1. Economist Bibek Debroy appointed Chancellor of Pune’s Deccan College

• Economist and author Bibek Debroy has been appointed as the Chancellor of Pune’s Deccan College Post Graduate and Research Institute.
• Debroy, who is presently the chairman of the Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister (EAC-PM), will succeed well-known archaeologist AP Jamkhedkar.
• Deccan College Post Graduate and Research Institute is the third oldest in the country.

2. 61st edition of Subroto Cup International Football Tournament begins after gap of two years

• The 61st edition of the Subroto Cup International Football Tournament began after a gap of two years, at the BR Ambedkar Stadium in Delhi marking the start of the most prestigious football tournament for schools all over the country.
• The tournament is organised by the Subroto Mukherjee Sports Education Society (SMSES) along with the Indian Air Force.

4. Sanjay Verma appointed next high commissioner to Canada

• Senior diplomat Sanjay Kumar Verma has been appointed as India’s next high commissioner to Canada.
• In a statement, the Ministry of External Affairs said Verma is a 1988 batch officer of the Indian Foreign Service and is currently the ambassador of India to Japan.

5. Mahesh V Iyer takes over as the chairman of Mahanagar Gas Ltd

• Mahesh Vishwanathan Iyer has been named the new chairman of Mahanagar Gas Limited (MGL), a state-run city gas provider.
• Iyer is the chairperson of Konkan LNG Limited and Central U.P. Gas Limited in addition to holding a directorship in ONGC Tripura Power Company Limited.
• MGL is an enterprise of GAIL Limited and Government of Maharashtra.

6. Tripura Government sets up five bio villages incorporated with renewable energy; Six In Queue

• Heritage Telangana has listed Niluvurallu in Mudumal village of Narayanpet district and Chaya Someshwaralayam as the sites that deserve due recognition.

8. Suresh Raina retires from all forms of Cricket

• Former India cricketer Suresh Raina has announced his retirement from all forms of Cricket.

• Mary Elizabeth Truss, prominently referred to as Liz Truss was announced as the next prime minister of the United Kingdom (UK), after she defeated rival Rishi Sunak in the Conservative Party leadership race.
• Truss, 47, had emerged as a contender for the prime ministerial role after her predecessor Boris Johnson agreed to step down.

10. Indian GM Aravindh Chithambaram wins Dubai Open chess tournament

• Grandmaster Aravindh Chithambaram emerged champion in the 22nd Dubai Open chess tournament on Sunday, with 7.5 points as seven Indians finished in the top 10.
• This is sixth overall, fifth individual triumph of the year out of the eight tournaments he played.
• The last tournament he played was over 1.5 months ago which he won at 41st Benasque Open 2022.

11. HAL-L&T consortium bags Rs 860 Crore ISRO contract for five PSLV

• HAL-L&T consortium bagged an Rs 860 crore contract for the end-to-end realisation of five Polar Satellite Launch Vehicles (PSLV) over a period of four years from the NewsSpace India Limited (NSIL).
• The contract was exchanged today between HAL and NSIL during the inaugural session of the 7th Bengaluru Space Expo 2022 at the Bangalore International Exhibition Centre (BIEC).

12. HDFC Bank, Precision Biometric selected by RBI for test phase under Regulatory Sandbox

• The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) said two entities – namely HDFC Bank (in partnership with Swedish firm Crunchfish AB) and Precision Biometric India Private Ltd. – have been selected for the ‘test phase’ of the ‘On Tap’ application facility for the theme ‘Retail Payments’ under regulatory Sandbox.

13. Indian Army Chief Manoj Pande conferred honorary rank of Nepal Army General

15. New Delhi’s Rajpath and Central Vista lawns to be renamed as ‘Kartavya Path’

• The government has decided to rename the historic Rajpath and Central Vista lawns in the national capital as ‘Kartavya Path’.
• Rajpath was known as Kingsway during British Rule.
• Earlier, the name of the road on which PM’s residence is located was changed from Race Course Road to Lok Kalyan Marg.
