the recruitment of 10 lakh people on a “mission mode” in the next year and a half.
  • Recruiting either by themselves or through recruiting agencies such as UPSC, SSC, and Railway Recruitment Board.

10. DGCA grants approval to Jeypore Airport in Odisha for flights ops, IndiaOne Air to connect with Bhubaneswar

  • The Directorate General of Civil Aviation granted aerodrome licence to Odisha’s Jeypore airport.
  • The airport will now be able to handle scheduled commercial flights under the government’s regional connectivity scheme UDAN, or Ude Desh ka Aam Naagrik.
  • The airstrip at Jeypore had become functional in 1962 at the time of inception of Hindustan Aeronautics Limited at Sunabeda.

11. Indian, US militaries conduct ‘Tiger Triumph’ humanitarian assistance exercise

  • The Indian and US militaries carried out a three-day joint humanitarian assistance exercise in Visakhapatnam in line with the growing strategic cooperation between the two countries.
  • The first exercise based out of Visakhapatnam, took place in 2019 and featured more than 500 US Marines and sailors and approximately 1,200 Indian sailors, soldiers, and airmen.
