• Gujarat was declared as a ‘Har Ghar Jal’ state, meaning all households in rural areas have access to safe drinking water through taps.
• As per the government data, all 91,73,378 houses in the state now have water connections.
• Jal Jeevan Mission is a flagship programme of Government of India which was announced from the ramparts of Red Fort by PM Modi on August 15, 2019.

4. Indian Army celebrates 76th infantry day on 27th October

5. Tata Steel’s Dutch arm signs MOU to supply Ford with green steel after 2030

• Tata Steel has inked an agreement with carmaker Ford to supply “zeremis green steel” from its Netherlands-based Iimuiden plant after the unit shifts to hydrogen-based steel making.
• In Europe, Tata Steel is working to switch to low-carbon technologies to manufacture steel in the UK and the Netherlands.
• Zeremis carbon lite steel is described as 100 per cent carbon neutral.

6. Kerala govt launches mobile app to prevent cyber crimes against children

• Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan launched the ‘Kunjapp’, a mobile application to prevent cyber crimes (physical, mental or sexual exploitation) against children in the state.
• Vijayan also inaugurated the training for the newly appointed Child Welfare Committee (CWC) and Juvenile Justice Board (JJB) members at Kovalam.

7. Union Education Ministry to organise ‘Kashi Tamil Sangamam’ month-long programme from November 16

• The Indian Institute of Technology Madras along with the Banaras Hindu University will serve as knowledge partners for Kashi Tamil Sangamam, an initiative to bring to light the academic, economic, social and cultural relations between Varanasi and the State.

8. India suffered income loss of 5.4% of GDP due to heatwave in 2021: Report

• India suffered an income loss of 5.4% of Gross Domestic Product (GDP), the highest among the G20 nations in 2021, according to the new report of Climate Transparency.
• The report highlighted that India witnessed a record heatwave that greatly affected workers, labour migrants, low-income households, and the homeless, and reduced the yields of wheat crops.
• Higher temperature resulted in the reduction of working hours, which further led to substantial income losses in services, manufacturing, agriculture, and construction.

9. Jakson Green to invest Rs 22,400 cr in green hydrogen project in Rajasthan

• Jakson Green has inked a pact to invest Rs 22,400 crore to set up a green hydrogen and green ammonia project, in phases, in Rajasthan.
• The company has signed a MoU with the government of Rajasthan to this effect.
• Jakson Green will set up a 3,65,000 tons per annum Green Hydrogen & Green Ammonia plant along with an integrated hybrid renewable power complex.

10. National Statistical Office released the Employment Outlook of India

• The National Statistical Office (NSO), Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation has released the press note on Employment Outlook of the country covering the period September, 2017 to August, 2022 based on the administrative records available with selected government agencies to assess the progress in certain dimensions.

11. Government’s Swachhata Campaign 2.0 earned Rs 254 crores in scrap, e-waste sale

• The government had earned Rs 254.21 crore from scrap disposal under the ongoing Special Cleanliness Campaign 2.0, being implemented in all government offices across India, said Union Minister Jitendra Singh.
• The Special Campaign 2.0, which started on Gandhi Jayanti, October 2 and will go on till October 31.

12. Australia approves commercial release of GM variety of Indian Mustard

• Even as India awaits clearance of genetically modified mustard, the regulatory authority in Australia approved the commercial cultivation of the genetically modified Indian mustard species called ‘Brassica juncea’ for herbicide tolerance.
• Scientists said this is the first time a genetically modified variety of Indian mustard received commercial approval anywhere in the world.

• Indian Institute of Technology Madras and NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory researchers have studied the interactions between microbes in the International Space Station.

• The Embassy of Japan in New Delhi is seeking a Geographical Indication (GI) tag for nihonshu.
• It is also the first time a product from Japan has filed for a GI tag at the Geographical Indication Registry.
• Nihonshu is an alcoholic beverage also known as Japanese sake, made from fermenting rice.
• Nihonshu is an integral part of the lifestyle and culture in Japan.

  • ‘GI tag’ is a label that is applied to products that have a specific geographical origin and have characteristics that are related to that particular location.
