1. Indian Air Force Day 2022

  • Indian Air Force (IAF) Day is celebrated on 8 October every year.
  • The main purpose of the day is to pay tribute to the Air Force of India and acknowledge their contribution, and excellence India has presented in the field.
  • The force has been a part of several important and landmark missions that have led to the success of the nation since 8 October 1932, when the Indian Air Force was founded.
  • Theme:
    • The theme for 2022 has not been announced yet.
    • But, last year’s (2021) theme was ‘Touch the Sky with Glory’.

2. RBI launches DAKSH – Reserve Bank’s Advanced Supervisory Monitoring System

  • Shri Shaktikanta Das, Governor, launched a new SupTech initiative named DAKSH – Reserve Bank’s Advanced Supervisory Monitoring System”, which is expected to make the Supervisory processes more robust.
  • About DAKSH:
    • DAKSH means ‘efficient’ & ‘competent’, reflecting the underlying capabilities of the application.
    • It is a web-based end-to-end workflow application.
    • Using this application RBI can monitor compliance requirements in a more focused manner, with the objective of further improving the compliance culture in Supervised Entities (SEs) like Banks, NBFCs, etc.

3. SEBI cancels certificate of registration granted to Brickwork Ratings

  • The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) cancelled the recognition certificate granted to Brickwork Ratings India, one of the seven registered credit rating agencies in the country, for ‘repeated lapses’ and irregularities in “discharging its duties”.
  • SEBI said Brickwork, which counts Canara Bank as its promoter, had failed to take corrective measures despite penal action.

4. French author Annie Ernaux wins 2022 Nobel Prize for Literature

  • The Nobel prize in literature has been awarded to French author Annie Ernaux, for the courage and clinical acuity with which she uncovers the roots, estrangements and collective restraints of personal memory.

    • Last year’s Nobel literature prize went to the Tanzanian-born, UK-based writer Abdulrazak Gurnah.

5. 56 mn Indians may have turned poor in 2020 due to pandemic: World Bank

  • The World Bank in its latest “Poverty and Shared Prosperity” made fresh estimates of poverty using a new extreme poverty line based on the purchasing power parity (PPP) of $2.15, the earlier one being at $1.9.About 56 million Indians may have plunged into extreme poverty in 2020 as a result of the pandemic, increasing the global tally by 71 million.

6. India, New Zealand navies sign pact on White Shipping Information Exchange

  • The Indian Navy signed an agreement on White Shipping Information Exchange with the Royal New Zealand Navy to promote greater transparency in the Maritime Domain, the Ministry of Defence.
  • White shipping information refers to exchange of relevant advance information on the identity and movement of commercial non-military merchant vessels.

7. HDFC Life launches Insure India Campaign

8. Google to build its first cloud region in Greece

  • Alphabet Inc’s Google will set up its first cloud region in Greece, giving a boost to the country’s efforts to become a world cloud computing hub.

  • Google’s investment comes two years after Microsoft Corp. decided to build a data centre hub in the country.

9. No charge for RuPay credit card use on UPI for transaction up to ₹2,000: NPCI

  • Acquirers shall categorize Small Offline Merchant as per the RBI circular dated December 6, 2017.
  • Nil MDR (no interchange, PSP & app provider charges) shall apply for this category up to the transaction amount less than and equal to Rs 2,000,” a circular issued by NPCI, which operates UPI, said.
  • However, UPI, along with RuPay debit cards, do not attract any charges.

10. India emerges as world’s largest producer & consumer of Sugar

  • India has emerged as the world’s largest producer and second largest exporter of sugar.
  • A record amount of sugarcane—more than 5000 Lakh Metric Tons (LMT)—was produced in the nation during the sugar season Oct. to Sep. (2021–22).
  • Out of this, 35 lakh metric ton sugar was diverted to ethanol production and 359 lakh metric ton of sugar was produced by sugar mills.

11. PM Narendra Modi lays foundation stone of Rs 350 cr Medical Device Park in Nalagarh, Himachal Pradesh

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone of the Medical Device Park at Nalagarh in Himachal Pradesh on October 5, 2022, which will be built at a cost of about Rs 350 crore.
  • During his one-day visit to the northern hilly state, the PM inaugurated and laid the foundation stone of projects worth over Rs 3650 crore.

  • Savita Punia, the captain of the Indian women’s hockey team, and veteran goalkeeper PR Sreejesh both received the FIH goalkeeper of the year title in the men’s and women’s categories.
  • The third individual to receive the FIH Goalkeeper of the Year title twice is Sreejesh.
  • Sreejesh also reached 250 international appearances during the course of the season.

  • President Joe Biden has nominated US Surgeon General Dr. Vivek Murthy to serve as the country’s representative on the executive board of the World Health Organization.
  • He was confirmed by the US Senate in March 2021 to serve as the 21st Surgeon General of the country.
  • He previously served as the 19th Surgeon General under President Barack Obama.

14. FinMin allows airlines to avail up to Rs 1,500 crore loan under ECLGS

  • The Union Finance Ministry on Wednesday allowed airlines to avail of up to Rs 1,500 crore loan under the Emergency Credit Line Guarantee Scheme (ECLGS), to help them tide over their cash flow problems.
  • Earlier, an airline could avail of a loan of not more than Rs 400 crore under the ECLGS.

    • It was introduced as a part of the Government of India’s COVID-19 financial relief package.
    • Under this scheme, financial institutions in India provide emergency loan facilities to various companies and MSMEs that have suffered during this pandemic.

15. First green tech based incubation centre of India to come up at NIT Srinagar

  • Technology Business Incubation or Inclusive TBI (i-TBI) is a three-year initiative supported by the Department of Science and Technology (DST) for educational institutions, idea-generators, innovators and entrepreneurs to support the innovative ideas, startup initiatives and promote self-employment and job creation through incubation.
