1. Africa Cup Of Nations: Senegal Beat Egypt In Final Shoot-Out To Win Maiden Title

  • Senegal defeated Egypt in the Africa Cup of Nations championship winning the continental championship for the first time on penalty kicks.
  • The tournament was held at Olembe Stadium in Yaoundé, Cameroon.
  • Sadio Mane scored the winning spot-kick as Senegal claimed a first ever Africa Cup of Nations title with a 4-2 penalty shootout victory over seven-time winners Egypt.

2. Asian Development Bank lends record $ 4.6-bn loans to India in 2021

  • The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has provided a record USD 4.6 billion loans to India in 2021, including USD 1.8 billion towards coronavirus response.
  • The ADB’s regular funding programme to India is made to support transport, urban development, finance, agriculture, and skills building.
  • The agency extended USD 2.2-billion support for 12 state projects.

3. IISc commissions Param Pravega, one of the most powerful supercomputers in India

  • The Indian Institute of Science (IISc) has installed and commissioned Param Pravega, one of the most powerful supercomputers in India.
  • It is the largest in an Indian academic institution under the National Supercomputing Mission (NSM).
  • It has been designed by the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC).

4. Govt Plans To Make Fitness Testing Of Vehicles Through Automated Testing Stations Mandatory From 2023 Onwards

  • The government plans to make fitness testing of vehicles through Automated Testing Stations.
  • It will be mandatory in a phased manner starting from April next year.
  • The Road Transport and Highways Ministry said a draft notification has been issued for public comments regarding mandatory fitness testing of vehicles through an ATS.

5. S. R. Narasimhan takes additional charge as CMD POSOCO

  • State-run Power System Operation Corporation Ltd (POSOCO) said its system operation Director S. R. Narasimhan has taken additional charge of the post of chairman and managing director.
  • Narasimhan has a Bachelor Degree in Electrical Engineering and Master in Business Administration (MBA) in Finance.

6. Mumbai’s landmark Khadi Emporium, oldest such shop in country, banned from selling Khadi products

  • The nearly seven-decades-old ‘Khadi Emporium’ has been banned for selling fake Khadi products by the Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC).
  • The commission, which is under the Union Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, has adopted a “zero tolerance” policy against sale of spurious or non-Khadi products in recent years.

7. UN Environment Programme Signs MoU With Maharashtra Govt To Ensure Implementation of Climate Change Mitigation, Adaption

  • The UN Environment Programme (UNEP) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Maharashtra government to support its ‘Majhi Vasundhara’ campaign, an initiative about the energy and environmental dimensions of sustainable development. UNEP will support the state in educating, mobilising youth on plastic pollution & marine litter through UNEP’s Tide Turner Challenge

8. Dinesh Prasad Saklani, history professor at HNB Garhwal University, is the new NCERT director

  • Dinesh Prasad Saklani, a professor of history at the HNB Garhwal University, was appointed as the director of the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) for five years.
  • He succeeds Hrushikesh Senapaty, who finished his term over a year ago.
  • NCERT is an autonomous institution under the Ministry of Education (MoE).

9. Sonali Singh given charge of Controller General of Accounts

  • Centre has given the charge of the Controller General of Accounts (CGA), Department of Expenditure, Ministry of Finance to Sonali Singh, Additional Controller General of Accounts, after superannuation of Dipak Dash.
  • A 1987 batch officer of Indian Civil Accounts Service (ICAS), Singh had joined CGA as Additional Controller General of Accounts in October 2019.

10. A book named ‘Golden Boy Neeraj Chopra’ penned by Navdeep Gill has been released

  • A short biography of Tokyo Olympics-2021 Gold Medal winner Neeraj Chopra titled ‘Golden Boy Neeraj Chopra’ penned by sports author Navdeep Singh Gill was released recently.
  • The book has 72 pages and covers the life history and achievements of Neeraj Chopra right from his childhood to the Tokyo Olympics, in colour.
  • Neeraj Chopra has been nominated for Laureus World Sports Awards.

11. Veteran actor Ramesh Deo dies aged 93

  • Veteran actor Ramesh Deo, known for films like “Anand” and “Aap Ki Kasam” in Hindi cinema and his extensive work in the Marathi film industry, died on following a heart attack.
  • He was 93.
  • Ramesh Deo had featured in more than 250 Hindi films and nearly 200 Marathi movies in his career spanning 60 years.

12. SBI launches ‘Surya Shakti Cell’; partners with Tata Power for financing Solar projects

  • State Bank of India (SBI) has launched a dedicated centralized processing cell – ‘Surya Shakti Cell’.
  • The Bank has entered into an Agreement with Tata Power Solar Systems Ltd, a Tata Power Company, for financing solar projects.
  • Surya Shakti Cell will process all the loan applications for Solar Projects (capacity up to 1 MW) sourced from across India.
