1. Development of Tejas 2.0 set to take off after centre’s approval
- Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) approved the project to develop the LCA Mark 2 multirole fighter jet, a more capable and powerful version of the indigenous aircraft.
- The fighter jet will be developed at a cost of over Rs 6,500 crore, in addition to the Rs 2,500 crore previously sanctioned for it.

2. Laxman Narasimhan steps down as Reckitt Benckiser CEO; Nicandro Durante to take charge
- Reckitt Benckiser Group plc (“Reckitt”) announced that its CEO, Laxman Narasimhan will step down as Chief Executive Officer on September 30, 2022.
- Laxman will be replaced by Nicandro Durante, current Senior Independent Director, who will step into the role of CEO.
- Chairman of Reckitt: Chris Sinclair.
3. Yamuna Kumar Chaubey gets charge of NHPC chairman and managing director
- State-owned hydro power giant NHPC said that its Director (Technical) Yamuna Kumar Chaubey has been given the charge of Chairman and Managing Director for three months beginning September 1.
- Abhay Kumar Singh ceased to be the Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of the company with effect from August 31, 2022, upon attaining the age of superannuation.
4. INS Vikrant, First made in India Aircraft Carrier, Commissioned by PM
- INS Vikrant, India’s first home-built aircraft carrier, was formally commissioned after completing almost a year of sea trials.
- The 45,000-tonne warship has been built at a cost of ₹ 20,000 crore.
- PM Modi also unveiled the new Naval Ensign.
- The Navy had earlier said the new insignia will be befitting the rich Indian maritime heritage.
5. 2022 Ramon Magsaysay Award winners
- Bernadette J. Madrid, a children’s rights advocate from the Philippines, Sotheara Chhim, a mental health advocate from Cambodia; Gary Bencheghib, an anti-plastic pollution warrior from Indonesia; and Tadashi Hattori, a sight-saving humanitarian from Japan.
- Incepted in 1958, the Ramon Magsaysay Award is named after the late Philippine president.

6. UGC to launch ‘e-Samadhan’ portal for resolving grievances of students and staff
- The University Grants Commission(UGC) is all set to launch its new centralised portal called ‘e-Samadhan’ to monitor and resolve all grievances of students and staff members in varsities.
- The portal will be the one-stop solution for all grievances; and all other existing portals and helplines will be merged with it except for the anti-ragging helpline.
- UGC has a wide range of stakeholders which includes 1043 Universities, 42343 Colleges etc.
7. Reliance Industries to build world’s largest carbon fibre plants.
- Reliance Industries chairman Mukesh Ambani, in the 45th AGM on Monday, announced plans to build India’s first and one of the world’s largest Carbon Fibre plants at Hazira, Gujarat.
- The plants will have a capacity of 20,000 MTPA based on Acrylonitrile feedstock.
- Overall, in the Oil to Chemical segment (O2C), Ambani Ambani announced an investment of ₹75,000 crore.
8. India’s first vaccine against cervical cancer launched by Jitendra Singh
- In a first, India to get its first vaccine against cervical cancer on September 1.
- The cervical cancer vaccine, Quadrivalent Human Papillomavirus vaccine (qHPV), is developed by the Serum Institute of India (SII) and the Department of Biotechnology(DBT).
- It will be launched by the Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) Science & Technology Jitendra Singh
- According to WHO, 41, 91,000 women have died due to cervical cancer in India since 2019.
9. CERT-In conducts exercise Cyber Security Exercise “Synergy”
- Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In) under the Ministry of Electronics and IT, in collaboration with the Cyber Security Agency of Singapore successfully designed and conducted the Cyber Security Exercise “Synergy” for 13 Countries.
- It was a part of the International Counter Ransomware Initiative- Resilience Working Group.
- The theme of the exercise was “Building Network Resiliency to counter Ransomware Attacks”
10. India’s GDP in first quarter of current fiscal grows at 13.5 percent, fastest in a year
- According to the provisional estimates by the Ministry of Statistics & Programme Implementation, the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of the country for the April-June quarter of the current financial year grew at 13.5 per cent.
- Agriculture, Forestry & Fishing sector rose 4.5%.
- The manufacturing sector grew 4.8% and the Construction sector appreciated by 16.8%.
11. HM Amit Shah to launch “CAPF eAwas” web-portal in New Delhi
- Home Minister Amit Shah will launch the Central Armed Police Forces’ eAwas web-portal in New Delhi.
- The Ministry of Home Affairs said, increasing the Housing Satisfaction Ratio for CAPFs personnel is one of the priority areas of the Government.
- The web-portal will enable online registration and allotment of residential quarters to eligible personnel of CAPFs and Assam Rifles.
12. NCRB report says, deaths by suicide at their highest rate in 2021
- Last year, 1.64 lakh persons died by suicide, an increase of 7.2% from 2020 when 1.53 lakh persons had killed themselves.
- In 2021, the rate of suicide – the number of death due to suicides per one lakh population – stood at 12.
- These findings are from Accidental Deaths & Suicides in India (ADSI) and Crime in India (CII) reports for 2021.
- Maharashtra has reported the highest number of deaths by suicide (22,207).
13. Kartik Aaryan-starrer ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2’ is getting a comic book adaptation
- Publisher Diamond Comics has partnered with the production houses T-Series and Cine1Studios to create this comic book for all young audiences.
- India’s iconic comic book distributor is known for creating famous characters such as Chacha Chaudhary, Motu Patlu, Billoo, and Pinki, among others.
- The epic comic book will be based on Aaryan’s character in the movie – Rooh Baba.
14. FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup 2022: VAR To Make Debut In Age-Group Showpiece In India
- The upcoming FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in India will see the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) technology making its debut in the age-group showpiece.
- The U-17 Women’s World Cup in India will be the third FIFA women’s tournament to utilise VAR following the U-20 Women’s World Cup Costa Rica 2022 and the FIFA Women’s World Cup France 2019.
15. LIC out of top 10 most valued firms, replaced by Bajaj Finance, Adani Transmission
- LIC lost its spot on the list of India’s 10 most valued companies by market capitalisation to Bajaj Finance and Adani Transmission.
- LIC now ranks eleventh.
- The top 10 most valued firms of India now are Reliance Industries, Tata Consultancy Services, HDFC Bank, Infosys, Hindustan Unilever, ICICI Bank, State Bank of India, HDFC, Bajaj Finance, and Adani Transmission.
- Bajaj Finance and Adani Transmission both have a market cap of Rs 4.4 trillion each.
16. Tata Motors completes acquisition of Marcopolo’s stake in Tata Marcopolo Motors
- Tata Motors and Brazil’s Marcopolo SA came together in 2006 to form a JV to manufacture low-floor air-conditioned and non air-conditioned buses in India.
- This JV was well known as Tata Motors Marcopolo Ltd. (TMML), in which Tata Motors had a 51 percent holding of the company and Marcopolo SA had 49 percent holding in the JV.
- From August 29th 2022 TMML has become a wholly-owned subsidiary of Tata Motors.
17. Indian Navy to get a new ensign; 4th change since 1950
- The Indian Navy will get a new ensign – the flag that is hoisted atop all Naval warships, ground stations and naval air bases.
- It was unveiled by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on September 2 when the first indigenous aircraft carrier Vikrant was commissioned at the Cochin Shipyard Limited Kochi, Kerala.
- The one adopted in 2014 is the current ensign of the Navy.
18. Cybercrime against women up 28% since 2019, Karnataka’s share highest: NCRB
- The number of cybercrime incidents in 2021 has gone up by 18.4% since 2019, but the number of such cases against women has risen at a significantly steeper 28%, data released by the National Crime Records Bureau showed.
- Karnataka had the highest share with 2,243 cases in 2021, followed by Maharashtra with 1,697, and Uttar Pradesh with 958 cases.
19. NCRB report says, crime against kids: a third still under POCSO
- The latest report released by the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) shows that 1,49,404 cases of crime against children were registered in 2021 of which 53,874 — 36.05 per cent — were under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO).
- The largest number of cases registered under POCSO in 2021 was in UP (7,129) followed by Maharashtra (6,200).
